*this an impression of the 2018 remix version that I prefer a ton over the old version. so much so that I would rate the older version lower.*
This LP is incredible. I think it is understandable why some don't quite put it next to Wish You Were Here and Dark Side (that one I understand less) - Animals is a highly complex album, contains their longest songs - is musically the subtlest and easiest to miss the details in. it also addresses the novel "Animals" that is the opposite of ... read more
an album that needs no introduction. SOYCD Part 1 is their best track ever.
1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 1-5 // 5
2. Welcome to the Machine // 4.25
3. Have a Cigar // 3.75
4. Wish You Were Here // 4.75-5
5. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 6-9 // 4.25
(the only issue I have with this track is that it goes along in familiar territory but never as interesting as part 1 until the 9 minute mark. I think if the first 9 minutes would be 3 or 4 and the last 3 minutes are added on it - a total ... read more
The first Pink Floyd album I fell in love with. Mostly due to listening to the incredible track "Echoes" first.
then it surprised me how solid the rest of the album is too. even if it is somewhat a shrug too
1. One of These Days // 4
2. A Pillow of Winds // 3
(I do not think Pink Floyd was ever remotely subtle. wish you were here might be the only instance. mayyyybe animals, somewhat. but I would argue that LP gains power because of how much it is in your face. all their other ... read more
This is a strange album to me. The atmosphere it creates is undeniable and this is after Echoes probably the first LP by Pink Floyd that established their sound fully. Just by that alone this deserves a higher rating, but track by track I don't feel I ever revisit this or even need to.
except the ending, the ending is incredible.
1. Speak to Me // 3 - 3.5
2. Breathe (In the Air) // 3

Not perfect at all. The second side of this LP suffers a bit of...teeth. It meanders a little. Not catchy enough. Sometimes just also not complex enough.
But the first side is glorious, iconic and without a doubt has a sound that I've never heard anyone being even remotely able to repeat. maybe a patti smith.
1. See No Evil // 4.5 - 5

This might be the best album ever. and I say that as someone who wouldn't label themselves as a die-hard dylan fan.

the most fleshed out, complex, incredibly genius, emotional, coolest and metal beatles record. the past few days I had this LP on repeat. The last song (Sun King to the End is just simply phenomenal.) I Want You (She's So Heavy) is the most badass beatles song. Something is subtle perfection.
1. Come Together // 4.75
(the first time the blues influence is not only so subtle but perfectly makes the song to the classic that it is.)

(just wow.)

back to simple straight-forward tracks and some of the songs here invented genres, I'm convinced by that.
this is arguably their most fun LP and my favorite. for many Abbey Road is the best, I can totally understand why but this always felt like Revolver but simply more. and more beatles isn't necessarily bad.
also they have clearly improved over the couple of years.
A1. Back In The U.S.S.R. // 4.5

(the best Beatles song. period.)

they continue going the weird route. sometimes I wish they would go back to their simplicity back
interestingly though it does what Peppers does but actually really good. much more superior over that particular album. for beatles standards quite underrated in their catalogue.

the biggest turning point in their career in my opinion. yes, revolver is wonderfully simple. tells powerful love stories and is incredibly consistent.
here they started to become really fucking weird. sometimes not weird enough! and then also too straight-forward as well. an odd album that never quite knows what it wants to be.

huge step-up and a near fantastic LP. however later we see the beatles with even more unbelievable musicianship in my opinion. more fleshed out. more complex. and better lyrics (one of the huge flaws with earlier Beatles LPs).
some tracks here are all-timers though.

for many a personal favorite. for me an album that is admirable for creating all these now iconic sounds (pretty much all the first 7 songs.). however, I can't comfortably say that anything on her qualifies as a favorite.). my biggest problem is that all the tracks here feel like they needed more time to develop.
credit is where credit is due, except for the now famously awful "Run For Your Life", all of the tracks here sound *nice*.

if this is their last LP, that is okay. it is one of their most beautiful and subtle efforts. the only thing I miss is the rawness.
it is incredibly consistent, nearly too consistent. I wish it breaches out more often (Burn the Witch, Ful Stop, Tinker Tailor ending). listening to the whole album can become too one-note at a certain point, but it is undeniably one of their high-points in their discography. True Love Waits would be a fitting ending too.

I do not hate this album. I heard the live version is superior over the studio version, but this is easily Radiohead at their most incomplete.
the most disappointing aspect of this is how much of a step-down it is after In Rainbows in ambition and vastness. it sounds so cold even if it wants to achieve the opposite.

easily their best. it is not even close. not even in the same universe
a culmination of everything Radiohead has done so far. wonderfully bloated - but every song is executed so unbelievably well. it's so straightforward and to the point. love it.
I think if I listen to certain tracks only I wouldn't love them as much but within the context of the LP and the pacing from track to track, this is easily one of my favorite albums of the 00s.

I'm going to be the guy who calls this Kid B. (either half-finished ideas and songs or complete bangers.)
when I started listening to Radiohead this was to the first LP where I kind of "got" the Radiohead praise. it was beautifully experimental and surreal.
1. Packt Like Sardines In A CrushD Tin Box // 3.25
2. Pyramid Song // 4.75

For me this is the actual turning point for Radiohead. The record that turns Radiohead *into* Radiohead.
Ok Computer is hailed at some perfect alternative rock LP and I won't deny the excellence of the production and especially of the song "Paranoid Android".
But Radiohead was always more glitchy and digital for me. and darker. and warmer.
Kid A just sucks you in.
