Geordie Greep - The New Sound
100

I get that this makes me sound like a snob, but my favorite albums tend to be very eclectic, drawing inspiration from many different sources. I also love loud & complex jazz-rock, songs longer than 8 minutes, and absurd lyricism. So it's no wonder that Greep knocked it out of the park on this album, at least for me.

The New Sound is a modern masterpiece. There are so many different dimensions to this album and I find myself appreciating all of them. It knows when to be loud, abrasive, ... read more

Childish Gambino - Bando Stone and The New World
63

Gambino somehow managed to make a messier album than 3.15.20.

There are some highlights like Lithonia, which combines gambino's typical nihilistic outlook with early 2000s rock aesthetics. I really like the slightly noticeable autotune on his vocals (at least I think that's what I'm hearing) and the frequent instrumental cuts when he delivers certain lines. It really adds a unique vibe to what could otherwise have been a very derivative "rappers first alt rock" track ... read more

Ugly - Twice Around The Sun
91

One of the most creative albums/EPs I've heard in a while. It's a very rare occurrence that I listen to an album and every song feels like something I've never heard before, and each for a different reason. I really enjoy the combination of fun upbeat rock with folk elements as well.

Nadine Shah - Filthy Underneath
47

The opener made me think I was in for something sick, but almost every track after it feels like it overstays its welcome. I do like the way the synths and the drums sound production-wise but it doesn't feel like they're being used to make anything interesting

glass beach - plastic death
94

very sonically bright and colorful rock album with really solid pacing. their last album was emo in the kinda cringe way but this one is emo in the non cringe way i think. huge improvement in all areas

Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul
80

that rice guy was right

Avenade - Our Raging God Unknown to Us
100

some of the loudest and most overwhelming music ive ever heard, but still manages to be somewhat fun and catchy. Part of me does miss the stylistic diversity that 'vice versa in such things' had - whereas this album stays more firmly in the metal genre - but its more than made up for here by the quality of these tracks. Avenade's best album so far in my opinion

Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
85

every time i relisten to this album it goes up 5 points

NR

Swans' latest album, "The Beggar" is both a harrowing and inspiring examination of the topics of Life, Death, and Alcoholism.

Michael Gira uses his brutal, unsettling song writing and dense yet simple instrumentation to craft one of the most harrowing musical experiences of the year. At the same time though, The Beggar can also be rather uplifting and optimistic. Tracks like "Michael is Done" and "No More Of This" use their lush, beautiful atmospheres to sell a ... read more

Foo Fighters - But Here We Are

The Murder Capital - Gigi's Recovery

another mid post punk album to add to my collection

Valéria Almeida - SILENT

this is probably the worst album ive ever listened to. usually "bad albums" tend to get boring for me like halfway through, i get numb to how bad it sounds and convince myself that its actually somewhat listenable. but this album manages to stay entertainingly horrible for its full 20 minute runtime. every minute is more deranged than the last

Viagra Boys - Cave World
83

theyre called the viagra boys because this shit fucks hard

sometimes the quirky "LOL return to monke xD" stuff is a bit much but at some points it hits just right. aint no thief is definitely a contender for song of the year

Joji - SMITHEREENS
60

I really like joji's music. Everything about his style, vocals, the smooth and vibey production, his melodies, it all very much speaks to me. It doesn't take a lot for him to win me over, pretty much all he needs to do is actually finish a song.

Which brings us to the main problem here - this album doesn't feel finished. So many tracks come so close to being really good, but ultimately fall flat due to a lack of substance. This is especially bad on the 2nd half, where the tracks don't have ... read more

Swans - To Be Kind
100

The first time I listened to To Be Kind was in February of 2021. All I knew about the album was that it was 2 hours long, and fantano gave it a 10. I found Screen Shot's opening riff to be enticing, and the slow build up was unlike anything I had heard before, but for the most part my enjoyment of the album didn't go beyond a surface level appreciation.

Flash forward to one year later, February of 2022, where I listened to the album for a second time - this time, in the context of me ... read more

Liturgy - The Ark Work

this sounds so trash but in a good way

Taylor Swift - Midnights
45

The minimalist production is pretty nice and consistent, but it requires that taylor carries most of the album herself with her charisma and personality, and i frankly just dont find her to be all that likable on most of these songs.

*loud knocking*
*muffled screams*
*the sound of duct tape being ripped off*

uh sorry, what i meant to say is that taylor herself here is amazing. i just wish she wouldnt work with talentless hacks like jack antonoff. that guy ruins every album he touches. anyway, ... read more

"small note but its not actually accurate to say that these tracks were "reworked" for Birthing. Birthing was written & recorded over the course of this tour, and this was the last show, so these versions are if anything "reworked" from the Birthing versions. Gira has described the songs as being in the process of self imploding (or something like that) at this point in the tour"

"calling him an asshole because he 1. "only let danny shine for a minute" (you are assuming that was his choice and not danny's for literally 0 reason im guessing?) 2. recycled some old tracks (as if that makes them less legitimate somehow? artists do this all the time) and 3. put his face on the cover. I agree that its not a very good cover in this context but its literally the alternate vinyl cover. The front is peggy and the back is danny, i agree that it doesnt work great as a cover for that reason but pretending that its peggy tryna take the spotlight off of danny is frankly delusional"
