This album is a beast, from the personality, to the extremely dark tone, to the intense lyrics. DMX shows up and shows out for with more personality and charisma than 50 Cent could even dream of. And an ear for beats that stand out as uniquely dark and hard hitting.
Speakerboxxx has a bunch of fun bops. But The Love Below is honestly a musical gem. The closest thing we will ever get to a solo Andre project and it's amazing. Jazz, soul, funk fusion with some amazing production. All n all this album is Filled with the personality, experimentation, and Funk that makes Outkast so great.
Another insane 3 track run from the duo, and the rest of the album delivers a whole lot of kick and funk to go with it
The writing is certainly poignant and interesting, but the instrumentation is just a bit too subdued for me. I wish the crescendos were where most of the record was at normally and then went even higher. It all sounds good it's just a little lacking for me especially when the songs last as long as they do.
Good vocals and solid instrumentation all push this above the average indie pop slop, but the lack of highlights and anything super ambitious or creative hold it back from being something I can say I really like. There's just nothing extraordinary about it for me. But again, solid vocals and instrumentation that make it better than most of it's contemporaries
Listened to this album after listening to a 50 minute bedroom pop album. Best 20 minutes of my life.
Me trying to hit the fattest whip
Edit: (85 -> 88): As harrowing as it is darkly beautiful.
I mean I like it I do....
Highlights are So Real and Lover, You Should've Come Over
Music that's this chill and this quiet but also this good is rare.
Why do ya'll even listen if you fundamentally don't like harsh noise nor even agree with it as music. Like if it's an area you know you just cannot find any appreciation in then I don't get reviewing it. Anyways this album is amazing. Victoria Shen is a genius and punk as fuck. The textures are immaculate. There's so much movement and variation in the density and feeling of the noise, especially in the back half. Standouts are Under The Stall Door, Bolete, Lissajous, ... read more
