Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 4
85

EDIT (80->85): Hi everyone! It's me from the future who's now listened to almost every single Griselda project that I could find. Tana Talk 4 has slowly grown over me over time, enough for me to come back and bump up its score a little bit. At the time I wrote this review, I wasn't nearly as descriptive with my thoughts on albums as I am now. I'll keep it brief, but this album is an excellent throwback to the Tana Talk 3 days. It's such a great mix of those classic ... read more

On this album Charli dives into more of a mainstream sound, and it's alright. The thing that I really liked about Charli's music is that she loves to take experiments with her production and on CRASH there is a lot less experimenting than usual. There are still a lot of enjoyable catchy pop songs on this album and it's definitely not bad my any means. However, compared to her last three projects this doesn't even come close. On the bright side, this album is really consistent and there really ... read more

Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future
90

DENZEL DOES NOT MISS!!!! Denzel has proven himself to be one of the most consistent and talented rappers of this new generation. On Melt My Eyez, Denzel tries out a new style and absolutely kills it. This album can be very personal at times as Denzel dives into personal struggle and his motivations to keep moving forward. The production on this album is immaculate and people like Robert Glasper did wonders on this thing. This production also sounds a lot different compared to his other more ... read more

Vince Staples - RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART
72

I'll tell you what, Vince is really good at making accessible music. I'm not gonna lie, Big Fish Theory is one of my favorite albums of all time and I've been waiting for Vince to drop something experimental again for a while. While, RAMONA isn't that, its a solid album that has a nice vibe. Vince's style on this album makes me feel like I'm in California on the beach when I listen to some of these songs. This album is incredibly easy to listen to and I think almost anyone could enjoy ... read more

redveil - learn 2 swim
80

Redveil is one of the most promising young rappers right now. To think this kid is the same age as me making music like this is crazy. learn 2 swim was an enjoyable album with some creative production and solid performances from Redveil. He's got a smooth style that fuses jazz and soul production to create some beautiful ass instrumentals. Redveil has an incredibly bright future and it'll be cool to see what he'll do next.

Pusha T - It's Almost Dry
89

Pusha T has been one of my favorite rappers for a while now and after Daytona I was really excited to see what he would be dropping next. While It’s Almost Dry isn’t as concise and incredible as Daytona, this was another great album from Push. Half of this album was produced by Ye and the other half was produced by Pharrell. Both of them did an amazing job on production and some of the beats like Let The Smokers Shine The Coupes are actually insane. As usual Push is rapping his ass ... read more

Future - I NEVER LIKED YOU
75

I hate women and love lean! (guys this is a joke). Future makes his return with a solid crop of tracks. This album really has something for everyone, whether that be energetic tracks like Holy Ghost and 712PM or incredibly smooth tracks like Wait For U and Puffin On Zootiez. This is another solid project from Future and was a fun listen.

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
84

1,855 days. I can’t even describe how exciting it was to hear that Kendrick was dropping an album. It had been five years since he dropped his last project and the hype and anticipation was at an all time high. So how did it turn out? Pretty good. While I don’t think this album can stack up to the likes of DAMN, TPAB or GKMC, it was still a really solid project and one of the best of 2022. Kendrick is incredibly personal and self reflective on this album. So personal that it can ... read more

Boldy James & Real Bad Man - Killing Nothing
80

Gangsta Rap is quickly becoming one of my favorite sub genres of hip hop. Boldy James’s music is incredibly dark and grimy and really puts you in into a unique headspace. Real Bad Man killed the production on this thing as well. This album is cold-blooded and really enjoyable to listen too.

EDIT (75 -> 80): This album has continued to grow on me over time. Boldy's performances are so impressive on some of these tracks and some of the songs have just continued to get better and better. ... read more

WESTSIDE BOOGIE - More Black Superheroes
70

This was a cool album. I heard some good things about this album so I decided to check it out. Boogie did a good job on this album and I think he has a really unique voice. This album definitely makes me want to check out more of his stuff and it'll be interesting to see what he drops next.

Drake - Honestly, Nevermind
35

Drake tries house music and it doesn't go well. A large majority of the tracks on here are extremely boring and some of the vocals on this album sound like shit. The hook on Falling Back is a good example of some of the horrible singing Drake does on this album. A large majority of the tracks on here are extremely boring but tracks like Massive, Sticky and Jimmy Cooks (straight up just a rap track) are all solid tracks. Overall though, this album is pretty bad and besides a couple of tracks I ... read more

Lupe Fiasco - DRILL MUSIC IN ZION
80

I wasn’t really super familiar with Lupe before this, but this was a really impressive project. This project is filled with smooth production and great rapping by Lupe. MS. MURAL is one of the most lyrically dense hip hop songs I’ve ever heard. Overall, this is a great project and showcased why Lupe Fiasco is one of the most respected rappers ever.

Joey Bada$$ - 2000
80

As the sequel to 1999, this album had a lot of expectations to meet and for the most part it did. While it's definitely not as good as 1999, this album was really enjoyable and had a lot of memorable moments. Survivors Guilt is an incredible tribute to Capital Steez, except for that one sus bar (yall know which one I'm talking about). I enjoyed a lot of the production on this album as well and thought it sounded like more of a modern 1999 (if that makes any sense). The one rough patch on the ... read more

KALI - Maltman and Effie
70

I do not remember how tf I discovered this, but somehow I did. This was a cool project, and KALI is a talented vocalist. While this is nothing crazy, I think KALI has a lot of potential and could be someone to look out for in the future.

Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes
89

I should've visited this sooner. A lot of people labeled this as a one of the best projects from 2022, so I decided to check it out. Overall, this album is insanely consistent and very high quality. Danger Mouse fucking killed it on here and every beat on here is really captivating. Some of the features on here are amazing, like A$AP Rocky, RTJ, Conway and that amazing posthumous DOOM verse. Black Thought does an excellent job as usual and continues to submit his name as one of the best MC's to ... read more

$NOT - Ethereal
50

Ethereal is definitely a hip-hop album of all time. $not tries a variety of different styles on this thing and not a lot of them stick, but he does have a couple of bangers on this album. Notably, Doja with A$AP Rocky went pretty hard and was one of my favorite songs from 2022. However, this album is very forgettable and many of the tracks lack the quality of the best tracks.

JID - The Forever Story
95

JID finally did it, he released an incredible body of work. I've been a fan of him for a while and I enjoyed his first two LP's but I knew he could do even better. The Forever Story was the album where he finally realized his full potential. The entire project is laced with incredible rapping from JID, and you'll be blown away by how good he is at some points. Not only that, BUT HE CAN SING? Kody Blu 31 showcased JID singing for the first time in his discography and he sounds great! JID has a ... read more

midwxst - BACK IN ACTION 3.0
70

This was a solid release by Midwxst. This album has a lot of bangers and enjoyable tracks and this is typically what you can expect from Midwxst at this point.

Kenny Mason - RUFFS
75

Holy shit, Kenny Mason is hella underrated. After listening to Dance Now by JID I heard that Kenny Mason was dropping an album so I decided to check it out, and god damn this is solid. I really like the sound of this album and it's kind of like a rap/rock fusion at some points. Kenny Mason also has a pretty solid performance on this thing, and I thought the features were good as well. Shell was simply one of the best songs of 2022 and I'm really excited to hear what he does next.

Freddie Gibbs - $oul $old $eparately
85

I honestly feel like this album isn't as appreciated as it should be, because IT'S REALLY GOOD. This was one of the best drops from 2022 and I feel like it gets completely glossed over. This project is incredibly consistent and has excellent production by a variety of producers. Freddie also raps his ass off (like usual). There are a variety of different sounds on this album and I think they all work really well. The weak link on this album is Pain & Strife which doesn't sound the best ... read more
