Joesef - Permanent Damage
85

This is my first introduction to Joesef and it does not disappoint, his vocal delivery is incredibly consistent and very hard to fault. The synth heavy indie-pop tracklist feels like a light yet meaningful journey into Joesef’s emotions. My only real criticism is that there seems to be little in terms of a wider meaning behind the project as a whole, and at times the tracks blend into each other.

파란노을 [Parannoul] - After the Magic
85

While the language barrier makes it hard to properly appreciate it, the inspiring instrumentation is more than enough to solidify this album as one of the better releases of 2023. Standouts were Polaris, we shine at night, and parade.

Panic! at the Disco - Death of a Bachelor
75

The death of a bachelor feels like a trip through nostalgia, and it’s not as bad as some might fear. While lyrics can be awkward and off-putting at times, and the tracklist has a ‘copy your homework but change a few things’ feel, it is still a collection of anthems that is very cohesive and consistent enough to be worthy of a relisten every once in a while. Standouts for me were emperors new clothes and death of a bachelor

Harry Styles - Harry Styles
75

This is a great solo debut with a unique charm and interesting song writing, however some tracks fail to reach their potential with a lot of production choices feeling too bland or safe. Still quite good, Harry’s vocal performances are the highlight.

Samia - Honey

This album feels like a knock off Phoebe bridgers with wonky song writing, strange and downright uncomfortable sections, and an underachieving instrumental performance. That being said, it is still a decent listen with a few standout tracks that could easily belong on a much better album.

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
90

Well this was totally unexpected. The best release of January by a decent amount, let’s start here totally blew me away. I wasn’t that aware of lil yachty, essentially pigeonholing him into the rather uninteresting and comfortably average melodic rap genre. However, this take on psych rock feels fresh and almost like it was needed, with every track serving a purpose and not feeling out of place. My only criticism is that yachty should have worked on his vocal performance before ... read more

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP2
70

A more mature yet still nostalgic eminem takes on a self-reflective narrative to bring fan service in a satisfactory manner. This thing is pretty decent, only held back by weaker songs, poor lyrics and painfully obvious attempts at mainstream appeal. Bad guy is by far the best from this album and is perhaps the best opener of any of Eminem’s projects

Tame Impala - InnerSpeaker
70

Plenty of good ideas, but the project seems to drag on and not reach its full potential. Some stylistic mixing choices are not pleasing at all, but overall this is still a solid debut
