When the production is at its best Kanye makes sure to drop a stupid bar to remind you where you are

Carter Ace - SEASON ONE

A very fun album with tons of charisma and smooth melodies, but maybe lacking a bit of the creativity and alternative flair that made The One and Lonely EP such a standout.

Swans - The Great Annihilator
90

Monstrous rock echoing upon the walls of the highest ceilinged cathedral. Rock that consumes the light and weighs the soul. Pure cataclysm set to recon with God themself.

Dope Body - Natural History

A delicious batch of skuzzy, bombastic, noise rock fun

Mos Def - The New Danger

Mos Def's passions for funk, rock, and soul smother some of his greatest talents. While Mos Def's clear love of these genres seemed to add to the creativity, punchiness, and expressiveness of Black on Both Sides it somewhat envelopes the sound of this album to the point of stifling it. There are certainly grooves but Mos Def's amazing rapping in set aside for not particularly boundary pushing sounds. I still like it but it feels like a lack luster attempt to engage with these ... read more

Kamasi Washington - Fearless Movement

Despite some very high highs with Lesanu, The Garden Path, Road to Self (KO) and Prologue I was mildly disappointed by this album. The moments that aren't highlights have a variety of my least favorite traits in Kamasi's music. The rapping on Asha The First and Get Lit is very corny to me or at least not very impressive. Computer Love is a whatever cover that I'm not a huge fan of. Glad to see a lot of people getting put onto Kamasi with this album being a bit more user-friendly ... read more

Portishead - Dummy

Sometimes I think damn.. do I only like music that is INSANE and has A Million THings Going on At ONce? This album proves that the answer is no. Simple but effective is the core of this album. But despite the often very quiet production this album is just about overflowing with some of the heart wrenching emotion ever expressed.

Charli xcx - BRAT

Kinda Long BRAT Review

I was VERY scared for this album.

Charli had one of the greatest musical evolutions of all time going from making some of the most unbearable and dull 2000s electro-pop into being a futuristic, boundary breaking pioneer for pop. This culminated in Charli, a true landmark for pop music evolution and so good that I still can’t decide if it's a 99 or a 100. This run was held strong with how im feeling now which kept most of what made Charli great. However I was ... read more

"I totally understand what you mean when you talk about patience. I had a very similar experience attempting to listen to Swans To Be Kind and only later being able to finish it and love it. Having that experience before listening to IRA is probably what made this such an easy listen for me personally. It is truly a profound experience to have in terms of learning and growing in your ability to consume art. I will fight you a little bit because this album has also had a life changing effect on me. This album may be the single most inspiring piece of art I have ever experienced. I have thought about this album every single day since finishing it because every day I feel a fundamental Need to make music like this. It truly is a special album."
On Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de GrĂ¢ce)
"@Mychal I've listened to his back catalogue Extensively, trust. This is the same lines about pronouns and Caitlyn Jenner for like 10 songs. Don't worry girl, I get it. The idea of slim shady doesn't just go over my head. Like I said Guilty Conscious 2 was decent cause it was the actual "Death" part of that concept. The rest is just an attempt to adapt slim shady to the modern day and failing miserably. He sounds like an "anti-sjw" edgelord in a Rainbow 6 lobby. It's just corny and cringe"

"Great breakdown of the album"
On Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
"@Dallamalla For me touching a good amount of other genres doesn't always mean that it's diverse. Yes it hits on pop, altpop, electronic, indie, synthpop, even a bit of rock, etc. But to me a lot of the diversity in that kinda gets washed away under the soft alt pop style. It all has a cool soft blue filter over it. It takes a lot of different inspirations but makes them more one note. And that may not be a bad thing cause with some albums it can make them cohesive, which it does do here, but I also think it takes away the flavor of those influences. To again reference the synths on Chihiro, they stand out on the album, but there's just not that much more to them outside the soft pop sound, ie not much diversity."
