Yeah, I'm sorry, this wasn't very interesting at all, especially for having such a high critic score. However, I was sweating my balls off on Genji though while listening to this album, so I was pretty preoccupied and not focused on the music. I'll listen again at some point in the future and my score will probably be raised, but for now, it's a pretty meh to good 77.
Y'all don't even give this shit a proper chance anymore. If you go into a record with a pessimistic attitude then the whole record will undoubtedly suck--confirmation bias and all that.
People criticize this song on its beat, I think it's perfect though, MAVI unrelentingly drops bar after bar with little to no stops while the beat reflects the tense, anxious vibe of MAVI's lyrics. This song is perfect to me, I never get sick of MAVI's mesmerizing flows and profound lyrics.
Ill Conscious definitely comes off as preachy at times, but when you're listening to a guy with Conscious in his name, I mean, what do you expect? Even with its flaws, I enjoyed this album a lot. He reminds me a lot of Joey Bada$$. The Boom Bap, East Coast street atmosphere you get from this album luckily makes the preachy-ness more bearable to sit through, and his clever wordplay/rhyme schemes show that is in fact a skilled lyricist and rapper. Additionally, I personally enjoy conscious ... read more
Doesn't sound at all like something Peggy would put out today, so it's fun to see how much he has developed over the years. This was quite a nice listen, great sampling.
Kill yourself or get over it!
Oh yeah, this is my type of music motherfuckers!!!!!! Sarah Nixey has such a beautiful voice, especially for this gothic, dark, gloomy art pop style of music that makes it so atmospheric and unique. I originally had only heard Child Psychology, and from how much I loved that song, I decided to listen to the full album.... and I'm thankful I did! Dope album cover as well. Only song I didn't really like was Uptown Top Ranking, but all the rest were ... read more
Lol, you dorks, just enjoy the Christmas music.
Lacking. While I enjoyed "The Arc," I found the rest of the album underwhelming. It lacked something that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I couldn't connect with many of the songs, so the album was a bit of a bore. I've no doubt that once I hear it again, I'll up my score, but for now, 71 is what I'm feelin.
Heartless & Zeltron 6 Billion kinda stink but the first three tracks were great, I like Zel when he's doing more of a trap metal style.
The instrumentals on here are nothing less than incredible, beats like ALLIGATOR and RUN are absolutely great, but unfortunately Tommy Richman and his grating voice butcher the beats.
"Y'all can't see me like y'all Chinese."
YG & DJ Mustard's collaborative album was low quality and very one-dimensional. Around halfway through the album, I thought to myself, "Wait, haven't I heard this song before?" Horny lyrics over low-quality beats gets quite tiring after a while. Not many of the songs on this tracklist stood out to me, except maybe the Mac Miller feature. The whole album was basically good enough to where I wouldn't ... read more
He most definitely needs to work on his delivery, and the production is very mediocre at times. But jesus, his lyrics are just incredible. I don't know how much more his lyricism can even improve, it's incredible. I also love his jazzy sound in general, but this is definitely a step down from Who Taught You To Hate Yourself?
Hate to copy the User Score, but this album is exactly an 87 for me. No higher, no less. While I did find myself getting slightly bored at the lack of variation throughout the album, I still thoroughly enjoyed tracks like Flume & For Emma. It is just a beautiful sounding album in every way, poetic too.
Edit 1: 87 > 80
Not as good as High Violet or Boxer, but I still enjoyed it. It just didn't feel very consistent, but I still love The National with all my heart. I originally gave this a 56, and I realize now that I was just in a bad mood that day, this is great. I find myself having trouble connecting with a lot of the songs, an issue I didn't feel at all for their previous albums.
Mike G carried the hell out of this album. And good lord, Tyler, The Creator STINKS. Every song that came on with him on it, I just told myself, "Ah, here we go again, some more monotone rape bars." Dude is unbearable, he singlehandedly dropped my score from a low 70 to a high 40. Many other people on this album sucked as well though, I just felt Tyler, The Creator stood out as being especially repulsive.
25? Y'all crazy. Granted, Go2work sucks but Nobody is so good, what are y'all on?
"Whoever said time is money musta seen my watch"
Decent album, some good bars and good tracks, but overall it was suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper long and hard to get through.
