i don't think i could've picked a better setting to listen to this. i went on a long walk while listening, it was cloudy, nearly dusk, and i didn't see a single person on this 30 something minute walk. this paired with the desolate picture this music paints made for a very memorable listening experience. the very beginning kind of made me feel like i was having a schizophrenic episode, but from that point on was very interesting. i really don't even know how to explain this. enjoyed it but it ... read more
the whole beef with drake had me listening to kendrick today, so thank you drake.
it's not easy to follow up monumental projects like TPAB and GKMC, but Kendrick still manages to deliver a beautiful project here. It's not as thematic as TPAB, or beautifully told story like GKMC. I think it's more of a step into who Kendrick is, his opinions and emotions are what shine the most here. With an amazing story told at the end in DUCKWORTH.
beautiful stuff here, theres something unique about her voice that i cant pin down.
just didn't do it for me. the vocals are great but the lack of production on this makes the whole album feel like one long song. I get that it was probably supposed to be a sad album, but hearing the same guitar sounds for a good chunk of the album got really repetitive.
listened to this a few times today. very easy to like. the atmosphere it creates makes me feel like im floating. great vocal performances too.
pretty average to me, i feel like there are many other rock albums i would listen to before this one.
they definitely have a unique sound, i enjoyed a handful of songs. I think i will listen to more projects of theirs and revisit this.
this album is so fun. being able to build it with so many samples and weave it all together into a very fine product is impressive. will definitely listen to more of their work
beautiful album, it feels very delicate but somehow impactful? I do prefer yoshimi though
Overall, this is worth a listen. Really enjoy Justice's sound. The Tame Impala features work really well. I do think the project starts to fizzle out a little too quick in the second half.
Dear god this was brutal to listen to, and i mean that in the best way possible. A House In Nebraska nearly had me in tears. Beautiful and haunting vocal performance, great songwriting as well. If you need to cry at any point in time, just throw this on. oh my god.
One of the better EDM albums of the past 10 years. Considering Porter's prior projects, he took a large leap with experimentation and it paid off. The glitchy sounds and robotic vocals are well done. It would have been nice if he continued down this route with his future projects, but oh well. Divinity is a banger.
I was a fan of this album, the dark production is clean and satisfying. I am a bit short on words to describe this work but overall its definitely worth a listen.
(This is going to be a very biased review.) This album is very personal to me, I have listened to it countless times and have seen ODESZA on tour for this album three times. These songs are very tailored to their live performances (which I don't think is a bad thing). This is the album that they have been working towards since Summers Gone. The sounds they've created are angelic, and the intro into A Moment Apart is perfect. Just so I'm not completely biased, it gets a 97 from me since 'Just A ... read more
This album showcases ODESZA's further developing sound while also introducing vocal performances, something that was absent from their previous projects. I love that the vocal performances do not get overshadowed by the production behind them. This is an album I can listen to front to back. (ODESZA fan bias) Favorite tracks include: Echoes, Bloom, Sun Models, and Koto
This short EP is packed with growth from ODESZA, they've taken the sounds they've established with Summers Gone and bought into them. This EP has no skips for me (that doesn't hold as much weight since it is only 5 songs). Starting with the title track they've taken their sound and added a larger scale to it, engrossing you in these sounds. Their use of vocal chops also starts to shine through a lot more on this project.
A solid first outing from ODESZA, setting the tone for their future sounds. As a diehard ODESZA fan, it is my least favorite of their projects simply because I think they kept improving from here. This project feels the least emotional of theirs but I definitely think its an important starting point to listen to for anyone new to them. There are plenty of great tracks in IPlayYouListen, Don't Stop, Above The Middle, and I Want You.
