Going back to this album in preparation for GRIZZLY next month made me realize how much I overrated this album. Listening to it front-to-back was not as fun as I hoped it would be.
I think the main reason for that is that Bonebreaker is a pretty fun song. It was the song I remembered the most when listening to this thing and still is the only one I wish to come back to. The rest of the songs on here suck major ass.
Now, I will defend the album here. People are saying this is wife beater/male ... read more
I wish it hit me in the jaw harder with it's kickass metal sections, but all is forgiven with the caveman breakdowns.
AGAGABOOAGAGABOOAGAGA AGAGABOOAGAGABOOAGAGA
I've been working my way through this thing for the last month. As much as I've been trying to sit down and listen to it all in one sitting, it's been hard to do so due to its soundscape and length. I finally was able to do it the other day, so I can now say my piece about it.
I will express my qualms with this album soon, but I want to state that I don't think this is a bad album. This project uses noise and atmosphere really well to display its emotional truth and I ... read more
I always found Blackbraid to be on of the more interesting 'modern' black metal bands and I'm excited to see they are releasing more music.
This song is alright. It doesn't really show off their genre-blending stuff I enjoy that well and is more of a straight metal banger song, which is fine.
Bonus points for the pretty album cover and the bonkers guitar solo.
Been listening to this one again a few time over the last month and I decided to give it a bit more love. This really is the album where the band really began to release GREAT stuff. It’s so over-the-top and disgusting, but it’s also very unique. The guitar tone is clean, but riffs are nasty. The drumming is STUPID with a pretty funny snare. The vocals are insane. Not a lot of death metal sounds like this and it is a part of the reason it keeps me coming back.
Listening to this on the loudest speakers in my house radicalized my dog.
I feel… strange and conflicted.
This is certainly a grand and eerie album. 2 hours and 20 minutes is a major commitment, and I think this length is an overall benefit to the album as it adds to this feeling of unease the record is known for.
I think my feeling of confliction comes from the attitude and perception this album gets. For chronically online music fans (no shade, I’m one of you), this is THE album. This album is put on such a high pedestal by people that, I'm ... read more
PROCEEDS THE WEEDIAN. NAZARETH
I wasn’t high when I listened to this, but I was very sleep deprived, and that’s in the same ballpark so that allowed me to reach the desired state to listen to this.
I wasn’t a big fan of Hot Lava Man, but I was was of the title track. It shouldn’t work. One hour of the same riff, but it does. I was hypnotized by this song and its droning, repetitive nature. Not my favorite doom metal album to do this, but still a great one nevertheless.
So today is a big day for my unemployed ass. Not only is this my 500th review, but today is my one-year anniversary of starting my AoTY account. Thank you all for being so welcoming and following my varying quality of reviews. Here is to another year!
So, sitting here, I thought we would celebrate by talking about one of the greatest pieces of comedy ever released: My Mine.
No joke, this album is a work of comedic genius. Not only does MCAP Steve rewrite 15 songs and make them ... read more
Damn, the ring on the snare is enough to elevate this to being one of the band's best songs.
I've been pretty tough on Lorna Shore. Even though I find them to be one of the best modern deathcore bands, I still find issues with a lot of their songs just devolving into what I call 'note salad,' meaning instead of really being heavy, the band just playes heavhy and fast without all of the elements that make the music "feel" heavy.
I find that this song addresses ... read more
In 2023, I had the joy of seeing Lorna Shore live in Atlanta, Georgia, with my dad. It was a triple-header concert with them, Gojira, and Mastodon. It’s still to this day the best concert I’ve been to.
All of the songs they played were off this album, and I really enjoyed them. They included all three singles and the entirety of the title track. It was really great, and Ramos’s stage presence was killer/wholesome.
I’m saying all of this to say that I don't really ... read more
I am quite mixed. I really enjoy To The Hellfire, but not much of the other songs. There is nothing really inherently wrong with this project. It is technically quite a great EP.
However, I think listening to this type of deathcore over and over again loses its luster quite fast, mostly because it doesn’t really feel heavy. It’s just fast and loud.
I will give bonus points to Will Ramos for being one of the best vocalists in the genre.
This is art for people who want their music to say absolutely nothing.
People have pointed out that this alum is way longer than it should. The reason for that is so country radio stations will be packed with Wallen's new music. Alongside this, the more songs you have, the more potential for them to be streamed or put into streaming playlists. This wasn't made to portray something meaningful, thus the long length. No, it was made to squeeze out as much money as possible.

I don’t know if it was the headphones I was wearing or the album, but there were just long stretches of silence in multiple parts of the album. I wasn’t a huge fan as it really didn’t build to much after.
Besides that, this is pretty neat. I really enjoyed the first half’s high energy.
I fuck with this heavy.
Been on a sludge metal binge lately. It's a genre I've known about but didn't really respect. The genre actually rips so fucking hard as I found out with High on Fire's 2024 album Cometh The Storm.
I wanted to listen to this album next as I just really like the album cover. I like this more than Cometh The Storm! Vocals are powerful, riffs are brutal, and it's high-octane energy.
I would make a joke about chugging beers to this, but the front ... read more
Pack it up everyone. This is the ultimate album cover. We can go nowhere but down after this.
I had a really fun time this this. It does get a bit to goofy at some moments where it derails the music, but I can't say it effected my listening experience that much.
Blue balls, the album.
I'm not exactly a Sleep Token hater. I like "The Summoning," "Vore," and "Rain" quite a bit as those are songs that really highlight the band's creativity when making metal songs. However, I find their approach to pop to be really fucking terrible as it is bland and sterile. The issue is I would argue Sleep Token is more of a pop band than a metal band, leading me to really dislike most of their stuff.
This album is no exception, ... read more
ROKE UP IN THE WRONG HOOD is the national anthem for 18-35 year old white males across the U.S.
This is a slight step back from Discouraged Ones. It doesn't feel as full or cohesive as that album did.
I do find the vocals to be better though, so maybe we are stepping in the right direction.
I feel like the biggest freak listening to this, but in like a cool way. Like, I want to bump this at a public park while I day drink and smoke ciggies.
I will be unemployed soon, so this is a real possibility that may happen.
