So, out of all four of Ne O's albums, this is the one I've listened to the least. I didn't know why at first, especially since this album rips so fucking hard. Sitting down and thinking about it, I think it's because it doesn't have the big, epic, career-defining moments like the other three do.
Thinking about it, "Portal of I," "Citadel," and "Exul" all have one superb standout moment that keeps me coming back to them.
With that said, ... read more
I'm scratching my head on how to go about dissecting this one. There are six songs, but it's structured as if there are only three. What I am going to do is discuss this as if there are only three songs, as half of the tracklist consists of instrumental interludes.
Cool? Cool.
"Citadel" kicks a lot of ass and addresses my nitpicks from the band's debut. However, this album introduces a new problem: the instrumentals.
There is no better point to start than with ... read more
So I've been coming back and listening to each album by Ne O again since I will be seeing them live in a few months. With this comes an opportunity to provide more in-depth reviews for these albums as this is a band I like quite a lot.
Portal of I is a pretty damn good debut album. The band really came out swinging with this album, even if it is a bit messy.
"Tapestry of the Starless Abstract" does a good job setting the lister up for what they can expect from the album. The ... read more
It's pretty neat. It's a lot of things I've heard before, but a finely tuned version of it.
I didn't love this as much as the previous two albums in this trilogy, but it still has some awesome moments that continues to prove why KENTUCKY IS THE BEST.
RAHHHHHHHHH KENTUCKY ON TOP. 🐎🐎🌽🌽🐔🐔
Widowmaker is so unbelievably good it makes the album worse in comparison. That scream 40 seconds in is fucking nuts.
This is an exaggeration, but I do think the album peaks with this song. That said, the rest of the album is really solid. I can't say there is any song on here I actively dislike. This album kicks ass and I'm kicking myself for not checking these guys out earlier.
I was very tempted to give this a perfect score when I started listening to this one as the first 5 songs are all increadible. Easily the best music I've heard from Panopticon.
I decided against it because I don't really care for the last 3 songs all to much. I just didn't find them to be nearly as good.
Still, this album is really great and is some of the best black metal I've ever heard. It really cements my love for this band.
KENTUCKY ON TOP!!!
Can't believe one of the most beautiful and groundbreaking guitar solos of all time is on a song called "Fermented Offal Discharge."
As kick-ass it gets at some points, most of the time I found this album to be really fucking corny. To be fair, an album called "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" is tounge-and-cheek enough for me to let it slide, for now.
You win this time Candlemass, but you're on thin ice.
The album cover is my brain trying to wrap itself around these nasty riffs.
This album goes INSANELY HARD. It's guitar wizardry/ noodling wankery in the best form. It's creative, it flows really well, and it kicks ASS. Really happy I stumbled across this hidden gem.
Some pretty beefy walls of sound that really make FEEL like the whale. Quite a stark difference between other whale-type metal where you are either hunting it or worshipping it.
His chiseled jawline makes me incredibly uncomfortable. I hope he doesn't end up being an evil emo twink like those who've come before him.
The music is fine. it's perfectly serviceable pop music. I doubt I see myself coming back to it, but I had a decent time listening to it though.
I was playing Project Zomboid while listing to this album and I was to focused on the music, so much so I wasn't paying attention when a zombie came up and bit me (essentially meaning instant death for those who have not played).
I decided to get my things in order so when my next character came into play I would be ready for it, and brother, the final tack being the soundtrack of my character dying and going out on their own terms was so fitting and melancholic. I can't believe ... read more
I am filled with overwhelming pride as a Kentucky citizen. I'm going to go knaw on some corn now.
Ya'll to afraid to be corny. Me? I was born on the cob.
I find this to be a very powerful album. How angry and sad it is with its subject matter isn't something you see very often. However, when you do, you know it's going to be some of the best stuff you'll ever hear. It's one thing to have wonderful sounding music, but it's a whole lot more fulfilling when the ... read more
A very pretty album, but a very one-note one as well.
That isn't inherently a bad thing. if you love this sound, then you'll be eating good the entire runtime. For me, I think it's pretty alright.
That feeling when you fall down the stairs and you lay there on the floor collecting yourself.
Once you finally get up the opening riff of "Never Meant" plays.
Those opening riffs on "Bored" got me geeking like a Midwest crackhead like DAMN.
ОГНЕННЫЙ ШАР!! (∩`-´)⊃━☆゚.*・。゚🌠🔥💥
This one took me a while before I really began to love it. It doesn't give me the same "FUCK YEAH" feeling that the three previous albums did. This one was slower and didn't have the same edge.
However, that edge is replaced with slower, more impactful hard-hitting moments. This album is absolutely bonkers and really is the band at their best. The creativity mixed with their trademark sound ... read more
Maybe you've finally brought justice to true evil within the city: once and for all.
But let's be honest... you haven't changed a thing.
