What an emotional mess of an album this is, it’s by far the bands most emotional album. I’m gonna be honest, I cried at the end of this album when I first heard it. It’s very very rare for me to cry. I cried back when Taylor Hawkins died as well. It felt like losing a family member because Foo Fighter’s music has gotten me through so many things in life, good and bad. They mean a lot to me, they’re one of my favorite bands, and honestly I think Hawkins was one of ... read more
I’ll get around to a formal review at some point but I just wanted to say for now that I think this is the superior version of the album. New York City Cops is a great song, as great as any other song off the album, but I don’t feel that it really fits the album. On the other hand, When It Started fits perfectly into the album in every way. Everything from the lyrics to its tone and vibe just works way better. On top of that, I feel that the US cover is much more representative of ... read more
Just came back from seeing this in theaters. It was incredible, definitely the greatest concert film of all time. Very wild and all over the place with excellent performances, it’s really impressive.
I’m not quite at the point where I can do a formal review but I just wanted to say a little bit on this album.
The vibes on this one? They’re immaculate. The production, the lyrics, the instrumentation, it’s all so fucking good. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite albums of all time.
This album does not hold back whatsoever. It’s so loud and grand, it’s really the bands best work. There is not a single bad song, every single one is incredible, and it flows so damn well. No other album makes me feel as immersed as this one does. Everything from the basslines to the riffs, all the incredible piano parts and the synths, Matt’s unreal vocals, it’s all so alien and otherworldly and perfect. From the explosive start that is New Born to a closer that is ... read more
First off, I just wanna say that I fucking love this album so much. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time, and by far my favorite Muse album. The day I first heard Muscle Museum in a playlist, I immediately loved it and checked out the whole album right after. It only took a couple listens for it to click with me, and I had it on repeat for a few months honestly. It’s a really good debut, all the energy that the band would end up being known for is here, just in a more raw ... read more
The other day I started listening to Muse again as it had been a while, and I decided I’d finally check out this remix. I think Origin of Symmetry is arguably the bands best work, but the only complaint I have about it is that the mix can be a bit muddy at times. If any album needed a remaster, it was OoS. This remix is certainly interesting. For one, it sounds MUCH clearer, especially the drums. Maybe even too clear at times lol. It also brings a lot of cool details out that I never ... read more
Neat mini album. The vocals and mixing are a big improvement over the previous album but I think the songs themselves just aren't as great. Overall it's still pretty good though. Unfortunately it would be the last thing the band would release. It's also cool to see that The Icarus Plan got their name from a song off this album.
This is such a neat album from a forgotten band. The Icarus Plan is one of my favorite bands ever (yes I know they're really a duo). When I found out they had been in a nu metal band back in the 2000s though, I was really excited. I wasn't disappointed, this is some great stuff. Brian Link has certainly improved as a vocalist since the 2000s, I still love this earlier stuff though. He's one of my favorite vocalists of all time.
Yeah I'm gonna give this album a 100, it's not amazing and the ... read more
Wow, I wasn’t expecting a release from blue smiley. It’s an older song but still. It sounds really cool, it’s got a calming vibe to it. It made me sad though :(
As solid of a debut as one can get. It's a great start that would later be perfected on the next album, Siamese Dream. The band clearly knew how they wanted to sound even from the start, and it's a really great sound, one of the best to come from the 90s.
I should first point out that my review and rating are based off of the 2017 reissue of the album. The original album doesn't sound too great in terms of production, it's very flat and echo-y. It really brings the album down. The reissue is not only how the band originally intended for the album to sound, but it adds a lot more depth, removes that echo-y sound for something more raw and in line with Seattle's music at the time of the albums release, and really brings out the songs in a better ... read more
I really like this album, it's one of my favorites from QOTSA. I think it was a good choice to go in this direction after Songs for the Deaf, there wasn't really anything to improve upon after that album as it was perfect. I also really like the sort of callback to the bands debut when it comes to the sound of the guitars. This album is definitely something I return to often when I'm in the mood for QOTSA. It has some of my favorite songs, and I think it starts off really strong. After ... read more
Songs for the Deaf is perfect. From the explosive Millionaire to the beautiful Mosquito Song, the album is just hit after hit after hit. Honestly it's got one of the greatest album intros of all time, if not the greatest. The album title is also fitting, it is really damn loud, definitely songs for the deaf. The album doesn't have a single low point, and just fires off incredible songs one after another. It flows incredibly well, and the band also really pulled off the whole road trip thing. ... read more
I understand that this is many people's favorite QOTSA album and that it's considered one of the bands best, but I honestly don't like it as much as the bands other work. It's one of the album I listen to the least outside of some songs in my playlist. It has many incredible moments but there's a few songs that just aren't as good as the rest for me and sort of break the flow, especially Quick and to the Pointless. The best moments do outweigh the worse ones though. I do think it's some of the ... read more
Queens of the Stone Age has been one of my favorite bands as far back as around when I first started to get into music, though I was more interested in songs from albums like Villains, Songs for the Deaf, Lullabies to Paralyze, and Like Clockwork. I never really cared for most songs off of the bands debut album. This was a few years ago. Around the end of last year or beginning of this year, I decided to relisten to this album. I'm not sure exactly what happened, it could be because I had ... read more
The lows on this album are pretty low but the highs are really damn high. It's got great songs like Everything Zen, Bomb, Little Things, Comedown, Machinehead, Testosterone, Glycerine, and Alien. It's a great post-grunge album, I don't understand any hate towards it. Then again, I grew up hearing Glycerine and Comedown a lot.
return takes everything that was interesting about ok and actually puts it together into a really good album. It's really damn good, an improvement in every way. Not a lot of albums can say this much in only 20 minutes.
