Very strangely structured album. An ambient piece, then 8 hardcore punk songs, then another ambient piece but it’s 10 minutes. As an overall album it’s weaker than fetch but there are things it does better, for example the lyricism doesn’t seem like nonsense and each song has a clear theme. It’s also nice to have live drums. On the chorus of chain-shot the snare on every 8th note is brutal by grindcore standards.

My introduction to tangerine dream. All 4 tracks are great and unique. The short track count made the album feel quite short.
I liked that cinnamon road basically felt like a pop song and is probably my most listened to song on the album. The only album like this I’ve listed to is the Blade Runner score and I felt this was like that but less emotive.
I decided to relisten to this because when I first listened to it about a year ago my music listening habits were much different: I just picked out the songs that were catchy and adrenaline filled and ignored the rest as well as the lyrics.
I chose to relisten to it to try and pick up on the narrative as well as the dc tracks. I kind of picked up on a narrative from cops and robbers to Johnny Johnny Johnny but other than that run of tracks the rest of the album sounded like unrelated events. I ... read more
A very simple death metal album. Definitely a collection of songs over an album experience.
My favourite songs were the ones where the melodies and chord progressions sounded evil.
Favourite tracks: chapel of ghouls, visions from the dark side, immortal rites, damnation, maze of torment
I’m assuming this is the recommended starting point for Bjork’s discography because to me it really showed her sound while also being very accessible.
I was already familiar with Army of Me and Hyper-ballad and I love those two songs and they were definitely two of my favourite songs on the album. I don't think they transition into each other too well but structurally their positions in the album are good.
I do like the tonal variance of the album, while the main themes are ... read more
Probably the most redundant (but not the worst) Radiohead album.
You get every flavour of radiohead; idm, noise rock, singer songwriter, all at once. But it just feels like a collection of songs and not a cohesive album. Maybe Radiohead just wanted to blurt out some obligatory radiohead songs to complete their deal with emi.
Lyriacism is very sparse and challenging and not nearly as political as I thought it would be (I guess I was expecting something like public enemy or the dead kennedys), ... read more
My first Tool album, It's incredible.
My favourite thing was definitely the lyricism. I don't know which member is the main lyricist but I really resonated with the themes he displayed. The Grudge, Schism, The patient and Parabol/Parabola all dissect faith from different perspectives and pretty effortlessly explore that concept from both a positive and negative perspective. However the songs I resonated the most with were the title track and reflection. The title track is about ... read more
I hate to be the new the bad, old thing good guy, but I think this is slop. Trent and Atticus clearly don't want to make pop music anymore and I would be perfectly fine if we never get a NIN album ever again since a) they will constantly be scoring things and b) NIN's influence is so prominent that we will never really miss that sound and it will continue to evolve through people who are influenced by it.
Beautiful, comforting, profound, masterfully crafted. I now know why Conor Oberst is so many people’s favourite songwriter.
On my quest to learn to appreciate lyricism as much as if not more than musicality this was definitely a challenge for me especially on my first listen. But it is slowly growing on me and by my 3rd listen I was in love. It will definitely take me a lot of listening to these songs to form my interpretations of them, (unfortunately my brain is rotted from years of ... read more

I’m absolutely addicted to this album. Every track is crazy. I listened to a veteran a few years ago but I think I was doing something else at the same time so I don't really remember it so I guess this is my introduction to peggy.
HOLY SHIT PRODUCTION PRODUCTION PRODUCTION. I don’t think someone can make a peggy type beat because all of these sound so different. Everyone who thinks sampling is inherently stealing has obviously never heard this album. I love how Peggy's ... read more
It sounds like an insane asylum. I love it.
This is my introduction to swans and I know It's not what the rest of their discography sounds like. The monotonality of the album just sounds so alien and unique which I think is what makes me love it. Giras production sounds like something forced out of the constraints of what was available in 1983. I might listen to something else from this era of swans next or I’ll listen to the great annihilator.
I discovered this album through this reddit comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/Topster/comments/1klw8br/comment/ms60865/, so thanks u/cYbOmAnY
I can definitely imagine Edgra Wright really liking this album as most of the tracks on here would fit right into baby driver or a film in the cornetto trilogy. Song writing is quite basic but the organ has a nice bluesy sound. There's really not much to this album which I guess is why it's not talked about that much.

Not in love with this as much as the rest of the internet. Still liked it alot but pretty much everything I liked was absent from the first 6 tracks (Galaxy to Surround Sound). After that I felt the Album became more introspective and intellectual. Tracks like Bruddanem and sistanem obviously depict JID’s complex relationship with his family. Stars has a lot to say about artistry and is very nuanced which I really related to. The production also became a lot more creative after the first ... read more
Beautifully ethereal and melancholic. Douglas P.’s lyricism is quite rhythmically simple but clearly discusses themes such as loss of faith, homosexuallity and how it is perceived by society, psychedelics and escapism, and parenthood.
This is my first exposure to neofolk, hearing that it's supposedly “industrial folk” I was expecting something more harsh and electronic. But I think (using my limited frame of reference) that I’d describe it more as ethereal and ... read more
Absolutely amazing mix of hardcore punk, noise rock and math rock. Proof that genrefied and uncommercial music can still be innovative and artistic. Love all the chaos, from Ichiro Agata’s high pitched squeals to Yasuko Onuki’s staccato vocal stabs and her surrealist lyrics that are like the happy fantastical version of Stefan burnetts songwriting. Probably my favourite Hardcore punk album of all time. No bad tracks.

Definitely has the DNA of a musical and I’m aware that that’s Bowie’s background but I would probably be able to tell even if I wasn't already aware. That's not an insult. The album lives up to its legacy. However I think I would prefer the Art Pop Bowie (As in post 1975 when he met Brian Eno), so I would rather listen to something like Heroes despite the fact that this is on the same level as that album in terms of quality if not better.
The plot starts off very ... read more
Probably my least favorite album in the black midi/Gerodie Greep solo career discography (cavalcade is the only one i'm yet to listen to). That being said, it's still great. The sound here just isn't as refined as on Hellfire and The New Sound and lacks a lot of the emotion that those two albums have. It also lacks almost all the Latin and Jazz influence and is pure zany math rock craziness.
