Not really my thing, but I'm really interested in what Childish Gambino is going with this album, considering this is apparently going to be his final one. This definitely sounds very anthemic, almost like he's setting up a giant finale project.
This project has been on my radar for some time now, so I was pretty excited to finally check it out. Honestly, I'm pretty impressed, this is a decent piece of conscious rap, each song easily stands out from each other, and the implementation of R&B and jazz elements makes the EP feel incredibly fresh. A lot of the lyrical content of this EP reads simply like someone discussing their issues in a very honest way, which humanizes the project and makes it almost sound like you're in ... read more
Every song on here, on it's own, is pretty good, but as one cohesive project, it just falls apart.
There are a lot of interesting ideas at play here, but I feel like very few of them are executed well. By the end of the album, it just felt messy in a weird, indescribable way.
I feel like I've only scratched the surface of what this album is truly about. This was an impressive listen, however I think the fact the the first song is so incredible actually does a disservice to the other songs, which never reach the same height. One of the most ambitious albums of 2023 as well.
What surprised me the most about this album is how ethereal the whole thing sounds. I'm not sure why, but I didn't expect this album to have this much beauty in it. From beginning to end, it flows so well, with each aspect sounding like a logical continuation of the previous, which for an album made completely from samples, is insanely impressive. This is such a fun listen, and shows what music can be, it's an absolutely timeless album.
It's really hard for me to get into ambient music, since a lot of it can sound similar to each other, this is sadly a culprit of that. This album is no doubt beautiful, but it didn't do much to stand out.
This is such a hard album to put into words for me, it's a very real and raw depiction of depression.

yeah, i get why this was so hard to put into words for me originally
The production here really is great, each song sounds distinct from each other, which makes this album have pretty high replay value. Boldy also does a pretty decent job at rapping here
Wanted to get into Jazz music more recently, so I thought no better place to start than here.
Wow, this album is something special, I love how many different styles it goes through. I have no idea how this album would have been like to listen to back in 1963, but even today, there's something timeless about this. Probably going to listen to this again so I can get a better understanding of this album, because there is so many different things going on at once here that it can feel hard to ... read more
Listening to this song and reading the English translation makes for some really powerful music. The way the writing repeats itself, telling a very slightly different story in each verse, and with the subtle dissatisfaction with the then-current Brazilian dictatorship is absolutely masterful. Even not knowing a word of Portuguese, the musical elements alone are enough to keep me interested. With the music rising in tension, and as more and more voices come in, heightening the tension of the ... read more
When you're in the right headspace, Tim Hecker's music can be incredible, this leads to my enjoyment varying throughout his albums. In no doubt that Tim Hecker has a distinct musical style that is executed very well here, with the droning electronic sounds becoming soothing after a while, to the point of almost becoming otherworldly by the end.
Obnoxious, noisy, messy, insane sounding electronic music that makes you deaf is one of my favourite genres
While having an album full of 1 minute long songs is an interesting and and unique concept, it leaves the album without anything of any real substance. Songs just end out of nowhere and it really breaks the immersion and the album listening experience. The production on this album is decent, and the different genres seen here can be charming, but it also leads to the project sounding disjointed. Also, it's clear that Whack is better at some musical genres than others.

At points, the album can sound poorly mixed, which hinders my enjoyment somewhat, on top of meaning that the replay value this album has isn't super high. That being said, woods is continuing his streak of great album after great album since "Hiding Places".
The first few songs on here are great, but as the album goes on, I started to lose interest, this album didn't need to be 18 songs long, and at points it can feel bloated. That being said, the final song is really something special and not something I was expecting from Megan at all.
I don't usually listen to the singles before the albums release, unless I'm already pretty familiar with the artist's music. However, I decided to check out the title track for this album on a whim and I was blown away Lupe's writing, which he seemed to do all himself, and the production seemed so welcoming in a strange way, and is such an easy listen. It serves here as the perfect opening track of this album.
Thankfully, the album continues this energy throughout its ... read more
