What the hell is that reggae song ? Except that it's a great album, I'm in love with Quik's Groove, it's gorgeous. Born and Raised in Compton is iconic too. And I always wonder why we don't mention his name more often when we talk about the founders of G-Funk, it was released in 1991, Doggystyle was released two years later, The Chronic almost 2 years after this ... He's one of the greats and this album is the first stone of his almost flawless run in the 90s.
Normally I would love this, Memphis rap, an album from one of the most influentials rappers from the south (even though people don't mention him) but ... it's way too long. I would enjoy if there was 5 or 6 tracks removed and even like that some tracks are just way too long by themselves. I like long songs, but you have to switch it up a little. But I get it was made 30 years ago so switching beats in the middle of the song was not as common as today. Maybe the mix don't help ... read more

I'm just not a fan of B-Real delivery and how he uses his voice. It gets annoying on an LP of almost an hour. It's repetitive too, but the production sure has something special, DJ Muggs created his own sound and he keeps on showcasing it here. I get it's seen as a great album by some people but it doesn't work on me.
It's a shame Quik is not recognized as important as Dre, Snoop or others as one the founders of the G-Funk. This album is a masterpiece, Quik is just so fuckin good on the hooks and sometimes you just have music (like Quik's Groove III), no rap over it and it adds so much to the project. He's a little bit obsessed with sex but around these times it was very common to hear so much about it in rap albums (Ready to Die with Biggie having sex with Lil Kim, Doggystyle is full of this ... read more
If this didn't have the influence it had I would rate it lower. I don't think there's really a bad track but at the same time I don't think there's a really great track. It's well produced and they have a signature flow, they sound like no other artist. But it's more one hour long and it's repetitive af.
I'm not a fan, I understand it's a classic and it helped to define the west coast sound but E-40's flow is weird, like he's taking bumps on the production. At some other moments he flows really well, bu still I find there are a lot of punchlines involving shit. You have some fine tracks but overall it's difficult for me to listen to the whole album front to back.
Definitely a fun tape, and I love Denzel Curry for trying to put up a supergroup of rappers from different areas (I don't get the idea of southern rap, Denzel is sure from the south but Ferg is from NY, Key Nyata seems to be from Seattle... idk if it's really south but maybe he's talking about the influence, Ferg is surely more influenced by the south than the east coast).
Back to the project, the first 4 tracks are kinda the classic Denzel Curry sound, the last 4 are funnier. I ... read more
My rate reflects what I think of the Deluxe version of the album because I've listened to it thinking it was the original version. I'm usually not a fan of deluxe versions but I must admit here the tracks added on the deluxe are great, even though it makes the whole project a bit long.
I keep divin in Little Simz' discography and after the surprinsingly good debut we have this album. More ambitious, I liked the overall vibe of it even though sometimes I feel it gets a little ... read more
The addition of certain tracks on this Deluxe Edition makes this project better.
Okay I'm diving in her discography, I never knew about this album but damn it's good. There's a little bit of everything, it's never boring. Obviously it's still not the Little Simz we know, her special approach to hip-hop is missing, it's still a bit conventional but it shows how good she is and her potential is already very easy to hear, no wonder Kendrick and other rappers said she was that good.
Someone told me to listen to this so I did to make them happy and I ended being the one being happy. Since then I've listened to it so many times I have the impression all the songs are classics.
It's a nice album, it's kinda what I expect from the Wu-Tang but at the same time do I really expect something from the Wu-Tang in 2025 ? Not really, which is why now I wish they went a little more adventurous maybe, I don't know. Maybe if they did I would have said they should have stick to what they know how to do. Anyway, it's cool to see all those OGs (them, De la Soul, Mobb Deep, Slick Rick ...) making a come back in 2025 but this one album is not gonna leave a mark for ... read more
