Even with the departure of their lead singer and a major factor of their 2022 success with AFUT, this still feels incredibly Bcnr and incredibly good. The instrumentation is so emotionally potent throughout, especially Turbines/Pigs which may be the best song I’ve heard this year so far. The saxophone is just so damn beautiful and the fact that this was performed live blows my mind.
Maybe one of my more controversial ratings of 2023, I don’t think this is as good as everyone else is saying. It’s a genuinely fun and interesting messy experience with unique production, and overall I don’t mind the mixing. I think the amount of noise that is going on for the entirety of this makes it a bit convoluted and hard to really stomach properly (or im just old). There were certain parts where the mixing annoyed me though, I must say.
This wasn’t as bad as I was expecting; there’s basically no substance to it (apart from illicit substances of course) but it’s still a bit fun, and at times so bad that it’s a little bit fun and enjoyable.
This was very atmospherically and also more lyrically interesting than I thought it would be. With an incredible voice, the weeknd really nails that Lo-fi slow core sound with complimentary production. My only issues are that pacing feels off at times, and some cuts can be largely uninteresting.
While this has some absolutely killer tracks like Born to die, Video games and summer time sadness, a lot of the other songs don’t quite live up to the beautiful elegance. Still a solid listen, there’s a few stylistic delivery choices I didn’t like as much and a weaker track here and there but that’s all really.
I’m actually quite impressed by this. A lot of the instrumentals are gorgeous and genuinely transformative. The production is stellar and no doubt propels the record forward. My main issue is that it feels to safe; Rockatoxx doesn’t seem to do much more with a lot of these potential heavy instrumentals than rap with a very similar flow and lyrics that are ok but nothing to write home about. I would have loved to see some more experimentation and singing parts, some of the background ... read more
Very enjoyable listen, so many interesting and unique instrumental choices that really made this cohesive and a transportive experience. Definitely one of the highlights of 2023 thus far
It’s fun and enjoyable, but too often it strays the line of being interesting to down right annoying. Some wasted ideas, but overall it is a decent listen for hyperpop fans
This is such an iconic listen, Kanye’s production is absolutely outstanding and ahead of its time. It’s thematically interesting and I don’t feel that the skits take too much away from the quality. Some tracks are slightly weaker which is why I haven’t rated it higher, but overall this is an incredibly solid listen and one of the best debut rap albums.
This isn’t 100 because it’s the most technical perfect music. It’s a haunting journey that transcends being an album or just a collection of songs in general. Phil’s vocals and lyrics are enchantingly emotive, and the production compliments his voice perfectly. The whole thing is tough to stomach in one listen, but it genuinely makes me feel a certain way that not any other album as of yet has recreated.
This had some interesting ideas and great peaks (notably Even it out), but there were a lot of concepts that didn’t seem to land or strike me in any meaningful way.
Flowers gave me real hope for this record, but unfortunately the majority of it doesn’t get anywhere near close. It’s still ok, the production can be quite texturally beautiful at other times, but overall it feels overdone and incredibly derivative.
This genuinely wasn’t as bad as I expected, there were a decent amount of moments and one or two tracks that I genuinely enjoyed. Nothing extremely offensive for the most part, but plenty of average-very mediocre showings.
Very interesting soundscape, some parts didn’t quite click like others but I can definitely see this as a great soundtrack for a horror/psychological movie
There’s a few tracks on here that I really vibe to, but the rest is fairly boring and uninteresting. Average performances, decent features for the most part, and slick instrumental, but at the end of the day it’s 80% background music.
A well thought out exploration of many emotions that are heavily relatable. There is nothing to fault about Kendrick’s performances, the only issues I have with this is that some tracks feel slightly weaker and could have had some improvement.
Words can’t describe how this album makes me feel. The instrumentation feels so emotional and inspiring, it brings chills everytime I listen. A beautiful storyline complimented by heart wrenching and emotional performances, this is one of if not the best indie rock album of all time.
I don’t really see the vision, some interesting moments but it doesn’t all connect for me personally.
