Dronevil on Spotify AND a peak live performance of Pink? It's a good day to be a Boris fan.
Do NOT let that bald melon come within 50 yards of this
Shoutout Paysage d'Hiver continuing to drop the best metal that's ever been recorded. Only Tobias Möckl could get me emerging from my cave of endless Les Rallizes Denudes archives, Fushitsusha box sets and unorganized playlists covering everyone from Bob Dylan to Pharoah Sanders to Tommy Heavenly6 to Boris, and actually listen to NEW music. What a goat.
If you've heard Paysage d'Hiver before, you know the drill: ... read more
Shout out Ramin Djawadi consistently making some of the greatest scores for television. An actual master of his craft. But...
How the fuck did these writers fuck up COMPLETED MATERIAL quicker than Dumb & Dumber were able to fuck up unfinished material? Actually incredible. Right from episode 1 I could feel the massive drop in quality of overall writing. Just like the later seasons of GOT, this was a season of a few brilliant hype moments executed successfully enough to spike interest ... read more
PSA: Despite having the exact same cover and being just as long, this album is NOT - I repeat, is NOT - Secret Black Box. Don't make the same mistake as me. It's understandable why some of us have been confused with this, but you can tell if you listen closely to the music; Secret Black Box has much better quality songwriting and musicianship.
P.S. This album was better with the Globglogabgolab
Man, even the BEATLES dropped before The Winds of Winter!
Hurry up, George! This is getting ridiculous.
Eh, the song's alright. Knowing the backstory doesn't really help none; it's a pretty mediocre '70s Lennon song with a lot of overblown production. Feels a lot more manufactured than other Beatles songs, which is understandable considering they only had a demo to work with, but doesn't make for a thrilling listen. I could've gone the rest of my life happily without hearing this song... but I ... read more
The US reissue cut out four tracks to make room for the mega hit and all-time classic (as well as my vote for absolute best Rolling Stone song), Paint It, Black.
Stupid Girl was not one of these songs.
They also could've kept most of the original track list intact, if they so wished, if they just cut out Going Home. 11 and a half minutes of aimless, meandering jamming that feels like some A-side filler. I think one bad song in favor for one great song makes more sense than cutting the only ... read more
I don't dislike this.
I don't like it when artists re-record older material in the studio without reason. It's one of the most creatively bankrupt ideas there is. Almost like they're admitting "Yep, I'm all out of ideas. Here's this one thing you guys liked at one point; send more money!" Can you imagine if Paul McCartney re-recorded Abbey Road under the guise of it being "Paul's Version", even though he wrote most of the album? Or Taylor Swift re-recording the albums that ... read more
My new favourite GY!BE record, and it isn't even officially released. The absolute intensity of these performances, the pure energy, elevate these tracks so much, and make for a remarkable, wholly engaging listen. This is some of the best post-rock I've ever heard. Really deserving of my first GY!BE 10 (granted, LYSF and Slow Riot are long overdue an updated rating, but I digress). Excited to dive deeper into their bootlegs. If any others are even a fraction as good as this, then I'll be elated.
Oh no! It's Yoko! Part IV
The one where JSG forgets his words for 2 months and doesn't know how to review the goddamn album
I've really been struggling to get the words right for this album. There's a few ideas I want to get across, but for two months, I've had no idea how to actually tackle them. Well, I'm just tearing the damn plaster off so I can push forward in her discography.
Simply put, Plastic Ono Band is Yoko's first classic, and arguably her best release. It shows her ... read more
This one's for those who post nerd emojis whenever someone talks about the mixing...
The raw, ferocious, hold-no-prisoners Iggy mix | VS. | The limp-dick, personalityless Bowie mix
This just goes to prove that the mix is very much important to the end result of the music. Some of y'all may want to block your ears and scream at the top of your lungs, "Stop being a nerd and enjoy the music!" but that doesn't change the facts. Bowie was undoubtedly a master of his craft. He was ... read more
Y'all wanna talk about scaring the hoes?
You listen to Brainbombs - Obey to cringe and complain about edgelord lyrics.
I listen to Brainbombs - Obey to laugh, and appreciate the hard, repetitive, noisy punk riffs.
We are not the same.
When the high school metal band discover Mike Patton for the first time and decide that THAT'S that best music of all time.
This album is terrible. If it wasn't so goddamn entertaining, I'd rate it a 1.
You see, Sleep Token; THIS is how you make a bad album. You can't even do THAT right.
Listened for the PC.
Metal for retail stores.
I will not be the slightest bit phased if the next time I go to the shops I hear Granite jammed between Yellow and Sucker for Pain.
The Creator Has a Master Plan is a lot shorter than I remember.
+20 points because Ice Spice feature. She really brought the artistry to an otherwise generic Taylor song.
Yes. Yes I am biased.
No. No I do not give a flying fuck.
Just got done rewatching this show for the umpteenth time in ten years. Still a top 10 show of all time. No, not just "top 10 anime," but top 10 OF ALL TIME. As in, up there with Breaking Bad, The Wire, Better Call Saul, The Sopranos, the good seasons of Game of Thrones... I know I'm preaching to the choir as everyone with an internet access has at least seen an episode or two of Cowboy Bebop, but seriously, if you are one of ... read more
Ok, ok, I'll admit it; After the Night is a great album. Exceptional live performance, great material all round. But let's be real here...
