I honestly can't say that this is a bad album. The production is rich for the most part, however, I can't get past the dreariness of it. It feels a bit monotonous and some songs just aren't interesting. Nonentheless I don't consider it a bad effort from Albarn.
This album is pure fun. What I love mostly about it is the zaniness accompanied with this slight dark undertone. Pink manages to craft interesting and thought-provoking pop songs. However, still finds time for playful and ridiculous songs. A great pop album and one of the best lo-fi pop album in recent memory.
Andy Stott provides a dark yet beautiful experience in this album. You get this feeling of finding beauty in the most darkest of places. It is a rewarding listen and adds to an already impressive catalog by Andy Stott.
What makes this album pleasant to listen to is the lush arrangements which give the songs an epic feeling. However, Damien's lyrics are very typical and become predictable. It sounds rather extraordinary after a couple listens, but it can become rather boring and cheesy after a while.
Big Krit puts together a pretty solid album. Outside of a couple weak tracks the album coms together very nicely. The only thing that isn't making drool for this album is that I've heard better from KRIT.
Honestly I'm feeling very mixed about this album. There are some excellent tracks throughout the album, but there is too much filler. There is a lot of content and diversity, but it seems to lack substance. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see Azealia move forward from this.
Taylor Swift is showing that she has true pop talent in this album compared to her pop contemporaries. She has a keen ability to craft songs, although they mostly seem to be about relationships. In her first true pop album, I can't deny that Swift came through with a pretty solid album.
The hip hop album of the year and its not even close. Killer Mike and El-P seem to working in the apex of their careers. This album is relentless in its approach. Their chemistry has never sounded better, and it is tougher and more serious than its predecessor. Only if you are Fuckboy, will you not like this album.
This is essentially as good as it gets when it comes to EPs. It's better than most hip hop albums this year. Hell Can Wait is the work of an artist who is coming. Vince Staples shows promise of a classic west coast hip hop album in the future.
I just couldn't find myself liking this album. I felt his previous album Bisch Bosch was more immersive and haunting than this album.
This was very interesting album. Some people considered it to be simply a bass line with someone coughing. I thought it was a good display of a person deteriorating. The concept of this album for some reason intrigues me.
Iceage drop what I consider one of the most underrated projects this year. No one is near the level of Iceage in this genre of post-punk. The lyrics in this album are truly poetic and the songs expand the genre further. I think this has become my favorite Iceage record. By the end of this album you feel exhausted but in a good way.
One of the best electronic albums if not one the best albums this year. FlyLo provides an immersive experience about death and what happens after. It features some his best tracks yet like Never Catch Me and Coronus. This album is more of an experience than a collection of tracks. Not many albums this year offer that.
Perfume Genius switches form his usual singer-songwriter format of making music and goes for his first truly pop album, and it is amazing. Songs like Queen, Grid, and Fool are some of the better pop songs I have heard this year. I enjoyed Put Ur Back N 2It, but I feel this album is even better and it shows the true growth of fantastic artist.
An absolute masterpiece of an electronic album. Aphex Twin doesn't wow me with creating something superbly advanced, instead this album impresses me by its collective beauty and intricacy. This album oozes with detail, and not one track should be skipped. A definite AOTY contender.
