Balmora - These Graven Halls
NR

I think my previous review was a bit of an immature and brash reaction to the news of what this band did. What Balmora did was absolutely wrong and they deserve to face punishment for it, but I don't think it is my job to virtue signal on the music review site. I still encourage others to skip this album but I was a little parasocial in my response to the allegations and I believe that I was too toxic. If you want other bands similar to Balmora, Before I Depart and A Mourning Star are ... read more

Converge - Hum of Hurt

Album rips. Simple as.
Surprisingly, I think I may enjoy Hum of Hurt over Converge's other 2026 release, Love Is Not Enough. While I massively preferred the singles from the latter album, Hum of Hurt has a very consistent atmosphere throughout the songs, and the sludge metal inspired riffs stand out to me a little more than the average song from LINE. I Won't Let You Go is one of my favorite Converge songs, so it was awesome to hear a new version of it incorporated into this ... read more

August Burns Red - Season of Surrender

THERE'S NO LIMIT TO THE GLAZE!
This is a beautiful album. I have a lot to say about it but I wanna give it more listens before actually writing a review. It could be recency bias, but this is probably the best thing from this band since Found In Far Away Places, which is one of my favorite albums ever made.

Lungburn - Shell Shock
85

Very dissonant chugs that syncopate with the vocals in an incredibly satisfying way with a pretty damn crazy guitar tone. The vocals towards the end also get pretty raw, something about when I can hear metal or hardcore vocalists taking breaths between screams triggers the caveman side of my brain.

Lungburn - Teach:

I love seeing other bands pay tribute to my fav of all time, and this band did a pretty decent job! There are some small differences from the original track that make this worth giving a listen if you are a fan of The Chariot. This single encouraged me to check out some of the other work from this band, and I think their original songs are even better! The band has a distinct style from The Chariot that holds up better in their original songs in my opinion. I will certainly be keeping an ... read more

Mastodon - Your Ghost Again

RIP Brent Hinds
I was worried how Mastodon would carry on without him but they've proven that while he was an integral part of the group, they can manage to carry on and write some awesome metal.

KILL KARL - DO YOU EVEN FUCKING LIFT BRO?
70

Kill Karl is my burger king😍

Boundaries - Skies cast amber black

This song is my favorite of the singles for the new album so far, while my favorite Boundaries music is typically stuff with more melodic riffs, the sheer aggression this song brings is second to none, right up there with My Body Is A Cage and Like Petals From A Stem.

Boundaries - Only endless
65

I love this band but this song is a bit of a miss for me. It is well written but it doesn't really have any of the aspects I love about Boundaries. All of the singles so far have lacked the sick melodic riffs of their older material but the previous two made up for that through their sheer anger and energy while this song lacks both imo. I'm sure it will be good in the context of the rest of the album but I'm probably not gonna return to this song specifically on its own.

Five Finger Death Punch - Eye of The Storm
10

I do not know why I bothered listening to this but it's straight ass. If I didn't know FFDP were a real band I would have thought this song was ai generated, and funnily enough that slop of a cover is!

Stress Positions - Human Zoo
80

The vocalist sounds like the animatronics in Five Nights At Freddy's when they jumpscare you and it's fucking awesome

Your Own Knife - Repent, The End Is Extremely Fucking Nigh
90

There is a very specific niche that this band fulfills that I think a lot of people would fw if they heard it. It's like a mix of Converge and La Dispute with a hint of Silent Planet in the vocals. If that sounds interesting to you you should definitely give this group a shot, they've got really cool stuff. They are a local band and they put on a really sick show.

Wounded Touch - They Promised Eden (Vol. 1)
97

I am once again going to compare this band to Blood Has Been Shed, because they are the only group that fills the void left by that band for me. Wounded Touch are very overlooked online, they consistently put out great stuff and have evolved in interesting ways since their 2022 release "Americanvexity." Metalcore/hardcore/mathcore are in a new golden age right now through all of these up and coming bands, and I believe I will look back at this era of music very fondly in the future. ... read more

Motionless in White - Playing God

This was a solid song. Corey Taylor brings lots of energy to the table and the lyrics are much better at criticising critics than most metalcore songs are(although there are still a couple cringey lines.) The clean vocals definitely are not my thing still though, they detract from the rest of the song imo. I'm not a Motionless in White fan, but this album seems like it's going to be relatively enjoyable.

Cancer Bats - Stay Stuck
90

Jacob Bannon's production really adds a new layer of grit to Cancer Bats' signature southern hardcore style. This song is a very strong lead single from a band deep into their career.

Wounded Touch - A Weapon In God's Country (feat. Jack Murray)
98

The second half of this song scratches an itch for me that no other band aside from Blood Has Been Shed does. I enjoyed their last album a lot, but if this ep is as strong as this single then it will be something really special.

Godseyes - An Old Song

Goatseyes are back with more peak
You should listen to this

August Burns Red - Sonic Salvation

I too love metalcore :)

Ennaria - Monstarrr

"I'm so quirky LOL!!🤪🤪🤪"

Balmora - Ophelia

Balmora reminds me of early Darkest Hour in the best possible way. Memorable melodeath riffs with sick hardcore breakdowns and energy.

"You can just explain why you don't like it without trying to undermine everyone who does. Just because it isn't as good as Jane Doe doesn't make everyone who loves the album a fake metal fan who gets their taste from Fantano. Personally I think this a great blend of their rawer mathier stuff and more atmospheric sludge metal tracks. I Won't Let You Go is one of my favorite Converge tracks because imo it has one of their most memorable riffs and I enjoyed the sludgey progression of other tracks such as Detonator. You don't have to like the album but the way you are talking in this review is just as pretentious as the hipsters you claim to hate."

"Glad you enjoyed this. People can say what they want about it being "another abr album" but if I go to a steakhouse I want a quality steak not something else to eat you get me. ABR have a distinct sound and I'm happy to hear more from them whenever they put something out, this may be a top 3 record from them."

"@HomeSession3 I think there is a solid chance you enjoy it since you gave Phantom Anthem an 80. The melodic riffs are very reminiscint of that era of the band but executed a little better imo. It's definitely better than Guardians or Death Below at the very least, but to be fair I'm very biased towards this band in particular lmao."

"I liked the song but yeah I miss the melodic riffs. Death Is Little More felt like an evolution on August Burns Red and Misery Signals while this feels more like what the rest of the metalcore scene is doing. I think they write good angry shit though so I'm ok with it. Plus I'll take it over the recent Dying Wish any day tbh."
