addison rae making the most interesting pop music this decade? well…
to be honest, it’s a bit of an overstatement. we’ve had some incredible pop music. especially in the past year. chappell roan and charli are obviously two of the first ones to come to mind. but even sabrina carpenter who before had some middling releases managed to hit big with something fun.
addison manages to take parts of all pop music since its birth and create an angelic landscape, taking inspiration ... read more
since y’all wanna be assholes to taylor, iron man dies in endgame
and i’m not even joking
pinkpantheress is far too good. for an artist with such little material, and such little MINUSCULE track lengths, it wouldn’t be too difficult to imagine that her full projects may lack in quality. i’m very happy to say with “fancy that”, this still seems to be further from the truth. all 21 minutes of this project is ear candy. every track has some part that you want to listen to on a loop until your eardrums burst. and to package it in such a refined and established ... read more
honestly, after seeing this whole album live last night it confirmed my opinions.
musicianship is the bread and butter of rock group black country, new road. if you’ve been keeping up with them on the socials the advertising is all about the instruments. many shots of recorders, mandolins, bass guitars, flutes, basically most instruments - be real. the production and mixing has allowed them to flourish. it all sounds live, it sounds like one take, it sounds organic.
seeing these songs ... read more
the unflinching feminist statement of “M3LL155X” (pronounced ‘melissa’) by fka twigs could be seen as more björk-indebted electronic music, but that’d be doing it a disservice to the sheer creativity that is presented across the 5 tracks.
i don’t think twigs is a particularly political artist, but here - you can see glimpses of anger and heartbreak wrapped in it’s dense, skittering beats. brutal and direct lyrics are exchanged like ... read more
its february 29th. 5pm in the cold winter.
im on my way back from therapy in my nans old red fiat covered in dog hair and my things scattered all around the backseat.
i put my crappy apple earphones into my cracked iphone 6 SE that used to be my dads. i keep manically reloading charli xcx's singles list until there comes 'Von dutch' .
i immediately hit play, and i literally cum in my jeans right there
reidy's vinyl haul part three - midnights
they're gonna find my address
you might be wondering how i managed to get this in my possession. let me explain.
i was at a school assembly when i won a gift card for WHSmiths for being in school like a fucking five year old. now, for the people that don't know the joys of WHSmiths it is a store which sells basically anything. and sometimes has a post office in it.
so, WHSmiths tried to capitalise on the vinyl craze and had a very ... read more
are we sure britney wasn't lying cause this makes it sound like its at least a mile long.
famous pop flop JT was at the top of the world in 2006. after his time at NYSNC and then releasing his major debut 'justified' in 2002, he was THE male pop star of the 2000's. clearly, whatever he was putting into this project worked - cause to summarise, this is an interesting, INCREDIBLY sexy, and at some points quite 'experimental' in its production choices. (i use ... read more
reidy's vinyl haul part two: electric ladyland
this is a repost! just wanted to tack it onto this series quickly since i have the vinyl. please enjoy, this is one of my most researched reviews <3

"electric ladyland" was an album made with stress, turmoil, and self-conciousness.
jimi hendrix, famed guitarist and member of the 27 club, was a major perfectionist in the studio. he even gained a reputation for this, with his producer chas chandler probably ... read more
reidy's vinyl haul part one: desire, i want to turn into you

caroline polachek is an artist i have loved since the release of this album in early 2023 - it's really had the longevity for me, even with its pretty ... read more
“EUSEXUA IS A PRACTICE
EUSEXUA IS A STATE OF BEING
EUSEXUA IS THE PINNACLE OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE”
experimental darling FKA twigs describes the term ‘eusexua’ as many things. she once said it meant something so simple as making a great cup of tea. visuals for the record have been sparse but so rich in every offering, taking the music video for the title track (which is the best music video of the decade fuck you all) it is high-concept, truly gorgeous, and the epitome of ... read more
before i get into it, can i just say how good this album cover is?? like idk what it is, it's just so great.
rose gray is the newest addition to the underground pop scene in a post-PC music state. while finding little to really discern her concept-wise from this is very enjoyable and a welcome addition to 2025 so far.
there are definitely a lot of hard hitting bangers on this record that are playlist and club ready. i do commend the slight experimentations of tracks like "damn" ... read more
whenever i think of "ponyboy", i think of this quote from the big lebowski, or more commonly used in beyoncé's partition but in french:
"do you like sex, mr lebowski?
'scuse me?
the physical act of love; coitus. do you like it?
i was talking about my rug
you're not interested in sex?"
this part of the film isn't very expected. its meant to shock you a little bit, like it shocked mr lebowski. the intensity and shock factor of sex in popular ... read more
ethel cain is truly an artist to immerse yourself in. from her exciting plot lines in a record like preachers daughter to the alt-pop americana hanging over her like a shining beacon. but never has ethel experimented this far from the mainstream. for a considerably big artist, a "pop star" even, a drone/dark ambient EP is not gonna be what is commercially viable. but spanning just short of 90 mins and most songs easily passing 10 minutes, ethel cain has explored new boundaries for her ... read more
