When it comes to good emo rock music, Title Fight is always there to save the day. "Floral Green" is a very punchy with heavier shoegaze elements really pushing this album to new heights.
Title Fight's debut is a fucking fire album of emo and post-hardcore sounds. It's honestly a well crafted record that doesn't really push the hardcore scene all too much but despite that, it still slaps so much. The vocals are just awesome and those guitars are heavy but keep that upbeat punk sound.
Among Us is EVERYWHERE, even in my AOTY.
Okay dead memes aside this is a fire record. First of all fuck you for not making it easily available on streaming (π‘), but second of all whatever this is; it's fire. I love the hardcore punk sound mixed with the nice spooky lyrics. Overall pretty decent and I enjoyed the lyrics more than I expected.
79/100
Gracie's softer, more indie pop sides from "minor" is back in full swing for this lead single. I am a bit concerned that there's only 1 explicit track in the entire album. I liked the vocals here but the lyrics were fairly boring in all honesty and were really repetitive.
Some of the most insane lyrics of the hardcore punk scene.
Suicidal Tendencies' self titled is an insanely energetic debut that pushes hardcore punk to the most aggressive corners, but not pushing it too far that it strays into metalcore or pigfuck. Production is good and overall a great record that's super fun to listen to for the lyrics and the instrumentals.
Also why do they have like 50 billion former members what happened I'm so curious π
These guys used the clickbait arrow before it was cool!
Big Black's debut album "Atomizer" just turned 40 years old, and it's a perfectly hardcore, angry, and just fucking fire. The lyrics are definitely great here, being aggressive but the true standout is the production. Pigfuck is a rare genre not really seen too much but the more noisy elements combined with hardcore punk are great. It gives this record a raw, more manic sound to it.
They grow up so fast! π₯Ή
The debut album of hardcore punk group Descendents is a short, powerful project that is definitely a classic in its own right. However, the production is a bit eh which I can let slide being a debut, however the tracks are SO short, and although I try to be impartial with shorter songs like this, I feel like they could've done a lot more with slightly longer tracks. Literally a minute-thirty is all they really need and it shows in the longer-ish tracks like in ... read more
What’s better than synthpop Sarah Kinsley? PIANO ROCK SARAH KINSLEY!
Sarah Kinsley’s “Fleeting” is one of my favorite releases of the year and this reissue ramps up the emotional impact of each track by replacing all the instrumentals with pianos. It’s such a minor change, but it drastically changes the tone of every track. Instead of being upbeat, these tracks are solemn and softhearted. It’s a great contrast and idea that’s been done before, however ... read more
As summer is starting, we have "Timely!!" by Anri. This album is a Japanese city pop classic, with loads beach vibes all around. Even if you've never heard of "Timely!!", this album is a trip down memory lane.
The instrumentals on this album are fantastic. The jazzy saxophones and brass combining with the synths elevate this album and remind me of a summer road trip to the beach. Take "WINDY SUMMER" for example. A perfect blend of brass, synths and elegant ... read more
Honestly Minor Threat has a great discography, with some of the most influential hardcore punk sounds of all time, spawning hundreds of subgenres and classic albums. I definitely think their sound doesn't get better than their self titled, but overall a great set of songs that's super short and easy to listen and get down to.
What happened to the hardcore punk?? This is just fine, definitely a HUGE step down for Minor Threat but they were broken up for over 2 years at that point but these recordings are just fairly barren of the spirit they had in their previous tracks. At least the title track slaps.
"Out of Step" is a rebellious EP that finally pushes Minor Threat past 10 minutes! No, but really, this is a great EP that keeps the songs short but FULL of energy and anger. There's not a single missed moment here.
When it comes to the "First Two Seven Inches", I definitely think that their self titled is better. It's not perfect by any means and I think there should've been more but I wont discredit how influential these two EPs are.
Minor Threat's 2nd EP is even shorter than their first, and is pack with decently crafted hardcore punk tracks, nothing really notable outside of the first track, though.
FUCKING FIREEEEE!!! What a great way to start my hardcore punk genre dive.
Dead Kennedys' "Plastic Surgery Disasters" is a great hardcore punk record that is SO FUCKING GOOD. The lyrics are sparky, and political that fit perfectly with the raw energetic vocals. It's just a great record that got my heart racing!
The day that Jane Remover makes shit music is the day God dies, because this is peak.
I swear to God leroy is just an excuse for Jane Remover to flex her music taste because there was some crazy ass samples I would've never expected. Bryan Garris from Knocked Loose, Tate McRae, Olivia Rodrigo, Drake, Carly Rae Jepsen and more were used to create this amazing surprise album. Production is off the charts as per usual, great stuff.
Arabic downtempo and dream pop mixed with some shoegaze... interesting but cool!
Kiss Facility's debut album is a nice calming release with some really unique production and vocals. Mayah Alkhateri's vocals are heavenly and her singing in Arabic is a great touch. Reminds me a lot of Faye Wong and yeule. Overall great but definitely could've appreciated more trip hop and shoegaze elements.
"teenage genius 3" is another one of those 10 minute EPs, which is kind of funny that it's happened now three times (Earl and LIM), but regardless, this was definitely my least favorite of the three. I think that this has some areas where it shines, but the inconsistency was my biggest issue here. I would've loved to see the segments flow and transition into each other, but this felt like three separate songs. Overall still good and I'm fairly excited for his mixtape.
When I saw those tags I knew I was in for a wild ride, and Angine de Poitrine's "Vol.II" is certainly that.
An instrumental album that's rated highly always gets me happy and well, I'll hop on the bandwagon to say this album slaps. It's chaotic, but also keeps a lot of structure despite having some wacky ass time signatures.
Finally catching up on some 2026 releases...
Hardcore synth group Lip Critic pumps out an energetic project that pushes the genre of both synth punk and digital hardcore. Definitely the production was the highlight here, it was genuinely bonkers in some areas. Overall really great, was very impressed with how insane this record got.
