Lupe Fiasco - Tetsuo & Youth
65

I know I will get hate for this, but Lupe's album was simply way too dense to enjoy. I absolutely love his technical ability and his ability to give bars is unquestioned. However, I just don't find the album to be that enjoyable. Plus the production just isn't working for me. However, I can see why other people are loving this.

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
100

A masterpiece in every sense of the word. I don't know what more you can ask from Kendrick. This is a 21st Century American Classic. From the funk, soul, hip hop production to Kendrick's insightful and thought provoking lyrics; there isn't a flaw to this album. It is a true beauty to listen to. Kendrick, Thank You.

Drake - If You're Reading This It's Too Late
83

Drake delivers once again with probably his most rap-heavy album. For the most part this album is very cohesive, and the production is really what makes it stands out. Loved tracks like Legend, No Tellin, and 6PM in New York. Not his best work, but a worthy project to compare to his best one; Take Care.

Ibeyi - Ibeyi
59

I just found this album to be boring by the third listen. Repetitive phrases and I felt like I have heard this before. I just wasn't feeling it.

Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear
95

FJM crafts an remarkable and astonishing album about love, marriage, and the pitfalls that may come with it. It is such a conflicted album when it comes to a perspective about love. FJM is utterly honest and isn't afraid to lay out his emotions and fears. A great feat, and an album that I have been desperately waiting for.

Natalie Prass - Natalie Prass
81

If it weren't for the instrumentation, I may have found this album to be utterly corny, since it is a break-up album. However, Prass still manages to provide gorgeous sounds aside her singing, and makes it work. Plus, anything that can sell me a Disneyfied song to end the album deserves some credit.

Jessica Pratt - On Your Own Love Again
78

Pratt has this subtle, wispy voice that sometimes endears me. However, at times this album can be a little too one-dimensional. Back Baby is the best track on the album, but there are some other strong tracks. There is sort of a hazy vibe to her music, and I like for the most part.

Preoccupations - Viet Cong
85

A very strong, but short collection of tracks. Viet Cong explores the themes of death, through haunting lyrics and rich textures. It's creative, and only makes you wish they had made the album longer.

Sleater-Kinney - No Cities to Love
87

This is just a great comeback for Sleater-Kinney. This album just reminds us how great of a band they are. The lyrics point to the time we are in now. Plus you feel sort of a revitalized energy in their songs. An overall solid record

Joey Bada$$ - B4.DA.$$
76

Joey Badass's new album is solid throwback to the boom-bap era of the 90's. What Joey does well that other 90 era rappers don't, is maintaining a certain relevancy and lyricism that combats new age rappers. I did enjoy 1999 better, but I feel this album is a step in the right direction for Joey.

Björk - Vulnicura
86

Bjork has made honestly one of the more beautiful and heartbreaking albums in the past few years. She teams up with Arca who co-produced FKA Twigs, LP1. The result is a sombering collection of nine tracks about her break-up. It is such a great return for Bjork, who had been struggling to find a new sound that complements her. This album will hit you hard, and leave you devastated, in a good way.

Panda Bear - Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper
82

Panda Bear's new album is part hypnotic, part sobering. The album focuses on death and all the fears that surround it while we are alive. As a result, the sound of this album can be rather dreary or washed out. The album may sound sweet, but the underlying message in the music has incredible depth.

D'Angelo - Black Messiah
95

About as vital as an album to start this 2015 year. It's been 15 years since D'Angelo has blessed us with the album, and it was definitely worth the wait. These songs display the beauty in the constant struggle of the world. It is masterful, and does not take trendy R&B approaches. This is just straight forward R&B/Soul that feels like its in the lineage or Marvin, Stevie, and Prince.

J. Cole - 2014 Forest Hills Drive
71

This is an album that showed some promise, but not enough to really makes me feel confident that J.Cole put together something great. It starts off well, but by the end of the album you don't feel like you've experienced anything out of the usual. This is his best in a while, but he still leaves me with a meh feeling after finishing his album.

Dean Blunt - BLACK METAL
77

A unique album that showcases Blunt's complex approach to crafting an album. There are themes of loneliness and isolation found throughout the album. The album itself is an outcast to other albums this year.

82

This album provides some of the most vital and engaging punk songs of this year. The lyrics are engrossing and the short 29 minute span of the album provides added incentive for replay.

Sleaford Mods - Divide and Exit
78

Sleaford Mods is unlike anything else this year. Not quite hip hop, not quite punk rock. Most of the songs are about how they hate aspects of society such as the wealthy, iphones, and young people. The only negative of this album is that it can be monotonous. However, when it hits, it can hit very hard.

La Roux - Trouble in Paradise
66

I didn't love this album. I found it kind of boring> It seemed like La Roux was trying to play it safe and not go for anything bold in the record. Outside of may be two or three tracks, there wasn't anything too compelling about it.

Jenny Lewis - The Voyager
81

The Voyager is a strong collection of pop rock songs that mostly talk about one's journey through life and existential thoughts of a person going towards middle-age. I absolutely loved songs like Just One of the guys, and The New You. Lewis has a keen ability to put words together in a record. Great pop rock record.

TV on the Radio - Seeds
80

It may not be the strongest record in their collection. However, it is a radiant and rewarding album with each listen. All the tracks play well off each other, and you feel complete by the end of it.
