The new album from Ear is good but not on par with their debut “The Most Dear And Future”.
There are definitely highlights on this album such as the opening songs Coil, Rumspringa, Ne Plus Ultra. But except for these songs the rest of the album is kinda reheating material from their debut. Even though I don't specifically love “Rumspringa” it still has some great moments and ideas that I think need to be more fleshed out.
It's incredible how amazing Fiona Apple's discography is on all fronts and “Tidal” is definitely not an exception. The warmest and just hands down of the most beautiful instrumental moments are on this album. Lyrically Fiona Apple has always been on another level but for this to be your debut album is insane. Her voice and her style has been fully formed since day one. Songs like Shadow boxer, The first taste and carrion are some of her best songs in her discography and ... read more
A pretty good one from Kim Petras. I loved how instrumentally dense and loud it was. I found myself enjoying a lot of the beats and drops more than maybe lyrically and vocally but for the most part Kim Peters' voice just stands out in this kind of production which makes the album stronger and therefore more enjoyable. But I will say a lot of the moments were carried by the beats rather than some other qualities of the album but for the most part an enjoyable listen.
Pretty amazing if you ask me. American Football’s “American Football” is filled with captivating electric guitar riffs accompanied with great vocals and great storytelling. You could complain about the lack of variety in connection to the instrumentals and over all the songs but I think it makes this album more enchanting and gives the album a kind of comforting atmosphere around it that makes me appreciate it even more. All and all a really cool listen I would definitely ... read more
Probably Danny Brown’s most impressive and dark albums to date. As the album goes on you can see a shift in the degraded instrumental and the flat out depressing lyrics that Danny Brown is so honest about. Everything after “Ain’t it funny” is just what makes this album that cultural phenomenon that it is with its distorted and atmospherically dark sound that the instrumentals and lyrics make. The first half of the album is more tame but “Really Doe” has just ... read more
Some pretty cool IDM songs from a newer artist for me. There's not much to comment on. Instrumentally It is pretty good, some moments are better then others but overall I enjoyed the glitchy and ambient atmosphere that the album is trying to create and I believe that it is successful on what it's trying to create.
Elliot Smith’s self titled album may not be his best instrumentally but l think lyrically it's definitely a stand out in his discography. It is easy to listen to but I feel the same way about “Either/Or” and just in general his music is very replayable and for obvious reasons. There’s something about his voice that makes it so expressive and clear to understand.
I genuinely don’t know how to explain this album. One take away from this album is that ‘Status update music” is probably going to end up being one of my fav Leroy albums. Jane Remover has always been such an innovative music personality but with the Leroy album they take it to another level with just bombastic instrumental and catchy song structures And this one just takes all of those qualities and enhances them and improves them.
This album showed me how much I appreciate jazz rap and how much I enjoy it.
“Magic, Alive!” is seriously one of the most colourful and exciting rap albums that i have heard in recent times. McKinley Dixon's voice and lyrics perfectly fit the jazzy glossy beats. Instrumentally this album just stands out from different jazz rap albums. It's vulnerable and fun at the same time which makes for an interesting and beautiful listen.
“BRASILIAN SKIES” has got to be one of the most amazing albums from the jazz-funk, city pop genres. Even in today's time it holds up and it definitely stands out. It sounds refreshing and it feels new. Instrumentally it stands out from the jazz albums I have heard because with time the songs expand and become more interesting. The samba touches on the album also really fit the overall theme and vibe of the songs and it's also a main reason why it stands out from other ... read more
This is Sufjan Stevens' masterpiece. I have never had this much fun while listening to an album . It's witty, it's fun, it's instrumentally perfect in every way. And I was completely surprised because I listened to “Carrie & Lowell “ before this and it was such a drastic switch up for me. Every instrumental on this album hits differently; it's so free and it perfectly fits Sufjan Stevens' voice. I just have too praise this cool as fucking concept ... read more
I have been following Cameron’s solo work for a bit now and I finally listened to the self-titled “My New Band Believe”. This album is quite different from Cameron's earlier work . It's kinda more Black country new road “Forever howlong” then the Black Midi stuff. It’s very dramatic and theatrical which is particularly why I liked the longer songs. The reason for that was that the longer songs had more time to build up to a theatrical drop. At ... read more
I bought the vinyl and realised that i have not reviewed nor rated this album. “Loveless” is My bloody valentine magnus opus of sorts. It’s noisy, blended in and at some points just confusing. That of course is why it is so beloved in the shoegaze community. It also has a dreamer side and you can especially hear the dreamer concept in the vocals which by the way are so far into the back that it feels like whispering. Well these elements of the album make me love it so not ... read more
Overall I enjoyed this album. Songs like CRANK, YES GODDD, OLD FLING$ shows how good the album is at its best. Some songs feel dry and kinda repetitive compared to others on the album. I really do love the energy that Slayyyter brings on the album. I love the shouty vocals especially on “CRANK”. The lyrics didn't really bother me but but this one is shakespeare level:
“She pick up, then we fuck, I get so gay off that tequila”
-Slayyyter
George Harrison's “All things must pass” is filled with love and soulful lyrics that offer the listener some good ass fucking music. George Harrison managed to show his individuality and that’s really hard especially after the disbandment of one of the most iconic groups that he was a part of . But what's more exciting is that the quality of the music did not go down. This album instrumentally is lush and effortless, which I think is kinda different from the ... read more
Tbh this is exactly what direction i wanted to hear for Jane remover well because of how the electric guitars were such a big part of “Revengesekeerz”. I would label this more like post-rock since it has that shoegaze element but it’s still quite a big difference in my opinion. On “Census Designated” we see Jane going full on berserk with big and lengthy build ups and with glitchy sound touches. For me it improves the one element of what I didn't like about ... read more
Never thought I would hear Woah Vicky mentioned on an album I like. The beats are amazing and unique to Slayr in my opinion, The replay value for me has been a surprise. It’s really witty and fun, not surprised about the mass appeal of this album and especially the “Bloodluxe” deluxe. The instrumental sometimes feel so out of place but they actually fit the song really well.
A very forward thinking album by Stereolab. Futuristic, catchy and vibey. Instrumentally stunning with strange but experimental moments. Impossible not to at least dance to some of the tracks on here genuinely. Vocally very on theme as well.
Such a boundary pushing jazz album goddamn. It’s peaceful but it has this experimental side to it that you don’t really see in jazz albums. I am talking vocally and instrumentally on “ The creator has a plan”. “Color” is definitely more peaceful and soft and ends with a big climax. Overall a must listen for people who like jazz.
“Arular” is my introduction to M.I.A. and I don't exactly know how to feel about it. The beats are interesting and unique, M.I.A lyrically and vocally is great, but as much as it’s fun and quirky and unique to M.I.A it lacks replay quality and some moments are better than other moments. Even with that I think I have to appreciate this album with the topics it talks about and overall the experience as a whole.
