Yes, I'm not a fan of this album either, but FUCK YOU, PITCHFORK!!!
Listening to this after listening to Washing Machine hoping it's gonna grow on me like WM but nope, still same as the first listen. I'm just not a fan of the pacing still a good album tho.

*A greatness. The Diamond Sea is a sprawling epic that showcases Sonic Youth at the height of their creative powers. And as usual they push the boundaries of what rock music can be in this record, incorporating elements of avant-garde and experimentalism into their sonic palette.
For me, this is a great debut record. From the beginning, they're showing us their innovative spirit and their willingness to push boundaries in the rock music scene. That's why they're one of my favourite bands of all time.
"EVOL" stands as a testament to Sonic Youth's fearless exploration of noise and melody, forging a sonic tapestry that continues to inspire and challenge listeners decades after its release."

Just like any other of their records, this record expansive and rich instrumentation. Most of the tracks in this shifts from delicate moments to intense and explosive, and as usual, the cinematic quality is unmistakable, it's dramatic.
It has more interesting stuff happening in this than the last one. Overall, a great record.
Love the dynamics, love the arrangements, love the instrumentations, it just doesn't hit the same highs as some of their earlier stuff.
"1,000,000 Died to Make This Sound," GOD DAMN!
A really interesting album that mixes post-rock and orchestra elements with raw vocals at the front.
Complex, experimental, and rich instrumentation.
Now we're back with post-rock blending elements of massive cinematic orchestral arrangements. That's why this record has rich instrumentation and expansive sounds. What an amazing album, this is so underrated.
An epic, beautiful orchestral arrangements. The use of orchestral instruments in this record makes some parts of the album sound really big and impressive and delivers a cinematic atmosphere that is so beautiful. I love the way most of the tracks on this album start off calm, quiet, and melancholic and slowly build up to the most expansive sounds.
Oh God... atmospheric, quite haunting, beautiful, evocative, and cinematic record. It has amazing layered instrumentation, it's minimalist yet so rich at the same time. I think the greatness of this record is that it delivers emotion in each track, even in each instrument. I listened to this in my room, door and window's locked, lights' off, and God... this record deeply contemplative and introspective, I teared up a little.
Underrated. Blending accessible sound, noise, and some experimentation makes this record so interesting.
Their non experimental piece. This record is way more straighforward, still interesting to listen to but to me, the band reach their highest quality when they do the abrasive, noisy, experimental, chaotic, dissonant stuff.
This is just like the last album but way more dark, experimental, and avant-garde.
