this was an okay album but why is that cover so clean
they had no idea what they were gonna do with their next album
the calm before the infamous storm
It's honestly really cute to hear Mobb Deep's sound as the livelier, more upbeat early 90's boom bap scene. This feels like Bruce Wayne before his parents died, before all the shadows and bloody knuckles. The change was needed tho, as MD in this style doesn't do enough to stand out among the competition in 93. Still a solid listen tho if you rate this less then a 6 then admit you don't like hip hop and move on.
Mobb Deep's debut is, in a word- rough. Havoc's production has flashes of brilliance with some decent, barreling beats at times, but on the whole sounds pretty underbaked, and the bars here don't fare much differently. Still, there's an inherent charm present here that I enjoyed throughout the record- it's clear the group were on the verge of a masterpiece
It's not bad at all for a debut album by a duo who would go on to make one of the best rap albums ever made after this.
This certainly was an enjoyable listen and it was interesting to hear how they sounded before The Infamous as there is a noticeable difference between this and their other works.
Great album cover also.
