easily their best. it is not even close. not even in the same universe
*this an impression of the 2018 remix version that I prefer a ton over the old version. so much so that I would rate the older version lower.*
This LP is incredible. I think it is understandable why some don't quite put it next to Wish You Were Here and Dark Side (that one I understand less) - Animals is a highly complex album, contains their longest songs - is musically the subtlest and easiest to miss the details in. it also addresses the novel "Animals" that is the opposite of ... read more
an album that needs no introduction. SOYCD Part 1 is their best track ever.

(the only issue I have with this track is that it goes along in familiar territory but never as interesting as part 1 until the 9 minute mark. I think if the first 9 minutes would be 3 or 4 and the last 3 minutes are added on it - a total ... read more
The first Pink Floyd album I fell in love with. Mostly due to listening to the incredible track "Echoes" first.
then it surprised me how solid the rest of the album is too. even if it is somewhat a shrug too
1. One of These Days // 4
2. A Pillow of Winds // 3
(I do not think Pink Floyd was ever remotely subtle. wish you were here might be the only instance. mayyyybe animals, somewhat. but I would argue that LP gains power because of how much it is in your face. all their other ... read more
This is a strange album to me. The atmosphere it creates is undeniable and this is after Echoes probably the first LP by Pink Floyd that established their sound fully. Just by that alone this deserves a higher rating, but track by track I don't feel I ever revisit this or even need to.
except the ending, the ending is incredible.

Not perfect at all. The second side of this LP suffers a bit of...teeth. It meanders a little. Not catchy enough. Sometimes just also not complex enough.
But the first side is glorious, iconic and without a doubt has a sound that I've never heard anyone being even remotely able to repeat. maybe a patti smith.
1. See No Evil // 4.5 - 5
