Not Hayley Williams (the goat btw) just causally and quietly releasing an indie rock/trip hop project over here.
Seriously, this is some FIRE shit here, with Hayley's vocals just blending so well with the low-key sounds of trip hop.
Jazz rap is hella sexy, but this was just okay for me. The rapping was just kind of boring? I don't know I feel like underground projects like "Egotrip" from last year had a lot more energy by tapping into that neo-soul and chipmunk soul sound. Overall great but like there could've been more.
HOWEVER THOSE LAST TWO TRACKS THEY LOCKED TF IN HOLY FUCK. AND FUCK ICE.
AJR DEEP DISCOG DIVE 6/6
You know what no one's thinking? AJR making a good project. The folk elements are actually pretty good and remind me of Lizzy McAlpine and Noah Kahan. Lyrically, the brothers are no where NEAR the level of Lizzy or Noah, but it's definitely some of their best. I don't want to spoil this too much because people should check this out because it's genuinely good.
AJR DEEP DISCOG DIVE 5/6
Huh, AJR can make good music! "The Maybe Man" is definitely their best studio album with some overall decent lyrics and production. They finally ditch the annoying electropop sound for a softer, more centered indie pop sound. Is it great, no but it's consistently decent which is better than being consistently ass or decent here and there. "The Dumb Song", "God is Really Real", "Maybe Man", and "2085" were all good ... read more
AJR DEEP DISCOG DIVE 4/6
NOT HORRIBLE?? Okay the lyrics are still cringe and the production is still really over the top, but in all honesty it's far less ass than their previous projects so far. The songwriting is just SO bad like there are some songs in here that aren't horrible, but it just gets weighed down by the songwriting. Despite this, songs like the last three songs are lowkey not bad, and are fun tracks with some decent lyrics. "OK ORCHESTRA" is so inconsistent, ... read more
AJR DEEP DISCOG DIVE 3/6
"Now our song plays in the produce aisle..." well they got that right!
Seriously did these guys skip all their songwriting classes because it's so bad. The singing is not horrible but they always sound like they're trying too hard, both vocally and production wise. That leaves this album with this overly produced sound that's annoying. Like tone it down. I do think there are some decent songs here; "Karma" is probably one of my ... read more
AJR DEEP DISCOG DIVE 2/6
I sometimes ask myself, is AJR's music ACTUALLY that bad or is just dogpiling? Well, yeah the hate is valid, this is really bad LMAO. However, I do think there's some merit to be given in the beginning of this record. "Overture" and "Sober Up (feat. Rivers Cuomo)" are lowkey not horrible, with the latter actually being fairly listenable. The rest of the record, though? Bad and is so overproduced. The lyrical direction of this album is so ... read more
Ellie Goulding takes pop music for a spin in "Halcyon", a unique pop project that vocally sounds basic but with some EDM and electropop based production.
When I saw Justin Timberlake had a must hear, I laughed, but then saw "SexyBack" and it all made sense. Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds" is a great album that shows the true potential of slick, solo lyricism. Honestly a great pop album, and definitely worth that must hear tag.
Okay maybe K-pop isn't dead! NMIXX's "Heavy Serenade" is a vibey EP with some great production. K-pop usually has over the top production but this lowkey works. It's nice and definitely deserves its flowers, but K-pop is so overrun by slop (cough BTS) that I fear that this project will be forgotten in time. I'm glad that AOTY is giving it the attention it deserves (seriously, if this keeps the score, it'll be the number 1 rated K-pop project of all time!)
Picture this: it’s the summer of 2015 and you meet someone cute. You talk, laugh, and finally fall in love with them. Those feelings you felt is “E•MO•TION” by Carly Rae Jepsen in a nutshell. This is the single greatest pop album of all time. It’s a love letter to 1980s pop while keeping the sounds of the early to mid 2010s alive. It’s a masterclass project full of romantic passion and energy.
Album openers are super important, and “Run Away With ... read more
Getting older does not always mean your music gets worse!
Let's take a look at Madonna's 2005 album, "Confessions on a Dance Floor" for example. She was 47 (she's now 67 years old!) when she released this album, and although 47 isn't necessarily old, she wasn't the young, 26 year old when "Material Girl" came out in 1984. Despite this, she's still able to capture the essence of her youth and create an amazing nu-disco/dance-pop record. ... read more
Parliament's "Mothership Connection" is bold and sexy. There's some amazing P-funk sounds here with some really groovy basslines. Great stuff here with some vibrant, funky and playful sounds throughout.
Cute, pleasant vocals? β
Dreamy production? β
Happy lyrics? β
"No Dogs Allowed" by Sidney Gish is a super underrated bedroom pop project that doesn't do anything crazy, but keeps the cute, dreamy aesthetic that bedroom pop is known for. The twee pop elements bring out nostalgia and are found in her vocals and instrumentals. Great project overall, definitely made me happier!
This shit is so fucking fire holy...
Yeat's 2025 EP brings some of the most energetic sounds to the table and less of the industrial elements of his 2024 releases. Although I really enjoyed that sound, this is so much better.
Sometimes we just need a fun, carefree album and Young Thug delivers that in "JEFFREY". Thugger brings some upbeat and sexual lyrics here but the vocals were definitely interesting. They weren't my favorite but they had a nice flow to them. Overall a decent mixtape.
DaBaby's debut is a nothingburger of an album that has some decent trap songs. "Suge" and "Joggers" were lowkey really good with "Pony" and "Goin Baby" being decently good. However, there are some HORRIBLE songs here. "Best Friend" fucking SUCKS so much ass it's not even funny. Overall a pretty fun debut with some decent songs but some shit that's actually bringing the entire project down.
After J Dilla's unfortunate passing in February of 2006, how would his estate handle his unfinished album, "The Shining"? Well, for posthumous albums, this is pretty decent. It's not perfect, with the middle of the album being a perfect example of that. The beginning of the album brings in more boom bap/jazz rap elements with Pharoahe Monch and Common and these tracks are magical. Overall not a horrible posthumous release but it was going to be insanely difficult to top his ... read more
Is Roddy Ricch actually talented or was he lucky with "The Box"? Well shit, this was actually pretty good! Roddy has a nice voice (seriously I was pretty impressed) and songwriting skills here to prove he was worth something at some point. Unfortunately, this is his ONLY good project besides the occasional track here and there. Overall pretty good debut.
