Quite possibly the most underrated emo record of all time. Through the band's creative use of post-rock and midwest emo sonics, powerful vocals, and interesting and nuanced song structures, they stir up a masterpiece.
Everything on this record is great, i only listen to this record front to back, I never skip ahead only to hear one song, because I feel like the sum of all the parts of this record truly are better than repeated one track on this record. Do not mistake this though for the songs ... read more
Pretty solid record, I do like a great deal of this thing, especially in the first half, but I really think the project kind of wanes in quality around the track Wishing Bad, but the track Falling out the Sky with Earl Sweatshirt was really good. Great flows, performances, and lyrics, just wish some of the tracks sounded more interesting.
yeah it's pretty good
I don't think every track here is as consistent or solid as it could've been. There are a few tracks here, especially like the closer, Futura Free which just feel way weaker in comparison to other tracks like Pink + White, Self Control, or Nights. Frank Ocean's voice of course is pretty great, and the instrumental and production backing these tracks are really crisp and smooth. Even though most of this record is pretty minimalist, it uses minimalism to its benefit, and ... read more
So like this thing is really god damn epic, and just a really solid listen. Very fun and very cool, i love how this thing sounds. btw Dsco is like the only song you can play in public without people thinking you're weird lol
This record's dank, I kind of want to rate it higher, but it might just be a nostalgia thing, not everything on this record is perfect, it has its rough patches and some tracks are just a bit too little, but i still love the hell out of WOLF.
ultimately doesn't really shape up to Lookaftering or Just Another Diamond Day but it still has some pretty nice moments
one of the prettiest records i've ever heard, one of the most pleasant on god
Lightning Bolt's Sonic Citadel, is the record that proceeded Fantasy Empire, which was a record that was just a little bit good, not anything legendary or amazing like their 2000s catalog, and that had to do with some of it being different, but unexciting.. But then after that record came Sonic Citadel, which feels like maybe everything Fantasy Empire was trying to be. This record actually takes a step back from the increasing noise levels they were stirring up on Hypermagic Mountain and ... read more
After Earthly Delights, came a B-Sides record, Oblivion Hunter, and then came a record-label shift from Load Records to Thrill Jockey, and then came Fantasy Empire. This record is alright, it is maybe just a little bit good.. However, the issue with this record, is that while they tried a new sound, a sound that is far more cleaner, but maybe watered down in it's rambunctiousness, they do not really stir up something here cool, at least consistently. Do not get me wrong, there are some great ... read more
never was a tremendous GY!BE fan, and their new release is somewhat pleasant, but i'm not too sure if it's something i would come back to. still pretty nice, although i wouldn't call it that adventurous or exciting compared to some of their classic material, it's still a pretty beautiful record
i think i'm suffering from stock-holm syndrome, after the 200th listen, this record is actually quite decent
i like this record, the vocals are great and the instrumentals are pretty good as well. i'm not really a fan of pop punk flavored emo, more a fan of just the pure post hardcore post rock styled midwest emo, but this is actually pretty good for the most part.
grew on me quite a fair bit. definitely some car seat headrest influence on this record, it's like an emo car seat headrest, but there are some really god damn good tracks on here, like My Sputnik Sweetheart. just a pretty solid emo record, but it does suffer from the same thing a lot of earlier car seat headrest albums suffered from, which is that the production and recording quality is super lofi, and pretty grating at times.
