An insane amount of potential shines through a rather amateur set of performances with interesting production and questionable songwriting

Kali Uchis - Red Moon In Venus

This was quite pretty and had some interesting peaks, but a lot of the songs just started boiling down together and consequently nothing really stood out for me to rate this exceptionally highly.

shame - Food for Worms

Once again not entirely my genre, but I can see the appeal. There’s nothing awful about this record and it’s a satisfying listen, my only problem is that it feels uninspired or directionless at times.

Logic - College Park
70

I’m not extremely familiar with logic but I found this really accessible. I like the direction and intention that is behind this record, and there’s some moments of production magic. I think the second half leans slightly on the dull and less interesting side, minus the final track Lightyear. Lyrics at times can be corny and the spoken word parts are good but a little too common in my opinion.

Skrillex - Quest For Fire
60

I honestly don’t really see much of a difference quality wise between this and Don’t get too close. Both were relatively similar with some highs and lows, not my exact style but I can appreciate parts of this.

This isn’t exactly my genre at all, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt very consistent and unique, and the song writing and delivery was interesting. There were times where it felt weak or unnatural or just didn’t click, but overall it was satisfactory.

Gorillaz - Cracker Island
75

This has a lot of highs and interesting moments, but it can get quite bland or a lack in vocal ability.

quinnie - flounder
75

There’s so much potential on this; ‘man’ is by far the best track and nothing even comes close to it (although jakes car almost copies it directly). There are many instrumental passages that catch my interest, but a lot of the vocal mixing and delivery feels weak or out of place. The shorter songs feel like filler, and ‘get what u get’ not being a full song is a crime as it had so much potential. Still decent but I can’t help but feel a little disappointed ... read more

quinnie - gold star

An acceptable foundation but this wasn’t exactly interesting in any way.

Skrillex - Don't Get Too Close

I honestly didn’t dislike this as much as I thought I would, the first two tracks were very solid and the rest were mostly listenable with a couple that I definitely won’t return to. Not as bad as everyone else is saying in my opinion.

Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!
95

Simply beautifully enchanting. Lana has a knack for amazing songwriting that feels incredibly unique, paired with gorgeous vocals and ethereal instrumentation.

P!nk - TRUSTFALL
40

Fairly boring and uninteresting, there’s nothing atrocious about this necessarily but just incredibly bland.

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
80

I wasn’t feeling this for a little while, but I can really appreciate the art poppy atmosphere that Caroline paints. My only issues are that it can get repetitive and uninteresting at times and I’m not always a fan of her annunciation and stylistic vocal delivery choices.

Clairo - Immunity
75

Some absolute gems (Alewife, Impossible, Bags and Sofia) encompassed by average-mediocre sounds with grating autotune.

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
95

This really is a masterpiece that explains a lot about Kanye but also is interesting when applied to the context of the real world. A masterclass in production and song writing.

Tyler, The Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST
90

A very slick return to Tyler rapping at/near his best. Some amazing vibes throughout the project with a dynamic track-list and interest changes in pace to keep their listener entertained. Getting lost in this project is quite enjoyable (no pun intended). My only issue is that some lyrics feel wonky

Eminem - The Eminem Show
80

Eminem’s best work, an absolute classic with almost no bad tracks. It’s consistently a fun listen and restores my belief that Eminem is capable of making good music after you hear all of his music post encore (excluding MMLP2 that was ok).

Eminem - Encore
40

Following the eminem show, this album had all the marks of being another success; but it was a total flop, with half the album being genuinely unlistenable. The only reason this is somewhat close to being a 5/10 is the hidden gems on it including Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soldiers, and Mockingbird.

Yo La Tengo - This Stupid World
55

For the most part, this is a snooze fest with nothing really interesting occurring throughout the listen. The soundscape is somewhat interesting and I can see it working well in other contexts of media, but just as the music I didn’t really enjoy this that much.

Paramore - This Is Why
80

A great rock album with zero misses. Paramore’s ‘This Is Why’ doesn’t feel dated, nor does it feel like a cheap attempt to succeed in the modern climate. A well thought out project sonically lyrically and thematically, my only issues are that some songs feel slightly empty, as well as a not as strong vocal performance compared to some of Paramore’s past work. The closer track ‘Thick Skull’ was by far the best.
