SZA - SOS
83

I'm a little embarrassed I like this album as much as I do. This album has been a long time in the making but often doesn't feel as groundbreaking as I hoped. SZA is consistent, you gotta give her that. If it truly is her farewell album, I think it accomplishes what she set out to do, every song explores feelings we can all relate to backed by catchy beats and melodies. As far as vocals go, this album is sub-par for me, especially considering the amount of effort that went into it. Regardless, ... read more

Say Sue Me - The Last Thing Left
78

Despite the fact that I discovered this album through a podcast, I feel like Say Sue Me is such a hidden gem. Any indie fan will be comfortable with this album, willingly greeted by predictable, but great guitar riffs and supplemental melodies. One of the best upbeat albums to be the soundtrack of a mental breakdown. This is a group to watch for sure :)

MUNA - MUNA
90

One of my favorite albums of 2022. I remember listening to MUNA back in high school and being a fan, but ultimately feeling like their style was being suppressed. When they were freed from the confines of RCA and signed with SaddestFactory Records, they truly became what they were always destined to be. This self-titled album is MUNA's ticket to well-deserved stardom.

Charlie Hickey - Nervous At Night
70

I didn't like this album upon the first listen, but then a few months later I found myself singing it in my head. I don't think Charlie Hickey is for everyone, but his unique vocal style, catchy choruses, and the almost hyper-self-awareness in his lyrics are certainly entertaining. I'm excited to see what he does next.

Earl Sweatshirt - SICK!

Earl has always kept things real, and this album is no exception.

Eminem - Music to Be Murdered By
50

This record is not great I just wanna know who paid the Telegraph to give it a 100 rating????

Ritt Momney - Her And All of My Friends
88

Raw, real, and riveting. The music speaks for itself and the lyrics are existential-crisis-inducing in the best way. This sort of unabashed authenticity is what most musicians and songwriters only accomplish in their wildest dreams. Highly underrated, highly recommended :)

Wet - Still Run
48

This hits a little low for me, Wet has obviously never heard the phrase “finish strong”. The final tracks heavily rely on the rest of the album to cary their mediocrity.
Comfortable is synonymous with the ambiance of the instrumentals and lyrics. Wet didn’t take any risks and consequently surrendered all possible rewards. The absence of creativity doesn’t allow anything to differentiate between tracks. Not horrible, but not great.

Ariana Grande - thank u, next
67

Honestly this album didn't really hit it for me. I appreciate the effort and I do believe this album is a huge artistic improvement for Grande, but there are several tracks that just ruin the whole album for me. Don't get me wrong, Grande is a very talented a driven individual, but her impressive vocals were left behind for the majority of the songs. Overall, thank u, next is a fairly decent album from a talented artist with impressive potential and influence.

Solange - When I Get Home

Solange goes above and beyond, taking control of several genres with ease. Each track blends effortlessly, all while making a statement. A true celebration of music and Solange's often overlooked talent.

Angelo De Augustine - Tomb
73

This retrospective album is sweet and simple. Soft vocals and dimmed instrumental melodies accomplish a feeling of a simpler time. This album is a great step for Angelo De Augustine and it took me by surprise.
I appreciate the contrasting styles and tempos of each individual song, it keeps the album from lagging and draws a listener in.

The Japanese House - Good At Falling
78

Amber Bain played it safe with this album. The lyrics are often muted and don't offer any groundbreaking substance beyond struggles with love and life. Although relatable and rather well-written, the subject matter of this album is not outstanding. However, I appreciate the raw honesty and emotion Bain protrays.
In comparison with Bain's previous releases, Good At Falling lacks the luster I was looking forward to. I do want to note that this album is most certainly thought-provoking and ... read more

WOW. This EP has the power of a full length album, accomplished in a short 21 minutes. I was definitely left begging for more. Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus make an unsuspected power trio, their styles seamlessly blend for an emotional, beautiful 6 tracks.

Heart-wrenching. This EP sneaks up on you, initially, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I do. These three play to each other's strengths and elevate each individual in a collective effort.
I'm amazed at how well the different genres ... read more

Blood Orange - Negro Swan
95

I’ve procrastinated writing this review for awhile because I knew I could never do this album justice. I believe that Negro Swan very well accomplishes what Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer sought out to do.
Dev Hynes does the best at saying the most with the least. This album is an anthem for those who feel displaced in the world. The delicacy in which these issues are addressed and translated into music is astounding. This is most certainly the best R&B album of 2018 and ... read more

MIKE - War in my Pen
68

I accidentally deleted my initial review and I don’t really care about this album enough to rewrite it.

Overall, I enjoyed most of the album. I felt the themes of nostalgia were carried out through the melancholy instrumentals and dimmed vocals quite well. However, there were many times where the vocals were drowned out to the point that they were incomprehensible. I would have liked to see more original experimentation, nothing really stood out to me.

Chet Baker - Chet Baker Sings
79

Technically speaking, this album is not the most impressive or advanced, the simple instrumentals and amateur vocals are slightly underwhelming. But, this is an album I find myself coming back to, its beautifully done.

Lil Nas X - Old Town Road
67

Country music usually makes me want to eat my own vomit, but this song makes me want to walk onto a field in Oklahoma and make love to the first man I see sitting on a tractor.

Janelle Monáe - Dirty Computer
35

As much as I want to support the message this album contains, and is praised for, I just can’t. The age-old adage of “be yourself” and “everyone is special” is played out until its void of any meaning.
As for the musical components, there’s nothing groundbreaking. The music is generic and boring.
Honestly, if I turn this album on and I don’t pay attention, its borderline enjoyable. But if I think too hard about the music or lyrics, I’m bored and ... read more

This shit is just not good, sorry.

Billy Lemos - Self
75

Really for no reason at all, I have a bit of a soft spot for Billy Lemos. Naturally, I enjoy most of what he produces and this release was no different. I didn’t have too many expectations for this EP, simply because the only song not previously released as a single is “Can’t Be // How U Feel”. Self is a collection of unrelated songs, each has a different feel and there’s not much correlation theme and production-wise.

I would classify this EP as easy-listening. ... read more
