Seriously it is about time that we commend Converge for being one of the greatest bands in any genre EVER. Like seriously these guys have their act down to a science it is totally unreal how consistent they are.
The album itself is really solid. Dream Debris is a clear highlight for me, along with the title track. I feel like it doesn't have that same kind of highs and versatility that we see from other Converge projects. It is a good step down from Love Is Not Enough for me but for an ... read more
"IT'S BEEN AWFUL" has some very solid moments, but I feel like it doesn't need to be 16 tracks. It is pretty repetitive, making for a pretty unengaging album experience at times.
The experimentation on this album has its fun moments but when the songs aren't trying to be experimental they are rather lackluster. I will say that the guitar player is the MVP of this album he locked in.
Heaven Surrounds You is probably Surf Curse's best project to date. The first two tracks provide some stunning atmospheres and are genuinely really good. Midnight Cowboy is also a highlight, the subtle country accent is just so fun to me. I will say that after this a lot of the tracks suffer from the usual redundancy that we get from this band.
Surf Curse's "Nothing Yet" has some solid musical atmospheres, but I would say that it lacks any really captivating features. The songs really blend together and I really didn't like how the vocals sat on the rest of the mix. I will say that the guitar work is nice and some of the lyrics are pretty captivating. But overall this album falls short of Buds for me because the ideas just aren't as interesting.
This album really is for everyone. The goofy, fun tendencies combines with the climactic and chaotic moments make this album such an engaging experience overall. The lyrics are also top notch, the way Prison Song just states literal stats relating to crime and law enforcement is so straight forward and effective , and then we have tracks like Chop Suey that carry a heartbreaking personal message with its humorous turned dramatic lyrics. Like this song really goes from leaving your keys on the ... read more
It is hard to listen to this project and not be biased when this man JPEGMAFIA genuinely claims to be some sort of undisputed goat of experimental rap before dropping an extremely formulaic, repetitive, and lyrically dry album. Now this album has its moments but it really does lack variety or any real overall flow and a lot of tracks should not be here. "1st Amendment" for one is, well, you know. And then "Lights" is just a worse version of Kanye's "All of The ... read more
Death's Scream Bloody Gore has definitely made its mark with its influence and ideas, the album is fast paced, disgusting (in a good way) and definitely ahead of its time. I will say that it is not as timeless as a other projects we will come to see from Death and the Death metal genre. But it still a very enjoyable record.
"Future Soul" is a very safe and inoffensive record that ends up falling into every trope you would expect it to. Also what is this album cover ðŸ˜
Converge's newest album utilizes cleaner, more stripped back production and it still hits as hard as ever. The lyrical themes are amazing as well, I really enjoyed reading Jacob Bannon's commentary on each track.
A lot of short, uneventful tracks, and I feel like Joji's voice doesn't always sit nice on the rest of the mix in a lot of these songs with a few notable exceptions for me such as Forehead Touch the Ground and Sojourn.
This album really captures that aching, tears in your eyes, lump in your throat feeling so well, and the context of the group only makes it feel worse. It's so beautifully crushing.
This might be my all-time favorite album. The concept cuts DEEP, the whole narrative of Phil wandering in the forest, trying to cope with a lost relationship, is so well executed that I genuinely feel his pain on every listen. It also goes without saying that Phil Elverum puts on an absolute clinic when it comes to producing this album. Tracks like The Moon and Map, for example have some absolutely hypnotizing musical landscapes, while more abrasive noise elements are explored on I Want to be ... read more
Tool's debut album is a little one note and discustipated just shouldn't be on the track list, but man these grooves are absolutely hypnotizing. Overall, this album serves its function as a solid release that is necessary for the bands development and I think it really shows Tool's potential at the time.
The lack of direction and exceedingly long run time make Sufjan Steven's Enjoy Your Rabbit an anguishing listen. This record suffers primarily from the concept, it just feels like too many of these songs are just here to fuel the concept surrounding Chinese zodiacs and it is at the expense of a solid album flow.
It is hard to pinpoint what exactly makes this such a good album for me. On paper the songwriting is only so interesting, yet I find myself really enjoying the catchy riffs and melodies that this album offers. Now the lyrics are a different story. Matt Thiessen really pours his heart out as he mourns the loss off his relationship that really is his fault. These lyrics make for a really vulnerable experience that adds so much to the album experience
I will say that this album definitely has its ... read more
This is my first experience listening to Adrianne Lenker and I definately plan to go through her discography. This album is a strong starting point in Lenker's discography that makes me really optimistic for the rest of her work.
This record is a hidden gem. The vocals are powerful and the guitar playing is equally emotional, leading to an overall really solid project from State Faults.
This is the first album that I deemed to be a perfect record after only one listen. Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians came into my life at the right time. We can often be overly critical of music, we like to search for something mind blowing and endlessly creative that will become the subject of praise for many years to come, and it is far too easy to get too caught up in the overly negative side of music critique. But the simplistic beauty of this piece serves as a reminder that music ... read more
Definitely gonna check out more from deftones. I love the dreamy, yet heavy sound from this record, it makes for an entrancing and thrilling experience.
