Well, this is one of the most cold-blooded hip-hop projects I've ever heard. Sitting at only 7 tracks long with a 21 minute runtime, Daytona by Pusha T is a concise album with incredibly quality material. Pusha T is legitimately one of the greatest rappers of all time and hearing him on here just further solidifies that statement. I get it, he only raps about cocaine, but god damn he raps about cocaine in the coolest way possible! Pusha T also takes shots at Drake as well, further adding fuel ... read more
RELISTEN AND RE-REVIEW COMING SOON!
NEW Review (2024)
(70 -> 75): It was really nice coming back to this album after not listening to it for a while. I actually liked this album back when this album wasn't nearly as appreciated as it is now. Hell, the score on AOTY is not even a 70 yet, even though that will likely change soon. I think that most of us can agree that this is undoubtedly Rocky's worst album in his catalogue. TESTING is honestly a mess of an album, with contrasting ... read more
I swear to god there is something with 2018 and really short albums. A lot of the best albums in 2018 happen to be incredibly short. Whack World might just be the shortest fifteen track album ever. The album stands at a staggering 15 minutes long, THAT'S IT. This is because each song is only a minute long. It's really like an entire album of snippets, and even if the album feels incomplete it's still actually pretty good. Tierra Whack has a really infectious style that really pulls you in. I ... read more
Ye is extremely underrated in Kanye's catalogue. When people say that he hasn't made any good music past Life of Pablo, I really start to question if they actually listened to this album. Ye is connected to KSG in a certain way. KSG is an album really focussed on mental and health and exploring the psyche of Kanye and Kid Cudi. Ye is very similar to this, but a lot more centered on Kanye himself. This album really goes into Kanye's mind and how he feels about his mental health. He expresses his ... read more
KIDS SEE GHOSTS is simply one of my favorite albums of all time and one of the best albums I've ever heard. There is not a single thing that I dislike about this album, and it's everything I like about an album. Even at a concise 23 minutes in length, it makes a lasting impact on you. Kanye and Cudi really take you on an emotional rollercoaster through their minds on this album. Both are incredibly vulnerable on this album and this translates into some of the most beautiful tracks I've ever ... read more
What an absolutely incredible album by Denzel Curry. Up to 2018, he hadn't released a project this lyrically dense and impactful in his career. For me, this is the moment when Denzel truly separated himself from his peers to become one of the best new generation artists there is. TA13OO itself is a journey throughout Denzel's life and thoughts separated by three acts (LIGHT, GRAY and DARK). While I think the presentation of what this album means is a little shaky sometimes, I think for the most ... read more
Lord have mercy this is bad. Mori tries out a bunch of different styles on this album and none of them seem to work out. You can tell there was a lot of money put into this album, but it ends up being absolutely awful. Huge W is one of the songs of all time. It honestly feels like Mori isn't making music in terms of having a creative passion. A lot of the stuff on here is soulless and doesn't have much to offer.
Holy shit what a moment this was. ASTROWORLD had to be one of the most hyped albums of all time and this album pretty much took over the world for a while. A lot of people were disappointed with Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight and were hungry for Travis to drop another album on the same level as Rodeo. While I don't think Astroworld is as groundbreaking and incredible as Rodeo, it is pretty damn good. There were so many people that worked on this album. Mike Dean, Thundercat, Tame Impala, ... read more
Iridescence might just be BROCKHAMPTONS best. This album is definitely the most experimental the group has made thus far. There is such a variety of different soundscapes on this album and it all merges together to form a really good album. You can really see how they've taken all of the elements from the SATURATION trilogy and applied it to this album. There is an abundance of creativity on this album and so many cool ideas are executed very well. Like BROCKHAMPTONS previous records, they dive ... read more
This was a cool project from Vince. Vince once again delivers more west-coast vibes on this album like a lot of his other stuff. I like the radio-station takeover kind of theme that he has going on here as well. This album has a bunch of bangers on it, and is overall a feel-good kind of project to listen to. There isn't really a standout track on here, but the album remains consistent with a bunch of solid tracks.
I have to say, I really like IDK's style. He bring's a lot of charisma to each track he's on and he's really entertaining to listen too. IDK & FRIENDS :) was a cool EP with some enjoyable tracks. Each song on here is pretty cool, and and enjoyable to some extent. I have to say ONCE UPON A TIME (FREESTYLE) with Denzel Curry stands out amongst the other tracks as the standout song from the EP. That song absolutely slaps and I would recommend anyone to listen to it (it's basically the song ... read more
There's really not much to say besides this is just some Christmas music for the grinch movie by Tyler, The Creator. Like it's not bad, but it's really forgettable and this EP kind of just exists. Can't really say I return to this that much.
Anderson .Paak is HIM. Dude's voice, style and charisma absolutely SHINES in his music. Oxnard is no exception. This album is really good and incredibly well crafted. The production is groovy and Anderson kills it on each and every track. Not only that, but he brings a variety of guests which all do a really great job. It's insane to look at how stacked this feature list is with legendary hip-hop artists like Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Q-Tip and Pusha T. At this point, I don't think ... read more
JID is simply that guy. There is so much growth and improvement shown on this release. His rapping has improved, the beat selection has improved and the amount of different flows he can hit is ridiculous. The run from Off Deez to Workin Out is one of the best runs in his entire discography. There are so many catchy and memorable songs on here. JID is fun as hell to listen too, and he absolutely kills it on this album. While this project is really good, you know there is still room for ... read more
Y'know Ski Mask The Slump God is pretty cool. I don't think he's the greatest artist in the world but he really can make some fun music if he puts his mind to it. STOKELEY is kind of a mixed bag for me. You've got some absolute bangers on here like Nuketown, Foot Fungus, LA LA, Unbothered and Faucet Failure. But you also have a bunch of mediocre tracks that are pretty forgettable to be honest. As a whole project I don't think it's anything special, but you'll definitely pull some really fun ... read more
What a weird album. The songs on here almost feel like skits or interludes but somehow Earl kind of makes it work. I will not lie this album is hard to listen to at first and I don't think you're ever going to bump songs on this album individually. The whole album works as an experience, a deep-dive into Earl's mind. The beats on here are experimental and unsettling. You never really ever feel comfortable on this album because that how the album is supposed to make you feel. It can be hard to ... read more
This album is really indicative of 21 Savages growth and evolution as an artist. You've heard 21 on a lot of dark trap beats, but 21 goes a little out of his comfort zone on this project and I would say for the most part it works out pretty well. The song a lot was a HUGE moment for 21. It was so cool to see him being introspective and improving as a lyricist. Not only that but he rapped over a soul beat which is not something he really had ever done. 21 is a lot more introspective on this ... read more
I mean, this album is cool but it sounds similar to a lot of the other stuff he has released. This is the album that sits between Legends Never Die and Goodbye & Good Riddance. In my opinion it's probably the weakest out of these three. It's definitely not bad, but it doesn't really have things that make it stick out. I've said this before but Juice WRLD is a really good writer and there are definitely some really catchy songs on here like Make Believe, Empty, Maze, Robbery and a couple ... read more
ZelooperZ is honestly extremely slept on. I really didn't know much about him until after shuffling a random playlist on spotify and hearing Easter Sunday. After hearing Easter Sunday I decided to check out Dyn-o-mite. This was a cool album. ZelooperZ comes from the same vein as Earl Sweatshirt and their styles share a lot of similarities. However, I think ZelooperZ has a cool voice that distinguishes him from Earl. I also liked a lot of the production on here. The abstract hip-hop production ... read more
IGOR is simply incredible. It's a love story told across an entire album. It's been done before but the way Tyler did it here was special. There's limited explanation, but everything makes sense after you listen to the album in full. This album is also crafted with incredible production throughout and is a genre-bending experience. It's hard to even really call this a hip-hop album even though it contains a little bit of hip-hop elements. Tyler's use of voice filters to make him sound different ... read more
