b-sides > a-sides anyone?
This is the sister EP to "a-sides" by Adrianne Lenker and Buck Meek, but this is JUST Adrianne's vocals and as I said in my review for "a-sides", her vocals just trump anyone else's. It's soft, warm, and poignant.
When it comes down to it, "a-sides" by Adrianne Lenker and future Big Thief member Buck Meek is decent indie folk, but lacks that soulful melancholic energy that Adrianne brings to her studio albums. I think it's the production, it's just not very good. Lyrically this is good and the instrumentals use an electric guitar which is definitely not my favorite and doesn't add anything positive to the production. Buck is fine vocally, but I will always prefer Adrianne's ... read more
ReVe is just so good, classic and no nonsense K-pop. This "deluxe" isn't necessary, but definitely welcome to hear more great songs from the group.
Whenever I listen to this album I feel like the chillest motherfucker on planet Earth.
Tame Impala's magnum opus is an album for the history books. It's trippy, melodic, and full of well produced psychedelic songs. The vocals are longing and melancholic, but have this lush tone to them that add a sense of hope and love. The production is just amazing, with the synthesizers being on point and so trippy. I've been a fan of Djo's music for a couple of years now, and stepping ... read more
A classic.
Paul McCartney is about to drop his 22nd studio album (jesus) next week, and I decided to tap into his solo projects. "Ram" is a goofy, quirky and flavorful folk pop album with tons of fun production. Considering this was released right after The Beatles disbanding, this is a great album.
LE SSERAFIM had some serious potential to be the next big K-girl group, but this is just disappointing. I feel like I have to talk about "BOOMPALA" which samples the "Macerena" and just slaughters the fuck out of the song. It's horrible and some of the worst excuses for a sample I've ever heard. There's nothing much I can say besides that LE SSERAFIM has half the soul they used to have.
There are some good songs here though, "iffy iffy" and ... read more
The newest installment of English pop star Maisie Peters shows her venturing into the folk pop and indie pop scenes. Maisie’s step into folk pop is very Noah Kahan-esque, with strong vocals and a primary focus on lyrics. Like Noah, her lyrics hit hard, with tracks like “Houses”, “Vampire Time”, and “Questions” being some of the best here. Her pop sound in “The Good Witch” is still present for sure, but the excited, upbeat sounds that we ... read more
Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers return with their fifth studio album, “everyone for ten minutes” and I’ll admit that it’s not as bad as their last album, but it’s still a basic indie pop rock project that doens’t really make any splashes or impacts. The singles from this album 100% carry the hell out of this album, and the lyricism is just mediocre throughout. It does feel like Bleachers kind of tapped into an alt-country rock sound but it doesn’t ... read more
If we thought “drop dead” was amazing, well we were SO WRONG. It looks like Olivia Rodrigo was saving her best for later, because her latest single, “the cure” is genuinely one of Olivia’s best songs of her entire discography. The lyricism is just fantastic, with her struggling and internally battling with herself on her self-worth and paranoia. The chorus is just so well written, with her understanding that her lover is trying to help her figuratively suck the ... read more
Nice and trippy cloud rap. "Baklava" was just amazing, super dreamy and atmospheric.
I'm getting ready to listen to fakemink's new record and I finally decided to tap into his debut, "London's Saviour". This is a great album just in its lyrics alone. It's conscious and introspective, discussing loneliness and emotional vulnerability with chill, ethereal sounds that even sample Imogen Heap. The production is amazing and has this heavy yet dreamy sound that incorporates elements of chillwave. Overall a beautiful debut that takes on a lot in only 21 ... read more
Honestly when it comes to Peggy's music this could've been a lot worse, but it could've been a lot better. The production is great but the flows are a bit off sometimes and the random interludes are just ass bro take those out. π₯ The lyrics were great though, funny line in "The 1st Amendment"...
Overall not a bad project from Peggy, I just think I'll need a few relistens to get the full picture.
When it comes to classic albums, Black Sabbath's albums are examples of the best of the best.
Their debut is just that; it's heavy, weird, but most of all, classic sounding. It's got that classic 70's rock sound blended with some elements of the earliest forms of heavy metal. Well rounded, and a great vocal performance from Ozzy.
Heavy, anthemic, and epic are three of the best words I would describe "Blood Fire Death" by Bathory. Genuinely a great record with some fantastic production.
It's the B-sides to "Kiss", but released before...?
Anyway, Carly Rae Jepsen's "Curiosity" is the first instance of her dance-pop sound that she's so well known for. Her lyricism isn't fantastic, but the production is stellar and upbeat. Vocally she just sounds happy in the studio and has a certain excitement to her voice.
The only official live album by indie singer-songwriter Clairo is a great representation of her raw talent. Her sound at Electric Lady takes songs from "Immunity" and "Sling" but aren't too far off from her studio sound. However, the in the moment vocals bring together a stellar performance.
First up, my favorite, which is "Amoeba". The electric guitars are so amazing here, with the piano being more prominent. I personally prefer this as it gives the sound a ... read more
This is the first EP by singer-songwriter Laufey. This debut release was a new taste of a considered a near dead genre; jazz-pop. Her different style to other songwriters sets her apart from the others, as her soothing voice contrasts with a lot of current artists. Laufey is very easy to digest, with her songs being relatable and are written very well.
Lyrically, these songs are perfect, with clever rhyming and word usage. My personal favorite song form this EP is "James", which ... read more
This is the third and recent studio album from beabadoobee. In my opinion, this is her best album to date, having some of the most creative indie rock and alternative pop sounds of 2024. Her work with Rick Rubin elevates her musical prowess here to another level and it shows clearly.
Starting off strong, we have "Take A Bite". The lead single is one of the grooviest tracks here, with an alternative pop rock focus. I enjoyed the harmonization in the chorus and the overall psychedelic ... read more
AURA AT ITS FINEST.
Mastodon's magnum opus album "Crack the Skye" is an amazing project with some of the most lush and progressive sounds from metal in a while. It's heavy, yet keeps the energy high with some unique production and instrumentals. Don't let those 11 and 13 minute tracks intimate you, as they are just packed with some of the hardest guitars I've heard from Mastodon. Genuinely a masterpiece.
