I'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE
An experimental 10-minute Lo-fi Hip Hop opus that for my money is the most accurate representation of how depression feels. It all just comes together so well; the varying, heavily abstract instrumental soundscapes, Earl's devastatingly sharp lyrics («I'm the youngest old man that you know», that lyric about him having his grandma's hands), that final section that sounds like trying to craft something beautiful while you're at the ... read more
This guy is genuinely incredible. The fact that he went from stuff like freaking «BEAMIN'» to making what is absolutely my favorite three-album run of all time is just awesome. Was of course stunned by this album on a first listen - it's an immaculately made journey of an album, and the fact that everything here is produced, written, and orchestrated by a 24-year-old is absurd - but I was also afraid that perhaps it wouldn't hold as much personal resonance with me as ... read more

Based on the vibe of the album cover, this is pretty much what I hoped for! An unapologetically weird, zany, colorful West Coast Hip Hop album that bangs front to back. Some angelic production too! Obviously not a magnum opus or a conceptual masterpiece, but it's clearly not trying to be; it's just trying to have fun, which it succeeds in really, really well. I really love the whole aesthetic of this new era though, especially with the "Stop Playing With Me" music video that ... read more
