I know that nobody actually reads my reviews but I would like to apologize (to myself at least) about the schedule, or lack there of, when it comes to listening and reviewing albums. It's been a busy time lately.
Anyway, so "Melodrama" is... good. Really good actually, i like just how off the wall it can be at times with weird genre blending and just random sounds and effects. I noticed that it's produced by Jack Antonoff which i know can be a turn off for some people but ... read more
A really good, really short record by the ever so charismatic Pusha T.
I have to say, while I'm a big fan of the confidence that Push brings and the impeccable production by Kanye, this style of gangsta, hardcore hip-hop is not really up my alley. That said I did enjoy the record and I can't deny it's quality. It's a solid listen, and if you're into this kind of style you'll definitely love it
Favorite tracks: "If You Know You know", "Hard ... read more
Ok, who's the DUMBASS that uploaded the wrong tracklist order?? (It's me, sorry about that)
I figured it's finnaly time that i actually listen to this project in full and, since i already knew and liked a good chunk of the songs, i was not disappointed.
I'd say it stays pretty consistent quality wise throughout the whole runtime, maybe dipping a bit with "Petrecerea secolului" which, don't get me wrong, is a banger, but not at the level of the other ... read more
Why did i wait on this one for so long?
I really liked "Currents". The drums, bass, synth lines are so head-melting, mind-warpingly great it just makes you feel so good. The whole story and progression, while I don't think i fully understood it, is still executed so well and is so intricately connected within the whole record.
Overall, it's just a really good album, the only downside would be that i can't really see myself listening to individual tracks by themselves, ... read more
I guess I'm in the minority that doesn't think this is their best album :/
That said i do still like "Trench". I like the synth, kinda trippy sound. I wouldn't call it psychedelic necessarily but it's clearly pulling some inspiration from that genre. One thing I'll say is the tracks more focused on rapping are honestly kinda lacking. I don't think Tyler's rapping is good enough to be the center point of a song but i don't mind it if it's ... read more
I don't even know what to rank this thing... i gotta be careful to avoid getting crucified.
What i will say about "Thriller" is that it's a damn great album, there's no doubt about that and the only reason it's not a 10/10 from me is because it didn't necessarily click with me on an emotional level (also i VERY rarely give out a 10/10 rating). Whatever i decide to rate this will be the absolute highest an album can get if i don't get emotionally attached ... read more
Ngl i listened to this quite a bit but it didn't really catch me. Don't get me wrong it's a good record, but it's not something I'll keep coming back to. It starts out pretty good but the second half kinda fals flat
Favorite tracks: "She Knows Too Much", "What Is Left To Say", "No More Lies"
Two Kendrick albums reviews back to back... what can i say he's my favorite artist.
Being his first studio album, "Section.80" is obviously not quite the achievement that his later albums would become, but it's still pretty good and holds up surprisingly well. There's some really great highs on here, like "Hol' Up" or "Keisha's Song", but honestly most of the songs, in my opinion, are good, but not something to write home about, i mean for ... read more
At this point it feels redundant to even review a Kendrick Lamar album, you know it's great, I know it's great, we can all agree on that, however, "good kid, m.A.A.d city" is a little different from the rest of his discography in that, while records like "To Pimp A Butterfly" and "DAMN." are celebrated for their high amount of double meanings and clever wordplay, this album gets its flowers for the total opposite reason: it's blunt, it tells you ... read more
PLASTIC BEACH 2 IS HERE!!!
In al seriousness tho, 'The Mountain' finds Gorillaz in an interesting place, taking inspiration from a number of different cultures, primarily Indian to create a record that feels... interesting. I would say the blend of so many different genres and languages is one of the biggest strengths of this album, giving it such a unique sound that rarely pops up in western media. Alongside that, the callbacks to "Plastic Beach" are quite obvious, with ... read more
What's y'all's problem with "Good Flirts?"
I did enjoy this album, it's a nice, short, fun listen, with some more introspective tracks as well. Not really a lot to say about it to be honest, if you keep yourself from comparing Baby Keem to his cousin Kendrick, then you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Favorite songs: "Ca$ino", "I am not a Lyricist", "Good Flirts"
Least favorite: "No security" (i guess, honestly they're ... read more
I liked it, very much reminiscent of "Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers", but that can't ever be a bad thing. My only problem is just how long it is (which is why this review took this long), I understand it's meant to have two sides exploring Cole's mentality at different times in his life, but you can do that in a shorter time span c'mon. As it stands I like most tracks, just not really anything that stands out for me.
Favorite songs: "Safety" "and ... read more
(Only reviewing the "Lana" part of the record)
Don't get me wrong, this is a good little collection of tracks or album or whatever it's supposed to be, but in terms of what I've heard from SZA, this is her weakest project. It's got some great songs like "30 for 30" and "BMF", and overall it's still good, but it doesn't reach the level of "SOS" and even "CTRL". Still a good listen don't get me wrong, but either ... read more
I'd say my expectations were met with "Don't Be Dumb", but it didn't wow me over or anything.
Coming off of "Testing" (even if it's after 8 years), this album still sees Rocky experimenting with different sounds and techniques, some of which turn out great, like "PUNK ROCKY" for example, some not so great, like "STFU". That said, there's still some good old fashioned rap bangers in here, like "ORDER OF PROTECTION" and ... read more
Paramore's self titled bridges the gap between their earlier work that was more focused on pop-punk and alternative rock, and their future projects (especially "After Laughter"), more-so fitting in the synth-pop and pop-rock genres. It's a project that blends both sounds together and, while they still had a ways to go growing out of their former emo shell, it's definitely a step in the right direction.
The record starts out very promising, with a strong stretch of 3 ... read more
I'm sorry for not getting this sooner.
First time listening to "Let God Sort Em Out" i turned it off after the first few tracks. After that, i found myself coming back to it, it grew on me more and more and now i finally get the hype behind it. This album doesn't need beat drops to feel massive, it's contagious confidence sells it. Evrry bar is masterfully crafted and there's probably tons of reference that flew right over my head. On top of that, all the features ... read more
I LOVE Succession. However, this is not a review of the show, but rather a review of the standalone soundtrack for season 1 and I have to say... I FUCKING LOVE the soundtrack.
There are mostly a handful of motifs and melodies that just keep being reused, but it's crazy just how much variety composer Nicholas Britell was able to get out of them. Even tho I wouldn't call myself a fan of classical, this record might have converted me into one, I love it's complexity and sheer power ... read more
This album is LOUD!!!
"brand new eyes" finds itself, in my opinion, at the very end of Paramore's maturing journey, certainly more cohesive than they're first two LPs, but not quite at the level they would reach from their self-title onward. As such, while there is definitely a lot to like here, there's some messiness. Some tracks tend to sound pretty similar to one another, there's some janky lyrics here and there, and the second half takes a noticeable dip in ... read more
Kendrick did it again. Who could believe it?
This is a very good project, that shouldn't be surprising, Kendrick Lamar is *the* guy when it comes to concept albums and on DAMN. we have one of his most intricate to date. The wickedness / weakness pattern, while really cool, is not the most mind-blowing thing for me, I would say it's much more impressive how this album flows both ways. You can listen to "DAMN." in either direction, and not only will the songs line up ... read more
I'm gonna try to keep the comparisons between "CTRL" and "SOS" to a minimum in this review, so I'm just saying it now, while i loved "CTRL", I still think "SOS" is the better project, that's just my very biased opinion tho, both of these albums are masterpieces and unique in their own ways.
While SZA didn't begin her career with "CTRL", it was her first studio album, and a very clear indicator that she is here to stay. The ... read more
