Bland retread of styles that have been done to death by better bands. 10 points for the fun I had playing "oh now they're doing Arctic Monkeys - now they're doing Hives - now they're doing Arctic Monkeys again." Has no business existing.
Lightning in a bottle. A special record. If you have ever enjoyed punk rock, you must check it out. Fantastic songs performed like it's the band's last day on Earth. Has a kind of manic energy reminiscent of early Clash, but with a style all their own.
How many times do you people need Lou to do ~experimental~? Avant-garde is great, but the man's gotta eat too. So stop your whining, kick back and relax, and enjoy some classic pop-rock heaters from a master songwriter with his new buddies.
This is one of the best collections of songs ever released by anyone. It is masterpiece after masterpiece. That being said, the album's weaknesses may be its length and tendency towards grandiosity. Stevie goes for more of an easy listening sort of sound stylistically, which, while still great, leads me to grab the trim, focused and funkier Innervisions if I had to choose.
Lauryn cements her place on the Mount Rushmore of hip-hop.
The Force is strong with this one. Zannie's talents as a songwriter are clear. Looking forward to what comes next.
Highlights: Mechanical Bull, A Rose for Every Puppet, Get That Star, Poison Plant, Doppler
Mac doing his Bizarro Elvis thing. It works. The songs are good.
Blue In Green is one of the most beautiful things ever recorded. The rest is alright too.
Instrumental arrangements are innovative and the microtonal approach makes the guitar work extremely compelling. Great, tight band performances. Vocals are a sticking point, tolerable but I would have appreciated a stronger lead singer. It almost doesn't matter, since the music is so interesting.
