she thinks she's kendrick but she's actually kanye
her writing on this is abysmal. it's barely even writing and that's not me trying to hate but what made her so relatable before has been completely lost. the appeals to internet culture were vague enough that they could pass as timeless and survive as a commentary on modernist culture or something like that. lyrics like "girlbossed too close to the sun" and whatever eldest daughter was is a shallow attempt at ... read more
i understand this may not be everybody's cup of tea but i actually really like the artistic direction sabrina went in here. this feels like a caricature of hyperfeminity and heterosexual relationships. this feels like it's pulling heavily from drag and i wouldn't be surprised if someone has made the argument already that sabrina is essentially performing in drag for these last two albums.
music-wise, she clearly adores the vintage aesthetics and sounds that she's relishing ... read more
kinda insane to me that the music that spawned from duster copycats is so depressing when this feels so warm and fuzzy
none of these songs sound like they warrant this album aesthetic
every new release he's trying harder to be a knock off alex turner and it's not even good
snare is so goofy . i love how it sounds like a tin being rattled in a metal bucket
depressing emoviolence single from their upcoming release "nowitsallgray"
this is a solid dream pop album . i loved how it started but something about the ending didn't do it for me and mostly felt like a let down in comparison to the first half .
i feel that it is a great example of a band member being able to create amazing music while still working within their band too . luke is definitely not the only member to do this from 5sos and i really really like that about them because i'm pretty sure the artistic directions of the solo detours weren't ... read more
he's a great producer and dj when he's not trying to sound like an lcd meal deal
feeling like a broken record with how much i keep thinking that they have potential and yet keep drawing from generic and bland indie vocals with every new release post-wu&io
i have a lot of other thoughts on the continuing career of lovejoy, the response to this, and how "separate the art from the artist" has been completely hijacked but i'm going to save it for when i review the debut. it feels more appropriate to criticise the project as a whole rather than to go in on a ... read more
fourteen-track dirty melancholindie
i'm honestly surprised that this isn't more well-known .
this record slips between darker, grunge-rock tracks and catchy and melodic guitar riffs that make it more alike to 2000s pop rock radio . there's also quite a few slower tracks which i'm usually quite critical of since slower and intended-to-be-sad tracks tend to take away from larger projects, stick out like a sore thumb, and break the listening experience entirely . but idk man ... read more
the vocalist may be a dealbreaker for whether a lot of people would love or hate this album . the songs feel wobbly and unfinished and the overall feeling is tepid but it's one of those projects where this is all a part of its charm .
incredibly fun album . i was gonna leave it like halfway through and come back since it's late (3am as im writing) but i was too interested in seeing what the rest of it was like that thirty minutes later i finished the whole thing instead of probably sleeping .
