Angelo De Augustine - Angel in Plainclothes
73

It'd be absolutely hypocritical for me to point out, as a negative, how similar to his Asthmatic Kitty label head Angelo De Augustine sounds – something I often did in the past – when my favorite song from his new album, "Cosmic Ride," is one of the more Sufjan Stevens-sounding offerings here. I'll then take "Angel in Plainclothes" for what it is: a delicate and gentle folk album that doesn't reinvent the wheel and instead finds its strength in not ... read more

Demi Lovato - It's Not That Deep
67

There's a solid and rather ambitious dance-pop album somewhere between the standard and deluxe editions of "It's Not That Deep." The original album feels servicable but is not a very exciting offering nor an especially inspired take on the genre, mostly due to its lack of variety and risk-taking in the songs' production and construction. Some moments like "Sorry to Myself," "Frequency" or "Kiss" would feel bigger if the other songs ... read more

My first American Football album. Kind of mind-blowing.

Yebba - Jean

It's always nice to have a new Yebba album and she completely blew my expectations away with "Jean" – and I did not even know what to expect initially. Instant album of the year.

"Dawn" made sense as a sort of grand statement for her debut album. It had to showcase all of that Yebba could and wanted to do and check a lot of the boxes that were more or less expected of her. Big emotional moments? Checked. Songs putting her impressive and versatile vocals at the ... read more

ezcodylee - STUNT 4 LIFE
74

An overall strong offering from ezcodylee. I appreciate how he merges rage with punk and rock sonorities by incorporating guitars in his production. It gives more intensity to the music and really amplify it. "STUNT 4 LIFE" can get a bit monotonous in its first half, but it really comes alive – no pun intended, I swear – from "FEEL ALIVE !" until the end. The second half gives you a very good idea of the sound the rapper was attempting to achieve. His vision ... read more
