The charm and enthusiasm that once made Chance one of the most exciting upcoming figures in hip-hop has almost completely faded over the near-decade since his last quality release. STAR LINE becomes a chore to listen to, and even Chance doesn't seem to be interested in most of it. Still, "The Highs & The Lows" and "Letters" are clear standouts that offer some value to the tracklist.
Purple Mountains features all of David Berman's usual cynicism but circumvents his usual poetic prose for one succinct, devastating line after another. Of course the circumstances surrounding this record effect it's perception, but it doesn't change it's quality. It feels like Berman at his most honest and vulnerable.
The final installment in The Weeknd’s final trilogy is also, unfortunately, the weakest.
