This is about as ambitious of a jazz album that I have heard in a long time. It brings jazz back into the forefront of music along with Kendrick's TPAB. It works as a triple album, being each part can be heard as if it was album itself. It is simply amazing.
This album does pale in comparison to other Beach House albums like Depression Cherry. Bloom, and Teen Dream. However, what we have here is an album that goes back to its roots. It is still a terrific dream pop album that flows very nicely from beginning to end.
This is an album that puts you fully immersed into a different era of music. Neon Indian does a real impressive job in bringing a polished but fresh sound of disco, funk, and pop. It's an album that doesn't lose your attention from start to finish. I think it is a little underrated.
People may dismiss this because it is too simple, but the appeal is mostly in the intimate connection the singer may provide in his lyrics and voice. It's an album is very straightforward but often beautiful in its approach.
Deerhunter creates another worthy disc to their already impressive catalog. It really delves into the mind of Bradford Cox after he had that almost fatal car accident. It's a real simple indie rock mixed with some psychedelia. It's concise, heartfelt, and pristine.
This is some thought-provoking garage/post punk. It's a dark and cold album that maintains its atmosphere through its production. There is something about this album that makes me want to go back.
I truly enjoyed the black humor this album possesses. Grant is really a clever songwriter and his personality shines through his songs. It's playful and serious at the same time. The production is strong and at times very lush.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of many songs in this album. Other songs can feel like a rehash of something that been done before. She shows great diversity in many of these tracks, and proves to us that she can still exist in today's R&B climate without sounding repetitive.
Deafheaven deliver another strong atmospheric black metal record. The only that takes this one back, is that it isn't quite as ambitious as Sunbather. However, overall a fantastic album.
Simply put a gorgeous masterful work of art put together by Julia Holter. She does it again from Loud City Song to this, she doesn't ever disappoint. It's probably Holter's most personal album and more straightforward. However, that doesn't mean that it lacks in musical richness. One of the best albums this year.
This is really one of the best debut albums of this year. Girl Band is a really exciting post-punk band that is coming forward with some of the most maniacal and exhilarating punk music I've heard in some time. This album holds a medium between extreme tension and release, and it makes for one heck of a ride.
I was really disappointed by this album. It is really formulaic and so different from their previous album. It just seems like a watered down version of their sound.
I just didn't feel that this album hit its marks like their first album. There are less significant tracks, and it can feels like they aren't making anything that is pushing the boundaries of pop music. I honestly wasn't feeling this album.
This just seemed like an appetizer for something more important to happen later on. It sounds like a Future album with Drake features on it. There are some strong tracks on here, but it's just not consistent.
This album just felt disjointed to me. There wasn't that feeling I had when I listened to Ultraviolence. There are some good tracks , but the album becomes a chore to listen to.
Ought brings another album with quirky, dystopian-like lyrics. It has its moments of clarity and emotion, but it can feel a little bit mundane at times. However, overall its a very solid album with some great quotables. How's the family?
Mac Miller does show some maturity, but I just don't find him that interesting a rapper. I feel that there are other rappers who do what he does much better. Plus I don't find him interesting enough to listen for 70 minutes.
I'm sorry but this is not for me. I really liked Antidote, but that is only where I enjoyed this album. It became a chore trying to listen to it after a while.
This is album that I was really conflicted on. Some tracks I thought were great like Can't Feel My Face and Tell Your Friends. However, the album just became an attempt of the Weeknd almost forcing a sound that just doesn't match the content of his music. House of Balloons was great because of the dark, ethereal atmosphere it had. This album feels like a pop album in its sounds.
The album started off great. I felt a more grand approach, and the music seemed more aggressive. However, suddenly Foals went back to a more subtle approach, and the rest of the album became bland. It just very "meh" for me.
