Poppy - Flux
75

Poppy's third record "I Disagree" (released last year) was my introduction to her work. A year later, that album wasn't really replayed.

When I first heard "Her", the lead single to Poppy's newest project, I thought it was quite a nice track and my interest in her resurfaced.

"Flux" to me shows Poppy in a more mature and engaging fashion, with a more meticulous display of her talents.
While still commiting to the smart blend of pop with punk/rock elements, this ... read more

IDLES - CRAWLER
90

You know Fantano with Death Grips?
That's me with IDLES.

The group's last record "Ultra Mono" got quite a high rating from me, but It wasn't replayed as much as I first expected (apart from the singles and a few album tracks like "Reigns").
Now, just over a year later, the band is back!

The singles ahead of this new record were outstanding!

"The Beachland Ballroom" proved that this band just keeps releasing a new favourite song for me. It has everything I ... read more

Coldplay - Music of the Spheres
42

Well... The biggest disappointment of the year.

I swear to God....If people called "Everyday Life" trash, then what is this? 💀

Coldplay's 9th studio record is a commercial hit (the usual), but it's their worst since "A Head Full of Dreams".
And their WORST.

The worst part is that I had the dumb vision of hope for this record. When I first heard "Coloratura" I thought to myself: "Damn, this is great! This new record will perhaps show some ... read more

Disclaimer: What I'll be writing about this record has nothing to do with Lorde's present state of mind. I'm happy that she's in a better place right now. Lorde not being the "depressed indie girl from 2014" anymore does not interfere with my rating and opinion on the record. Glad you're doing fine, Lorde.

She really came back to save 2021! Or so they said. I thought "Solar Power" would be more powerful.

The title track was odd at first listen. The fact that it's the ... read more

Roger Taylor - Outsider
56

Roger Taylor is the drummer of my all time favourite band: Queen.

I love all the work he put into writing lyrics, singing vocals and playing drums for the band since all the way back in 1971, but I never had much interest in his solo work apart from a few songs like "I Wanna Testify" and "Sunny Day".

"Outsider" is another one of those projects that were conceived due to being unable to tour due to the pandemic, and it shows. It lacks consistency, and most ... read more

Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
84

I came upon Little Simz back in 2017 when she was featured on the Gorillaz track "Garage Palace", which impressed me a lot for her skill and rapping style. I never managed to listen to her debut album, but I looked forward to listening to her newest work!

When we first press play we're greeted with an instant high moment from the album, the opening track "Introvert" with its fantastic and brilliantly produced orchestration. It slightly reminded me of Björk tracks like ... read more

Kanye West - Donda
76

I usually hate Sundays. But not this one.

This one took a *long* time to make because....Well, life happened. I apologise for the delay!

I don't want to dedicate a lot of space of this review on the hype around "Donda", but I have to state that until now I hadn't participated in such a controversial, chaotic and exciting (for the most part) album rollout. I watched the streams, got bamboozled a few times on the release dates. By the time the record actually got out I lost a lot of ... read more

Black Country, New Road - For the first time
86

Black Country, New Road was (and still is) a hell of a mystery for me. Never heard of them until they released their debut earlier this year and received consistent praise. I heard the record back then, but only managed to review it now.

"For The First Time" starts with an instrumental track called..."Instrumental", which gives me this ceremonial, almost festive atmosphere accentuated by Lewis Evan's saxophone playing and the prog-like percussion played by Charlie Wayne. ... read more

St. Vincent - Daddy's Home
85

Well well St. Vincent, what did you scheme this time?
"Daddy's Home". New album, new artistic image.

The album starts off with "Pay You Way In Pain", of which I was amused by back when released as a single. Strong track to start the record, with a catchy chorus and charismatic performance by Clark all the way.

I found the use of sitar on the track "Down And Out Downtown" to be quite refreshing and unexpected. I also really enjoyed the sound of the guitars on ... read more

Still Woozy - If This Isn't Nice, I Don't Know What Is
71

Still Woozy. One of the most promising artists that still hadn't released an album, instead releasing stand-alone tracks for a period of 4 years.

I discovered his music almost 3 years ago, and for personal reason I avoided listening to it for some time. With the release of a debut record full of previously-unreleased tracks, I thought of giving it a chance to reignite Woozy's presence in my day-to-day rotation.

One of Woozy's biggest qualities is the consistency of his grooves and ... read more

Jungle - Loving In Stereo
73

I first discovered Jungle back in 2018 when I listened to "Happy Man" on the radio a month or so before their second record "For Ever" was released. Since then, the group never left my electronic music radar.

The british duo is back with "Loving In Stereo", their first album after leaving XL Recordings and founding their own label Caiola Records.

"Keep Moving" was the only song I heard before the record's release, and back then I didn't think much of ... read more

Arlo Parks - Collapsed In Sunbeams
77

Before the release of "Collapsed In Sunbeams" was eminent, I had barely ever heard of Arlo Parks. The 20-year old musican released "Eugene" as a single beforehand, and the track caught my attention for a little while. After the record was released, I came across "Just Go" and enjoyed it quite a lot. Now, at last I review the full debut record.

The intro track that gives the album its name showcases Arlo's brilliant talent for poetry and songwriting. It's quite ... read more

The Killers - Pressure Machine
72

Well, they're back once again!

The Killers' previous record was more of a miss for me. It had some good moments, but I barely went back to it to listen to one or two songs. "Imploding the Mirage" made my view of the band's future a bit negative, but that didn't stop me from looking forward to this new record "Pressure Machine".

From the album cover, you could hope it would be more mature. And holy fuck, a Phoebe Bridgers feature?! How could you not look forward to that? ... read more

Klaus Nomi - Klaus Nomi
90

Dear Lord, what a discovery!!

Klaus Nomi, the mysterious and fascinating german musician whose career flew by like a shooting star.

I kept an eye on his this individual for some time, but only remembered to listen to his work the past week or so.
What a cultural reset this was for me.

Klaus essentially combined new-wave and rock elements with opera-styled vocal performances (which were his major skill).
On paper this sound ridiculous, impossible to conceive. Well, that shows Klaus' ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST
79

RickSalix has returned.
As well as Tyler, the Creator. Or Baudelaire. Whatever.

Boy I was waiting for this one. Tyler is without any doubt one of my favourite musicians, period.
After IGOR's massive success, I couldn't help but worry a bit about the possiblity of this new record being an attempt to replicate the style of the previous one.
Thankfully, I was wrong on that.

I don't know how he does it to be honest. How can this guy be so damn creative? Anways, moving on.

Tyler took on the ... read more

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis - CARNAGE
84

After releasing one of my favourite records of 2019 (the outstanding "Ghosteen"), both Nick Cave and Warren Ellis return with their first collaborative record (that isn't a soundtrack) "CARNAGE".

Nick Cave described it as “a brutal but very beautiful record nested in a communal catastrophe.". How am I supposed to describe it better than the man himself?
All was said. The record was born in a very troubled time, but it came out sounding marvelous.

When you ... read more

Simon & Garfunkel - Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme
95

My personal favourite record of this incredible duo.

It's their second album after returning to the music industry as a duo (with "Sounds Of Silence", which includes the timeless classic that gives the album its name), and while it's their shortest project it shows huge refinement and upgrade to the duo's sound and lyrical material.

The opener "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" is one of their greatest hits, as well as one of their most atmospheric tracks with its lyrics of ... read more

Weezer - OK Human

Weezer went orchestral
Weezer went orchestral

For the past few years Weezer has been one of the bands I most enjoyed making fun of. You're allowed to call me stupid, since my experience with the band's catalog is very short (their debut, half of "Pinkerton" and "Everything Will Be Alright In The End").

After two major let-downs in 2019, the band is back this year with two records. "OK Human" is the first, even though it was announced shortly before its ... read more

✨😍 Vive la resistance 😍✨

Coldplay's fourth studio album is seen by most as the start of their downfall as a respectful and original band. I agree, while I also think this is one of their best.
In fact, the band would take a whole decade to make an album nearly as good as this one.

Like its title and cover art clearly show, the sound landscape of the record takes the French revolution and the feelings of revolt and constant change as central topics of inspiration.

Adding to the ... read more

My 𝟭𝟬𝟬𝘁𝗵 review!
Thank you to everyone that followed me and reacted on my reviews for the past year I've been here, it really means a lot!

Yup. That album. The album with the funny triangle. The album you see on every store, on every damn music t-shirt and social media post about how old music is so much better.

I can't quite remember the first time I listened to this record, but I do remember its impact on me. I really don't want to sound based or cringey, but I'd be lying ... read more
