Talking Heads - Remain in Light
98

Even with that creepy ass album cover, Remain in Light “remains” one of my favorite albums ever.
Talking Heads, with help from airport enthusiasts, Brian Eno, pulled off one of history’s greatest production circle jerks to complete one of the most unique pieces of music from the 80’s, maybe of all time. This irresistible fusion of Afro-beat and post punk is just so well done, and it’s immediately obvious as soon as the opener, Born Under Punches, kicks in, with ... read more

Beach House - Bloom
85

One of my favorite dream pop records of all time! Bloom is so greatly sequenced, produced, sung, and only gets better with each listen. It’s so intricately layered to a point where past listen 20, I’m still finding new details in these 10 masterful songs.
Favorite songs here are Troublemaker, Myth, and The Hours.

Can’t say I appreciate the long silence in the middle of Irene tho 😭

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)
89

Very horny gay furry album.
It’s like it was made for me 🥲.
In all seriousness, the 2018 rendition of bandcamp classic Twin Fantasy serves as Will Toledos magnum opus, and one of the best indie rock albums of the 2010’s. This is an album with very few lows and extremely high highs. Songs like Bodys and Beach Life-In-Death are some of my favorite songs of all time, and I’m also particularly smitten for Sober to Death and High to Death.
I’m not completely sold on Cute ... read more

TOOL - Lateralus
89

I crashed my car listening to Schism.
Really like the album tho, best Tool album ☺️

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
96

Jeff Mangum and company pull together a near perfect indie folk album about the holocaust. Or at least that’s what I believe, because the songs here are so spellbinding and winding that any concrete interpretation is impossible. Some of the most unique lyricism I’ve ever heard for sure, coupled with a near-cold tone in the instrumentation, despite the intimate choices in it. It’s certainly sad, but not necessarily cynical, and in its more upbeat moments, there’s still ... read more

Mitchbhl - Grain Of All Odds
35

Much like a moth to a flame, @ronania took to comment on one of my reviews, and brought forth an interesting, and silently thrilling proposition, that being this album. I had no context, no background info regarding the artist, so honestly, I was expecting a lousy, horrible produced, neasueatingly sung crop of tracks to be forgotten in some early artists catalog. Instead, I received a life altering l, spiritual experience that nearly made me a born again Christian. This is one of the greatest ... read more

Deftones - Gore
45

I really don’t like it.

Deftones - White Pony
92

I really like it 😊

Alter Bridge - Alter Bridge
60

Sorry sports fans, this album is striking a core of mid and commercialism I can’t quite endorse. I can appreciate the guitar work at points and respectable vocals, but it’s very samey and borderline radio slop. Aside from my WWE nostalgia, this band doesn’t really do it ._.

Geese - Getting Killed
85

Certainly a step up from 3D Country, which is really saying something. Love when Cameron Winter gets frantic lol.

Racing Mount Pleasant - Racing Mount Pleasant
85

When I first listened to this album (back when it first came out) I was a bit disappointed. I thought it sounded exactly like Ants From Up There, and this band clearly wears their influences on their sleeves, to a point where I didn’t think they had a very distinct sound. When I re-listened to it recently, I came out of it once again thinking it sounded like Ants From Up There, and I loved it. The band achieves the sonic bliss BCNR achieved in 2022, with a more comfy and intimate style. ... read more

Björk - Vespertine
90

Bjork seamlessly strikes a universal balance between brilliance, epicness, and beauty on Vespertine. The G.O.A.T Bjork project (in my humble opinion), fantastic shit that keeps up its stellar chilly production while Bjork keeps up her fantastic vocals. I find the more hushed cuts a slight inferior to the more epic cuts, but that’s just a slight personal gripe, practically flawless project

Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
89

Personal favorite QOTSA album with their best song (I Appear Missing). Very tight and consistent track list with no skips to be seen. Sounds very different to other popular projects like Songs For The Deaf and is more vulnerable and quiet in comparison.

Ween - Quebec
100

This is a god send from the highest body that governs the universe, it revealed itself in 2 mortals from our plane of existence, that of Gene and Dean Ween, and delivered to us a gift to cleanse our souls of vice and weakness, a gift mankind is to be forever humble for. This heavenly crusade enacted on our small home planet takes form in Quebec, which is 14 masterfully crafted songs (+ a Tom McDonald feature on The Fucked Jam) that conjure dozens of different musical pictures and span across an ... read more

Sunny Day Real Estate - How It Feels to Be Something On
73

I like it, maybe even love it, but this album is really carried by its heavy hitters (Pillars) and the deep cuts don’t really resonate with me or have nearly as much replay value. Sunny Day Real Estate reforming is surely an act of god, but I still prefer Diary. Pillars is still an absolute banga tho

Best Songs: Pillars, Guitars and Video Games, Every Shining Time you Arrive

Merzbow - Pulse Demon
35

Although the agonizing noises are certainly “rough” on the ears, and the drawn out songs make this feel like a fucking eternity, I’m willing to give art its credit, and I’ve found a few things this albums IS good at:

1. Drowning out the noise of your parents divorcing
2. Having a fire album cover
3. Replacement for any Tones and I song
4. Inducing early onset tinnitus

Boris - flood
90

Absolute fantastic use of an hour! Although my house is underwater now 🫤

Elliott Smith - Figure 8
93

Though the universal admiration for projects like Either/Or or the self titled is understandable, and certainly shared by me, Figure 8 has remained my Elliot Smith album of choice. It’s just so peak the whole way through. The instrumentation is his best, his most realized, his most complex. The structure of these 16 songs reaches orgasmic points, like the electric guitar bridge in opener Son of Sam, the pure rock chorus of L.A, or the the amazing builds in Can’t Make a Sound or ... read more

Yea Big - Visitor
75

Very surprising release from Yea Big, who deliver a very cohesive and immersive experience. I like how the songs tend to blend into each other, and the hushed vocals compliment the instrumentation very well hear. But it is a bit boring, and not really my genre of choice, I can understand any love this album might receive further down, but it’s not top priority for me. Still, quite good

Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
78

Always found this to be just a dash over rated. I think it’s an extremely well put together and respectable album with great standouts, but in overall presentation I fall a bit numb (and asleep) to its more drawn out, repetitive aspects. With that being said, I adore the lions share of this album, and tracks like Trailer Trash, Heart Cooks Brain, and Convenient Parking are probably just flat out my fav Mouse tracks, and some of my favorite in the genre, period.
