This album is beautiful and awe-inspiring. Tyler outdid himself with Cherry Bomb creating a fuzzy experimental jazz sound that is equal parts abrasive and smooth. The lyrical content juxtaposes his usual brash aggressive rapping style with more personal and thematic lyrics about Tyler struggling to find his wings and encouraging the listener to fly alongside him. This album helped me in a dark phase of my life and is very special to me. Tyler has crafted a masterpiece with Cherry Bomb, a rich ... read more
The singles released for Dummy Boy were mostly mediocre and trash and now that the full album is here i can't really say anything of praise. The beats on the album are at times fun but are ruined by 6ix9ines's delivery, which consists of either screaming or autotune singing. There are also way too many features on this album, some of which are enjoyable such as Kanye on his couple brief verses but that doesn't save this project. If you want a fun, mindless, colourful trap album full of bangers ... read more
A great listen, randomly stumbled into this album late one night and i was really surprised. This is some nice classic sounding psych-rock with poppy and folk elements sprinkled throughout. I had never heard of Glim Spanky before this but i am impressed, after 5 or so listens this has become one of my favourite rock albums of the year.
What on earth is this? Jaden Smith, dubstep drops, Dragon Ball references... I'm so confused
Jaden Smiths' 2017 debut SYRE is an incredible surprise of an album that mixes and mashes influences to create some genuinely refreshing hip-hop music. The narrative throughout is convoluted and too complex to be coherent however i feel it works as a great segway between each song, adding cohesion and emotion to the album. If you are going to listen to any of the tracks here I'd highly recommend Ninety, a heartfelt 7 minute epic that starts off as a basic smooth love song but transforms into an ... read more
Great, weird, zany punk tunes from The Garden. One of the best indie punk releases of the year! This album manages to be both sonically diverse but at the same time incredibly cohesive and carry's an early 2000s nostalgic vibe for some reason. It feels like the album equivalent of Microsoft clip-art, in the best way possible!
Earls' best track since his last album! A soulful sample driven beat with an ear-wormy melody gives Earl the best canvas to paint his bars over. Some Rap Songs will be amazing i can already call it!
One of the best releases of the year to come from the EDM scene. Alison crafts quirky and thrilling tracks across Awake with the pop sounds of the sung tracks and more booming sound of the bangers.
Easily Twenty One Pilot's best album and one of the years greatest musical achievements. This album is rich, deep and ear-catching!
Juice WRLD and Future's collab project could have been way worse. It's safe to say that Juice is the only thing worthwhile throughout this, as his melodies provide for some catchy and fun tracks. But Future is still just Future and honestly ruins a lot of these tracks. Overall a mediocre listen but some of the tracks are bangers such as Jet Lag, Fine China and the title track WRLD on Drugs
A fun project of holiday tracks that sound more or less like lesser quality Flower Boy cuts. However, this EP is still a lot of fun and will slide into my holiday music rotation well! The track Lights On sounds like it came out in the 80s and is a standout bop!
The Sunset Tapes ultimately delivered in all aspects for me. As some who enjoyed SYRE and love The Electric Album, this tape feels like a blend of the sounds of those respective projects. The banging trap inspired tracks such as A Calabasas Freestyle, Plastic and Better Things sound like tracks that would have fit snugly in the track-list of SYRE. The other tracks follow a more experimental autotune sound that was present on The Electric Album. Ultimately, as someone who enjoys Jaden Smiths' ... read more
