A truly gorgeous album by Dan Bejar and Destroyer. Conceptually its a very seamless, poetic album. I compare it to a book with all the pages really fitting well together. Bejar just continues proving he is one of the best writers in music period. I loved the strings and horns throughout the album. Times Square is my favorite.
I very much enjoyed this album. It is much drearier and spacier than their previous two albums. This is still an incredibly romantic album despite the gloom in much of the lyrics.
Carly Rae Jepsen assembled a team of established producers and came up with a solid album of pop tunes. She has this clean but sweet sound to her music that I enjoy. It doesn't feel forced, and it works for the most part in this album.
It took 16 years but it is finally here. This is a really well put together project by Dre. All the artists who came together including Kendrick, Snoop, Game, and several other Compton area artists contributed great work. It has a cinematic flair to the album, and the production is arguably the hardest Dr. Dre has been in a while. From start to finish, its a real pleasure to hear a new Dre album.
Abyss is a heavy and dark goth rock record. Chelsea Wolfe sounds really convincing and poignant at several spots in this record. The only drawback to this album is that her vocals can get murky and get trapped underneath all that is happening in the song. Otherwise I did enjoy this record.
This is not really an album its more of an appetizer for the full entree. This album is simply a continuation of Salad Days. Its pretty enjoyable, but does lack some originality.
What we have here is a really ambitious 93 minute rock opera by Titus Andronicus that is really amazing for the most part. It's mostly a fable about a man divided in two who is trying to find his purpose to live. It is broken into 5 acts, each of which explain a different phase in this man's perspective in life. My favorite tracks include Dimed Out, Fatal Flaw, and More Perfect Union.
Change is the central theme to Tame Impala's new album. People will either accept this change in sound or be against it. That's beauty of this album. You may have your self-doubt about it, but the music eventually gets to you. A sincerely brilliant job done by Tame Impala. They bring a synthetic feel that many Innerspeaker and Lonerism may not love, but I feel that this new sound is fantastic.
Outside of To Pimp a Butterfly, Vince Staples has the most impressive hip hop album this year. Vince Staples gathers along the likes of superb producers No I.D, Clams Casino, and others and creates a landscape for the music he created. It sets you back to his summer in 2006, where Vince claims his innocence was taken, and his life changed. This album is almost the complete package in terms of delivering the mentality, confusion, desperation, and hope of Vince Staples.
This album is really best listened to with the standard version, and I can say that it is really amazing. Miguel has become a really consistent R&B artist, and I personally believe this is his most complete project. I love the funk and psychedelia Miguel added to this album. It makes the transition to each song really smooth. A really fantastic job by Miguel
A very well produced country album with meaningful lyrics. I'm not the biggest fan of country nowadays, but I feel that Musgraves is breathing life into mainstream country. This album has a certain southern charm to it that I love.
This is an ambitious and very unique album. Jenny Hval goes into very personal and intimate ideas. the way she crafted certain parts of the album seemed like she placed attention to exactly what she said and how she said it. It's a thought-provoking album that is musically engaging.
Jamie xx came through with what could end up being the best electronic/groove dance albums I've heard in a few years. This album is exactly like the album cover. You just get this sense of going through a sea of rainbows. However, Jamie xx does a magnificent job of making the music colorful and very textured.
This band shows a lot of promise but I honestly feel they need to figure out exactly what sound they are going for in their album. Some tracks were really strong but others just didn't bring anything compelling.
I didn't love this album as much as I truly wanted. I loved the production but I couldn't help myself in wanting just a little more poignancy in the record. There are great tracks like Sunday Candy, but some tracks just don't give strong enough vibes. It's a good album, but I don't think it's great.
UMO's new album has this old school sound mixed with a modern flavor. It reveals itself more with multiple listens. There's a unique psych-pop flavor to this album that makes it real pleasant on the ears. I think this is a really underrated album.
ALLA is a pretty strong collection of 18 tracks. However, it can be inconsistent. I honestly feel it could've done without some tracks and the poignancy of the album would've been felt much greater. I love the way this album opens and how it ends. ASAP Rocky can be a very versatile MC covering topics like religion, drugs, and anxiety.
