Way more fragmented than Sings Reign Rebuilder, but it's still really good. There are a lot of great ideas here but they just don't coalesce in a cohesive fashion like the debut did. Even so, This Thing Between Us Is A Rickety Bridge Of Impossible Crossing / Bonfires For Nobody... is an incredibly evocative closer that I'll always cherish.
An excellent conglomeration of their signature field recordings, post rock suites and halcyonic fragments. Even when the experiments don't work as well they melt seamlessly into the atmosphere.
Wow. If every song matched the caliber of The Everyday World Of Bodies this would be an all-time classic. That doesn't mean there aren't other great tracks here though. Bible Silver Corner, Gauge, Jungle Jim, and Tooth Fairy Retribution Manifesto pull their weight but Shiner is a notable misfire.
Brilliantly oscillates between tranquil nature recordings and chilling dark ambient. Like an expedition that started off perfectly but begins to go off course.
Such a minor work. Bloom is interesting but nothing groundbreaking. Little by Little is the best track here as it recaptures some of the magic leftover from Jigsaw Falling Into Place on In Rainbows. Feral is just inserted here to pump up the runtime on a 37 minute long record. And then you have a bunch of other songs that are harmless but nothing worth celebrating.
Radiohead at their most minimalistic and skeletal. Was never a huge fan of this one but I did like it more back in 2007. My favorites are definitely the more lively songs like Weird Fishes and Jigsaw Falling Into Place. Reckoner is very solid as well.
Radiohead had already exited their peak during this period. The songs aren't nearly as inspired but there is some decent stuff here amidst the mediocrity (There There, Sit Down Stand Up, Where I End and You Begin). This easily could have been edited down to ten tracks.
A more ambitious and complete version of Down Colorful Hill. Even some of the lesser tracks here like Down Through, Take Me Out, and the tender closer Brown Eyes have their moments. Grace Cathedral Park is a terrific opener, Katy Song is devastating, Rollercoaster is an overlooked gem, and Strawberry Hill is an emotional thrill ride.
24, Medicine Bottle, and Down Colorful are all incredible slowcore masterpieces. After those three though, the quality of the songs does noticeably drop.
Eh, just sounds like Rollercoaster leftovers to me. Nothing is overly bad here, it just doesn't come close to the highs released on the album a few months before.
The only real blemishes are the end of Gathering Storm and The Buildings They Are Sleeping Now with both just dragging on too long. And I don't really understand why some consider Like Antennas To Heaven to be the worst track here when it's easily the best. Seems to be their magnum opus to me because it's the perfect melding of their sample utilization, gorgeous drones and atmosphere, and of course their beautiful climaxes. The pastoral slide guitar at the end of She Dreamt She Was a ... read more
Some of the most beautiful minimalist ambient/drone ever produced. Starts off with a bang with the devastating Requiem For Dying Mothers suite and doesn't let up. Even songs that may seem minor on the surface like Gasfarming and Fac 21 are elegant little ditties that you wish would have been expanded upon further.
Favorite Tracks: Requiem For Dying Mothers, Mullholland, Piano Aquieu
