The Weeknd - Kiss Land
95

this album takes upon the darkness of trilogy and infuses it with slightly poppier elements in such a seamless and impeccable manner.

also fuck live for, that song did NOT have to be there
Odd look is abel's best bonus track ever (or maybe tied with twenty eight idk)

this album's helped me throughout the course of my life when i first started covering music, i just don't know how to explain it. the melancholic elements of this album like odd look and tears in the rain, as well ... read more

The Weeknd - Echoes Of Silence

i swear, my second favorite weeknd album switches every day (#1 always kissland <3)

just revisited this again... and it has no misses... except for maybe same old song. that's it.

the run that he had up until initiation was insane ngl. i'm a little indifferent toward the fall and next.

but echoes of silence... just a fucking mood.

The Weeknd - Thursday

Doesn't stack up against the other two parts of trilogy, but if i'm being honest, the birds pt 1 is probably top 3 off trilogy...

House of balloons is revolutionary. The production and vocals were something truly unique in its time, and it's easy to see how impactful this album was in the moody r&b landscape. I like contrasting this album to channel orange, both amazing r&b projects that came out.
If we're counting bonus tracks, twenty eight is my favorite off this mixtape.

Charli xcx - BRAT

epitome of club music.

100 -> 96

10/18: 96 -> 91

11/12: 91 -> 86
yeah i kinda come back to this less and less 😐

Porter Robinson - Worlds
95

one of the most monumental and influential EDM records of the 2010's, with a considerably large crop of enjoyable tracks

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D

this album to me felt very personal, and at the same time, kind of unhinged with a “I don’t care” attitude. This album did have some moments where it felt like a generic pop record, but there were many moments that I enjoyed a ton.

after my initial review, i want to add a few more points. I feel like the thematic aspects of this album was very straightforward, which provided for a more cohesive listen. The slower cuts on this album are a welcome change of pace, but I feel ... read more

"i've never seen a top 3 with any of those songs before, but they're all so valid"
On peachxoxopeach's review of Magdalena Bay - Second Sleep / Star Eyes
"@peachxoxo I could see that. but at the same time, like, it’s very hard to be original. people before you have already talked about all the things you wanted to talk about, so what else are you supposed to really say about the music without coming off as pretentious. not much, really."

On Yellowslotcar's review of Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me
"@Yellowslotcar huge respect for putting your opinion out. i do agree with many points you make about this work but i see this made not only for therapeutic relief for phil, but to also to help others that are overcoming death (which, of course, is the primary reason for it's critical acclaim and widespread praise. kind of similar to what ofelectricheat said). not to generate revenue. he's been making music ever since like the late 90's, so profit was probably (hopefully) not an incentive for him while releasing this to the world."

On JC99's review of Madvillain - Madvillainy
"as an abstract hip hop album, there really is no narrative. it's a snapshot of many different ideas into an amalgation of an album. there is no definitive or unifying factor that ties this album together. as for the lyricism, i'm not sure if you paid attention to the whole thing. sure, some songs touch upon common ground for many topics adjacent to many other hip hop records. i'll give you that. but saying that the wordplay and lyricism is average? come on. if you search up any video highlighting all his rhyme schemes on any song, you would see how insane they really are. plus there are so many witty one-liners i admire that you formed ur own opinion tho. it took me a full year of listening to this thing on and off to fully get it"
