5SOS will forever one of the most underestimated and underappreciated bands within modern rock as a whole; having been unfairly burdened by the blatantly incorrect label of 'boyband' for almost the entirety of their career and seen as nothing more than manufactured despite their story being anything but, but for those willing to put aside expectations and give them a fair chance, this band proves that they are ingenious, inventive and truly a remarkably important force within rock whose efforts ... read more
As It Is have always been a very special band within the modern 2010s emo/pop punk scene, boasting a one-of-a-kind sense of confessional earnest honesty with their lyricism and approach to the topics they deal with. This album, their first in almost 4 years, shows them taking a much more small-scale, personal and intimate approach to themes and lyrics, in stark comparison to their previous record, a concept album that tackled the issue of how some musicians often romanticise depression in ... read more
"sucking on the dick cum, the thick cum, the dick cum" - Jonathan Davis during the scat vocal section of Worst Is On Its Way
Coming from an obsessive lifelong Korn fan, this album is catastrophically disappointing; so little of this album feels compelling or impactful, the melodies, both vocally and instrumentally are more like vague meandering sequences of notes, the riffs are so average and weightless, and the mixing/mastering is truly abysmal; there is so much unnecessary low end ... read more
unironically one of the most horrendous things i have ever had the displeasure of listening to
edit: "one of the worst ive heard ever" is no longer the case, score has been increased by 12; this still blows, but like, it blows significantly less since i have now heard black midi
i like this band, but i cannot believe this song had a whole ass essay of an article hyping it up just for it to be a monumentally generic filler track like half of WANYK; the funniest part is how in said article, clown and corey referred to this as being some next level masterpiece and called it "god music"
lmfao
This album/band is the one of the best unintentional discoveries I have made in a while; I was fortunate enough to see them (and two other bands I intend to review soon) opening up for another band I am a big fan of, and while I had no idea who they were going into the show, I came out knowing I would never forget them after an absolutely brain-meltingly, furiously energetic performance. I instantly purchased the album out of sheer amazement, and I can safely say not a single second of this ... read more
The masters of cinematic atmosphere are back at it again with another stunning release. Soaring melodies, gorgeous synth textures and an unmatched sense of sci-fi grandiosity of cosmic proportions are here in spades as always, but with some new changes. According to vocalist Dustin Bates, Horizons was envisioned as being a sister album to the band's previous release, Divisions. It should be noted that all of the band's records are connected through lore and follow one another chronologically ... read more
An impeccably masterful follow up to an already monumentally fantastic previous album; these guys wear their weirdness and desire to experiment in the most fun ways possible boldly on their sleeves. A must-listen and one of the most fun and revitalising releases of the year. To say "all killer, no filler" is an understatement here - each song feels like it exists in a world of its own yet as a collective body of work the album feels as unified and clearly defined in terms of its ... read more
It's like he's actively trying his hardest to make the most mind-numbingly bland music possible at this point.....and in that regard, this is a colossal success
This album feels like a waste of potential, the band clearly has the capability to put out great music, and it certainly starts off promisingly with two memorable and exciting tracks that open the record, but it very soon trails off into what feels like the same song structure/approach repeating itself over and over. A similar issue plagues the extremely one-note, repetitive vocal style used here that loses its charm and becomes irritating quickly. Something about the production and mixing also ... read more
Chemtrails over the beach hut.
A clear departure from the sharp electronics and moody darkness of Pure Heroine or Melodrama, this record is better viewed and understood as the sum of its parts rather than on the basis of "which track is best". This is not to say there are no highlights or weaker tracks, there definitely are, but it remains clear this album wishes to be seen as a singular piece of art rather than individual songs. When listening from this perspective it becomes an ... read more
"Last night I had the strangest dream of all"
By far the most unique and interesting band in the pop punk scene (despite no longer being pop punk musically), Waterparks have once again topped their previous efforts with a stunningly diverse and monumentally entertaining release. Never a band to stick to one sound or creatively restrict themselves, they try their hand at a huge variety of genres and yet somehow manage to pull them all off perfectly; where other bands will claim to ... read more
