Pray For Paris is an excellent project by Westside Gunn. It's relatively concise at 13 tracks and 42 minutes long and is incredibly consistent throughout. Westside Gunn has one of the most entertaining voices in hip-hop and his adlibs are fucking awesome. Westside Gunn also has a wide array of excellent features, ranging from Griselda to excellent rappers like Freddie Gibbs and Tyler, The Creator. This is a very lowkey project with almost lofi type beats on some songs. Even with these lowkey ... read more
This was a really enjoyable pop album. A lot of pop nowadays sounds the exact same and I feel like this album doesn't follow a lot of typical pop tropes. Rina has a really good voice and I think that is a large part of why this project is so good. Not only that, but the production on a lot of these songs is really good. She also can write some really good hooks and catchy songs. Overall this is a really solid pop project and this project showcases why Rina Sawayama is one of the brightest pop ... read more
Polo G delivers a solid album here. While a lot of the production is one-dimensional, Polo G does a good job on this album. Polo dives into a lot of deep topics on this album as well. This tracklist is pretty consistent throughout and there is a mixture of some chill stuff and also some hype stuff like Go Stupid. I have to be honest though I don't really revisit this project all that often. This era of Polo G has been kind of forgotten in time. Overall, this album is good and showcases a lot of ... read more
This album has grown on me a lot. When I first heard this album I found a lot of the tracks boring, but revisiting it made me realize that this album was better than I thought. This album has a lot of enjoyable and fun tracks on it that I couldn't appreciate before. While I do think this tracklist is bloated and could be cut down, I can't deny that this album has some enjoyable songs. Overall, this is a solid collection of tracks from Future and has some fun bangers.
This is Charli's magnum opus in my opinion. This album has incredibly creative production and has a lot of cool experimental elements. Production also pulls from a lot of different genres like hyperpop, club music and electronic music. A lot of great writing on here as well, and some incredibly catchy songs and hooks. Charli also has great vocals on this album and her voice along with these instrumentals sounds really cool. There's not much I can say besides this is one of the most fun albums ... read more
For an album with love in the title, most of this album makes me feel nothing. Like none of the songs are blatantly bad, but a majority of the tracks seem to fall flat on this thing. This album doesn't really have any cohesiveness. I think this is really evident with the features because a majority of them don't make any fucking sense. The best example in my mind is Leave The Club with Lil Durk and GloRilla. Neither of them fit on this type of production AT ALL and it sounds so awkward. Another ... read more
Freddie Gibbs continues to prove that he is one of the greatest to ever do it. Alfredo is a collaboration between producer The Alchemist and rapper Freddie Gibbs. A lot of the beats on this thing are nocturnal and soulful and in combination with Freddie's potent flows it makes a really cool combination. This album is incredibly concise at 35 minutes long and every track is extremely high quality. The album kicks off with the smooth guitar riffs of 1985 and ends with the frantic All Glass (that ... read more
I’ve always been a big fan of Pop Smoke and unfortunately his life was taken away from him at a really young age. His first posthumous album Shoot for the Stars, Aim For The Moon was released a couple months after his death. I have to say for a posthumous album this was pretty damn good. You commonly see a lot of posthumous albums turn out to be pretty bad, but it’s clear that they had a lot of material to work with here. Pop also tries delivering some softer songs on here more than ... read more
I’m gonna be honest, Juice Wrld has really grown off of me. He doesn’t hit the same as he used too and throughout his discography he hasn’t really switched up his style. I’ve got a lot of fond memories with this album though and even though I don’t enjoy it as much now I won’t deny that Juice is a pretty good writer, especially for hooks. A lot of his lyrics can get repetitive after a while but he has a natural talent for writing some really good hooks. This ... read more
21 Savage has solidified himself as one of the best artists of this new generation. Savage Mode 2 is yet another collaboration between Metro Boomin and 21 and they absolutely killed it together once again. This is an amazing producer rapper duo and they work very well together. This project is a lot less dark then Savage Mode 1, but I think that’s a good thing. 21 Savage tries some different styles on this thing and proves that he can do more than just one style. There aren’t that ... read more
This is another fun little project by Midwxst. Midwxst continues to perfect his style on this thing and keeps proving why he’s so talented. I really liked some of the features on this thing as well, such as ericdoa on Decay. I really like the genre of hyperpop and I think Midwxst has developed his own unique style within the genre.
The creator of music, Jordan Carter aka Playboi Carti drops his long awaited album Whole Lotta Red. This is simply one of the most polarizing albums of all time. When this dropped everyone expected him to continue his Die Lit/Self Titled style and when he didn’t everyone went absolutely apeshit. This album is absolutely crazy. Carti well known for his more laid back style decides that he wants to become a vampire and releases some loud, abrasive ass shit. And guess what? It’s ... read more
I’ve heard a lot of good things about this album so I decided to check it out and hey it’s pretty good! Underscores combines a multitude of different genres on this album but it’s mostly a hyperpopish, punk popish sound. While I think some of the vocals could use some work, I think they did a solid job with this album. Their style on this album reminds me a lot of 100 gecs as well. Overall this is some good stuff and I’ll have to check out more of their stuff.
Midwxst is a really cool artist. While hyperpop has become really popular as of late I feel like he has developed his own lane and stands out amongst the crowd. There is some really cool production on this thing, especially on a song like Trying. Midwxst also has a really recognizable voice and vocal style as well. Overall, I think the future is really bright for him and this project shows why he’s definitely an artist to look out for.
While I do not think this project holds up to some of their best projects this was a really solid effort. Typically BROCKHAMPTON never has features on their projects but this one was an anomaly in their discography. There are some guests on this project and while some of them are forgettable, features like Danny Brown on BUZZCUT and JPEGMAFIA on CHAIN ON are great. While this project can be really fun at times it also has moments that are really emotional. The production on here is diverse and ... read more
This project was alright. I think Kenny Mason has a lot of potential and you can definitely see flashes of it on this project. Songs like A+ are excellent and incredibly catchy. Kenny Mason definitely knows how to make a catchy song but sometimes there are songs that fall flat. There’s definitely some forgettable songs on this project but overall I think this project showcases a lot of Kenny Masons potential.
Young Thug and YSL put together a large record and it’s pretty mid. I remember being really excited for this to drop and once it did I was pretty disappointed. First of all this album is extremely long and while there are some bangers there are just as many mid and bad songs. I’ll tell you what though when this record hits it hits hard. Songs like That Go!, Ski and Came and Saw are certified bangers and some of my favorite songs from 2021. However, this album drags on for a while ... read more
I didn’t even watch the anime, but I decided to tune in because flying lotus is an incredible producer. It was really cool that they chose Flying Lotus to do the soundtrack for Yasuke. Does this album have infinite replay value? No. But I can definitely appreciate it for what it is. As a soundtrack this is great and the production is really cool and judging by what the show looks like this music seems to fit pretty well.
I'm so glad I found these guys. Paris Texas is a duo consisting of Louie Pastel and Felix and BOY ANONYMOUS is their second EP (first EP isn't on streaming services). Paris Texas has developed their own unique sound, showcasing a variety of different styles on this album. There's experimental hip-hop influence, rock influence, west coast influence and so much more. Even though this project is only 8 tracks long and only runs for 21 minutes, they express so much potential in this short time. Not ... read more
J. Cole is highly regarded in the rap game at this point, and while I think that he is very talented it doesn't always translate to his albums. I really enjoyed this project when it came out, but it's grown off of me a lot. I get that J. Cole is supposed to be this wise figure in hip-hop but he honestly comes off corny as hell a lot. Not only that but this album really doesn't offer anything new that Cole has given us before. People say he sounds hungrier but the production is generic and the ... read more
