Kendrick follows the line that Denzel Curry took earlier this year--transitioning from his critically acclaimed conscious, jazz rap structure to a more trap-based album that takes from his hometown roots. Though, this is much more disappointing.
I mean, listen, no one can undermine Kendrick's achievements in rap, activism, and music as a whole, but this god complex and arrogant attitude he's shown in the past year is getting quite infuriating to listen to. I find that I have such ... read more
I am only rating this based on its added songs; I already rated the original album a 95, so I felt like this didn't live up to the original tracklist but it still was nice, and I enjoyed the slower, chill songs he experimented with. ACT A DAMN FOOL was really fun to listen to, I know for many that Duke Deuce trans bar was the highlight of the album, and I agree.
I love this album because it gave Zel the freedom to showcase his technical skills: his incredible flows, his punchlines, his ... read more
I just couldn't connect with many of the songs. Once I listen to it again eventually, I may enjoy it more.
Vanilla and Hypoxia are some of my favorite finds this year. Also, the album cover is amazing. WOOHOO FLIPTURN!!!
Worldstarhiphop.com! WhooKid! Hood rich!
I can't take it anymore.
This was top 3 worst hip-hop albums I have ever heard. I have 7,781 liked songs on Spotify, so my bar for adding songs to my "Liked Songs" playlist is very low, if I don't actively dislike what I am hearing, I will add the song. Not a single song on this album made it to my Liked Songs. Somehow, the Intro was the most enjoyable moment for me. I don't even care that this guy is white, his voice is awful, his lyrics are uninspired at best, the instrumentals and production were ... read more
Terron Armstead needs to rap more, lmao. Guy was really good.
Raw, mellow rhymes, I really enjoyed this. Vivian at the Art Basel almost put me to sleep, but in a good way, perhaps "relaxed" is a better word. Great project though, AYO AYO! DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT
They done put Pop Smoke on Latin Pop beats, hahahah
Half of this album just sounded like one really, really, really, long song. The production was interesting but most definitely needed more diversity. The distinct amount of cheesy lyrics really made this album more of a slog to get through. Enjoyed some of the songs, enjoyed the experimenting. What is it with white rappers always trying to rap super fast?
REASON has a lot of potential, this album has incredible storytelling, he just needs to work on his delivery; the repetitive choruses got old quickly and his flow could have been improved. Regardless, Colored Dreams / Killers Pt. 2 is one of the most tragic and sad hip-hop tracks I have ever heard. Almost made me cry thinking about my momma. I understand the criticism with this album, and I did find myself becoming bored at times, especially the beginning. This was an overall delightful debut ... read more
Gorilla Glue made me think this was going to be a decent DaBaby album. Then after 15 minutes of the same flow, hollow lyrics, monotone voice, boring instrumentals, I was just waiting patiently for this thing to end. A 25 minute album has never felt so long. The front end of this album was certainly stronger, though. 25/100.
I used to love this album a few years ago, but after maturing my taste and delving more into the rap genre, I am not impressed with this album. It doesn't necessarily stand out. One of my biggest pet peeves with a hip-hop album is when they place a personal, conscious rap song directly next to an energetic, albeit lyrically hollow track. This happened twice on this album with 'Link Up' going into 'Always Win' and then 'Hard Times' into 'Right Now.' ... read more
I gave the original album an 100, but I am rating this "Expanded Edition" purely based on the new tracks added. The additional tracks were much weaker than all of the original songs, but that isn't to say I still didn't enjoy the alternate versions and live recordings. 76/100.
Very weak towards the end, but tracks 1-8 are some dope little trap songs. Great instrumentals throughout.
