Prior to hearing this record I had only heard 1 clipping song, Something Underneath, which was a song off their 2020 record, Visions of Bodies Being Burned. So, coming into this record, I had imagined I would be hearing some horrorcore related stuff, not only because of what I have heard from them, but because of what other people have been saying about them. I mean, I don't really know if I have heard any horrorcore before, but I would definitely assume this very so falls into the category of ... read more
This record is fucking nuts. Energy is off the wall, on god one of the most fun records I've ever heard. Would recommend if you like fun.
Complete boredom.
One minute I am hearing some singer songwriter type minimal instrumentation and singing, but then I'm hearing some synth pop, except the "variety" is all filtered through a very boring pop lens. The single tracks were already painful enough, like the track Holy, with it's terrible corny terrible lyrics and bare bones instrumental, with a TERRIBLE Chance The Rapper feature, one of the worst features I've ever heard on god. aphex twin rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (aphex twin electronics)
This record has some 10/10 songs on it... But the main issue is that it's not entirely consistent. There are couple tracks on this record like Zombies and California that drag the score down by a bit. They're not bad, but they're just not as good as some tracks like the opener, Me and Your Mama, Redbone, Baby Boy, or the closer, Stand Tall. Most of these tracks' instrumentals are beautiful though, and I do come back to a few songs quite a bit.
There is an EXTREME drop off in quality after the 3rd track. Basically after that one there is not really a track I enjoy until the closer. I like the closer, probably my favourite off the record, and while the first 3 tracks are far from perfect, they're still kinda nice. Just after that 3rd track it becomes more of a chore to listen to..
Billy Corgan's voice was grating to me, hearing from previous songs of theirs. This was quite some time ago, but I just wasn't a fan of it really that much, but this time around on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, I actually really liked his voice. His voice has a lot of character, and I just really like the tone of it over this music. The instrumentals on this record are also really great, the songs are really memorable on this record. There is not many times I go into a record ... read more
