Goofy-ass music for a goofy-ass time. Technically good? Nope. But it's silly fun.
I remember very little of this album. If you like soul/Motown type stuff, you may dig this. It seems to be fairly good. I just don't listen to this stuff enough to properly review it.
How do we like our snares???
THIN AND TINNY
How do we like our guitars?
MEAN AND DISTORTED
How do we like our vocals?
PISSED AS FUCK
Being a fan of Jack White since I found his song "Over and Over and Over," and subsequently "Boarding House Reach," I was pleasantly surprised to see this album released only two years after Jack's double album drops. Although this album lacks a lot of the wacky experimentation I've come to expect from Jack on his previous albums, this project brings raw rambunctious Rock n Roll right to your musical rotation. With an distinct mix aesthetic, esoteric lyrics, and ... read more
Look, if you've seen my other Kiasmos reviews, you know I'm gonna glaze this. The only reason that I gave it a 95 is that I haven't relistened to it enough to warrant the 99 it may eventually get. Come this semester I will be listening to this constantly while doing homework, along with their other albums.
If you want to be pumped up, this is not the music to listen to. But, if you want to fall into the intangible beauty that is the "flow state," you ought to listen ... read more
I like metal and country independently of each other (including some pop country, ewwww, I know), and I tend to love genre combinations. Once I properly heard "BETTER HELL (Thicc Boi)," I was hooked. I do think it's more accurate to consider this more of a country album than a metal one, as the country and metal seem to be the foundation and embellishments of the album respectfully.
While most of these tracks are barn-stormers right out the gate, Johnny includes a few slower ... read more
My buddy told me to listen to this song since I hadn't heard of Sam Barber. The song itself is fine, but it isn't particularly special. It has fairly generic chord progression, and most of the lyrics are just repeated from the first verse/chorus go-round, even though the song is a whole 3 minutes. The instrumentation is decent and includes a nice little bit of banjo. The vocals (and the song in general) sound to me like a Zach Bryan imitation, which may be a good or bad thing ... read more
Look, I know Brat summer is the thing and all, but at least on my local pop radio station, this song was played much more than any songs from Brat. It took me a bit to mentally connect the dots between this song and all the Chappell memes I saw, but this song really is quite good and worth the hype.
It’s dramatic, it’s catchy, it’s passionate, it’s nostalgic. I especially enjoy how much Chappell put into her vocal performance, especially that “I told you ... read more
It’s a pretty chill listen, something that you could put on in the background while getting some work done. But, I do think listening with headphones adds extra reward as the mix on this album gives it a rather interesting aesthetic. It isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s a solid, enjoyable listen.
Dummy thicc riffs go brrr
Drums go bzbzbzbzbzbzbzb
Vocalist go eoueoughhhoughiughhhhhhh
My ears go :))))))))
I Write Sins Not Tragedies...
the sins in this case being bad songs...
I only like the song mentioned above and "There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of It Yet" for some reason that I can't actually pinpoint (ironically). I definitely thought this album was going to be better based off of the hit single, and it made my dishwashing session more lackluster than usual.
To think that Fall Out Boy dropped "From Under the ... read more
I enjoyed this album. It has enough variety to merit listening to the whole project, and there's some fun moments. I do wish the lyrics were a bit easier to understand without reading along, but it's deathcore so I'll give it a pass. Speaking of lyrics, most of them are full of Norse mythology, which I thought was pretty cool. I don't think this album necessarily does anything groundbreaking, but it's good at what it sets out to do.
Since this EP is only 4 tracks long, here's an individual ... read more
In general I am a fan of pop music more on the fringes of Top 40, ie. hyperpop, so I was mildly interested to see how an album from Tom Frane would be after I had already enjoyed "Stray Nights" and "Unstable." Well, I took one other song, "As It Is Right Now," and left the rest with Frane. I feel like while there are good ideas, the execution isn't fully there yet. There's some weird autotune oopsies, uninteresting production, and some
same-y vocal lines. ... read more
While rather short at only 6 songs, Samara Joy's "A Joyful Holiday" continues the undying tradition of jazz and Christmas music. Although this album doesn't bring anything especially groundbreaking to the table, it is undoubtedly high quality in both the vocals and instrumentation. Joy seems to aim at doing each familiar song justice as opposed to showing off the full extent of what her talented voice can do, and her band plays every note just right. I think the draw of this album is ... read more
This shit is so generic and boring that I can't believe in hindsight that I managed to listen to this whole album. I listened based off of the recommendation of a friend, and unsurprisingly I haven't enjoyed most of his recommendations since. (Love you tho bro). What is perhaps the most telling about this album is that not even a single song from it made it into my liked songs on Spotify, which is an incredibly low barrier to entry, considering I've liked over 12,000 songs...
TL;DR: It's just ... read more
It's a fun, cheesy banger meant for blasting at full volume down the highway. BABYMETAL and Electric Callboy fit quite well together on this track, and it allows both bands their own moments to shine. If you try to take this song seriously, you're completely missing the point. Just hit play and start dancing along!
ITS NOT FAAAAAAIIIIIRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
This song is pure ahhhhhh plus eeeeee plus sparkles. I love it.
It's Texas and gangster. I enjoyed this less than his previous album tbh. It ain't anything too special, but it's got some fun moments. Definitely more of a vibes/feelings type of album than a true artistic album experience. Less variety in the production than what I would like, but the beats usually hit. Same with the features, (except DaBaby).
